Is this a good laptop for video editing?

I want a decent laptop for editing videos.

nope, graphic card, RAM and processor suck. You're not going to get a video editing laptop for under $800 or so.

with a desktop you might get away with $500 (w/o screen).

Important for a video editing computer:
-graphic card: try at least 1GB of v ram. if not 512mb might be ok.
-RAM: atleast 4GB
-processor: for a laptop try for at least an i5. you could also try amd equivelent (i'm not familiar with them)

Is hp dm4-1162us a good laptop for video editing?

Q. As everybody knows white friday...oh I mean black friday is coming and I am planning to try my luck and see if I could buy a hp dm4-1162us from office depot. Now I dont know how good is this laptop for video editing because the the video graph is a Intel HD Graphics with up to 1696MB shared memory. Please if somebody could give me some advice I would totally appreciate. Thank you.
By the way my budget is pretty limited and that is why I can't afford a better laptop; however if somebody knows a better laptop around $600 please let me know. I know the mac are the best but I can't even dream for one. This hp dm4 is going cost around $550.

well, HP dm4-1162us has a great deal to bought in a price of $549.99. I bought this laptop today (Black Friday). It has great processor, i5 and has turbo boost technology. As what I had researched on, this laptop is very ideal for students and pretty decent. However, if you will go to the link below (review of this laptop) you'll notice that this is not really intended for multimedia purposes. But this laptop is great for everyday usage. There are more to look in Best Buy but I'm not exactly if they have good laptop for multimedia purposes with the budget you have.

I did struggle to look for great laptops with a reasonable price too. In my opinion, if you're not in rush to get a new laptop, why don't you wait for awhile? There is still upcoming holidays next month and for sure there are great deals again. But I think, all over HP dm4-1162us is nice.

It has to be a laptop that cost 570pounds (could be a little bit higher)The laptop has to have 6 or 8 gb ram, intel core i5 or higher, 1.5 or 2gb graphics card,15.6"(preferable) or 17" screen.
Remember it has to be a good laptop for video editing and avalible in northern Ireland to buy.

You probably won't get something suitable for the price you want, unless you get it second hand. Look into possibly a second hand Toshiba Satellite, or something similar. However, you'll need a fairly high end model to get what you need. For something that's seriously good, expect to pay more than your budget; my 2 computers I use for editing were over £1000 each, and I still had to upgrade RAM to something more powerful.

I am going to college in the fall, so I am in need of a good laptop. According to my parents, it is inevitable that I will be getting a PC around $1,000-1,500. I would prefer HP with Windows 7.

Anyways, I want a laptop that would not only run games well, but also run video editing software well. I want to play games like "Minecraft" and other Steam games on high settings without much lagging. I am going to get Adobe Premeire Pro for video editing.

I now that I need a good dedicated graphics card (ex: NVIDIA) for the games, but that's about it. So, what specifications do I need to look for in a good video gaming and video editing laptop?

@TheTurtleGuy: I'd like to have Alienware, but their laptops are WAY too expensive. And like I said, my parents can only give me a laptop around $1,000 to $1,500. Thanks for your answer, though.

Elements of both a good gaming and video editing laptop are quad core cpu, a decent amount of ram (8gb or 16gb recommended), a high end gpu (depending on resolution).

CPU - i7 intel (the mobile i5 cpus are dual core cpus with 2 additional threads)

GPU -
1366x768 resolution max settings - Radeon HD 7850m or Geforce GTX 660m or better (30-40fps+)

1920x1080 max settings - Radeon HD 7970 or Geforce GTX 680m or better (25+fps)

EDIT: Geforce GTX 650m is also good for 1366x768 if you don't mind scaling back some settings like antaliasing or play at 1080p and cut back on antialiasing and some details.

Hello Everyone! I am looking for a laptop that like I said can game with ease, not much lag, but it doesn't have to be able to handle like the best graphics. I just bought a $2200 gaming PC, so I don't feel like spending all that much on a laptop, plus I need something portable for school that I can carry around easily. About $800 at most.

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
I am thinking 13-15" maybe 17" if it is a good deal, because sometimes I do like larger laptops. I would really like it to be thinner, I don't want it to be a tank.

3. What screen resolution do you want?
As good as possible with my budget. HD is preferred, but not needed.

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Portable is preferred, nothing massive! I would like it to be thin!

5. How much battery life do you need?
About 3-4 hours would be great, more even better!

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
I want to be able to play Starcraft II, World of Warcraft, Runescape (on High of course not very taxing), Borderlands (High), Minecraft (Normal distance) and other games to come probably. When it comes to Starcraft and WoW I would like high graphics of course but it isn't needed.

Are you assuming that there is only one Intel Core i5 processor? Because there are several.

But you are referencing whether or not a Core i5 processor will be an improvement over your current computer.

This fails because you have provided no frame of reference. We would need to know your old computer specifications, and we would need a specific Core i5 processor to compare to your old CPU.

I'm currently looking at budget laptops for college. I'm considering the Lenovo Z580 line of laptops at the moment and I'm conflicted on which is a better buy: an Intel Core i7-3520M 2.9GHz with Intel HD 4000 or an Intel Core i5 3210M 2.50GHz with an nVidia GT 635M graphics card. I am planning to do some casual gaming on the machine (League of Legends, Minecraft, etc) as well as use it for video editing and music making.
The video card has 1 GB of dedicated video memory.
Also, they're around the same price, give or take 10 or so dollars.

For gaming, go for the better video card (635M). Most games use only one core, so multi core does not help gaming as much as better video cards. Make sure the 635m has dedicated video ram, not shared system ram... (otherwise they will be about the same...)
