Is an Intel HD Graphics card good for video editing and graphic design?

I'm purchasing a laptop for school which has an Intel HD graphics card, and I'll mainly be doing video editing and graphic design (using software such as Final Cut and Adobe CS5 programs). I know Intel HD is not the best graphics card out there, but will it fulfill the job in a satisfactory way?

Yes go for gaming notebooks such as Asus G74, Alienware M17X or something with GTX NVIDIA graphics/69xx, 68xx AMD graphics and Core i7-2xxx CPU.

what laptop would be good for graphics design that isnt a mac or anything apple related?

Im going into 3D graphic and video editing and I want a laptop that will be able to work well with animation and movement all together with out lag. However i have a budget of $1000. I know macs are good for artist/creativity related stuff but i really hate mac's.

You can buy an Acer or an IBM Thinkpad. My IBM Thinkpad works REALLY fast and operates on Windows Vista. I have Cinema 4D, After Effects, Photoshop, and Sony Vegas installed since I'm in the designing business :P.

All the software that I use for designing costs cash though, but I'm sure you can download them free somewhere.

What portable laptop would you recommend for school use?

I am graphic design student, so my main use for this is mostly adobe CS6; and I also do a bit of video editing.


I am leaning towards purchasing an ultrabook, more specifically, the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon.


Any other laptops I should consider purchasing?
I have considered Macbooks, but I figure,I can purchase a windows laptop with the same specs for a little cheaper.

You really can't go wrong with Macs for design. If you are absolutely bent on going with a Windows laptop, get something with an i7 Intel chip, third generation. The Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon looks like it will work. But, I got my macbook for much less than what Carbon is retailing for.
