Answer
Absolutely! In fact I would say this is a bit over the top. What I advise those who are in the market for a no frills laptop is to get a common 14" or 15" Intel Core i3 or i5 system with three or four gigabytes of RAM and an integrated video chipset. These run around $330 at Best Buy and will do everything from the typical web browsing and internet to HD video and lightweight video editing and Photoshop work. In this case the system you're looking at has one and a half to two times the common about of memory, twice the typical hard drive space and a dedicated video chipset, so yes, you should be good!

I have a friend who has a Mac laptop and it has iMovie on it. I've used her laptop to edit videos before and I really like the features and simplicity. Unfortunately, all I own are a PC laptop and a PC desktop. If you know of a way to make iMovie compatible or of a program that makes it similar based on the above criteria, please help me out!

Thanks :-)

Answer
a really simple one that comes with windows is windows movie maker, or if you want something a bit more legit and free, see this: http://www.akascope.com/2011/07/15/free-video-editing-software/
and if you want to torrent something I reccomend adobe premier pro or sony vegas(you can get free 30 day trials for both of these)

Used MacBook or New PC Laptop?

Chandler Z

Ok, I am currently a sophomore in high school and I am looking for a new laptop. I have found that a new Windows laptop and a 2011(I think) series MacBook are around the same price. Which is better? I will not be gaming on PC, and I will probably use it for essays, web browsing, and maybe some video editing. Which is better?

Answer
Well, it all depends on specs and operating system. The mac is flashier, however Apple is notorious for dropping support about 4-5 years after production of the computer, while Windows machines can push through more years without issues. In terms of video editing, it's all on the specs and the software you want to use. If you're using Adobe Premiere Pro, both platforms work. iMovie: Mac; Sony Vega: Windows, and so forth. I would personally go with the Windows laptop, as it will most likely last longer (and if they're the same price, the Windows laptop is most likely more powerful)

What is a good video editing software?

Michael

i am looking into a new editing system primarily to edit DVDs on, now my laptop is a 2011 Toshiba C655-S5122 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM Intel Core i3 M 380 @ 2.53GHz. my budget is under $100, i need something powerful and that renders pretty fast, and i would like it to burn after rendering. i have tried multiple programs, currently using AVS VideoEditor witch is glitched and freezes up constantly.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
~MC

Answer
Well it's going to be hard to find a good one for under $100. I'm do professional video editing and they can get a little pricey.

I would recommend look a Corel video studio software. It works very good and there are different versions and also Sony Vegas.

Corel editing software if definitely my favorite on the lower end editing software.

Now if you want to go professional you could look into Adobe Premiere. There are some older versions out there on ebay and places like that where you can buy it used or cheap. Just make sure you are getting a software code and not just the installation disks. I learned to use Adobe Premiere CS5 version. CS6 is out now but you can the older version CS4 pretty cheap sometimes. I wouldn't go any lower then Adobe CS4.

Feel free to email me if you have any more questions you need help with
Hope this helps!
