Sony Vaio or Dell Laptop?

Which brand is better?
The majority of my usage will be the itunes, internet, photos, editing videos, web cam, etc.
Nothing to extreme but which one do you think i will be better off with?
Please tell me what you think and at least a description and if you own either one what do you like about it. I really want to get my moneys worth. Thank you.

sony vaio! i'm using it right now. sony vaio is yours money's worth 'cause all those things u said you want is here already...dell kinda gets old fast i've used dell before and one day suddenly it crashes down it was like 3 years old. after that i bought a sony vaio and it's way Better than dell promise!

I found this laptop for around £500, and before i go any further, i would like to know if this is worth buying.

d Intel® HD Graphics 3000 < in that laptop makes it a horible Video editing laptop.

Look for ATi or Nvidia as the graphics controller, when you find something you like post another question.

Best Laptop For Video Editing?

I'm not a Mac user, and I'd like to continue using Sony Vegas Pro, with Windows XP.
My laptop is older however, so when I try to preview videos, it's slow and choppy since I have an HD camcorder.

What are some recommendations for laptops?
What type of processor, how many ghz, 5400 rpm or 7200, what brand, how big of ram, how much memory?

I'm a comp wiz, but I haven't had much experience with HD cams.
I just want the video to run smoothly, so I can edit properly.

SONY VAIO and IBM thinkpads are best for Input -Output peripheral transfer data range .
320 gb-7200 rpm with atleast 4GB of ram and 64-bit OS will definitely pull up u outta these kinda probs ... U can also increase ur RAM if u want to make it much faster . By increasing ur RAM , u can use the RAM as caching purposes by using software like EBOOSTR or RAMDISK on the basis of the fact that RAMS are much faster than pendrives and hardisks and can support a very high data storage speed and ya must buy it with Graphics Card coz graphic card includes its on supersonic memory and processor (256mb -512 mb is ok).
I recommended 64-bit OS coz these OS are only capable to use a LARGE RAM for ram 3GB above .
U ve discussed above about HD cams .. so Graphics card in playing such HD videos will help u alot as i ve already said above . U ll able to encode and decode the multiple videos at the same time with a high spedd and great performance , with troubleshoot ;)


here are some specs

Processor T6400 or T7700 or T8x00(intel) / TL-60 and above (AMD)
Graphics card with DEDICATED 256mb RAM atleast(not shared but dedicated)
250 or 320 GB ,7200rpm disk
4gb -6GB RAM and windows 64-bit on one partition and 32-bit on other partition(an option to boot from 2 windows will be asked while booting)

Simply go for FULLY LOADED laptop of SONY VAIO or IBM thinkpad with these CONFIG . u ll get everything in these in a very reasonable and affordable price .

Laptop Sony Vaio or HP DV6, for School and Video Editing, Podcasting?

I have a friend who will sell me one of his extra laptops. He has two. Both have had very little use, and were bought in the past year. I would like to make the best option. Both are priced at 550$. I will be using this laptop for general use, audio editing, podcasting, video editing, and as an HDMI out to my television. I do not play games on my laptop. The laptops and specs are below.

1. A Sony Vaio. 8 Gig ram. 16.5 inch screen. Intel I7 processor. 250 Gig hybrid hard drive. i think its the first or second generation I7 processor. definitely not the third. Sati bridge, not Ivy. HDMI out. Firewire in. Sata In. I like it because of the big screen, the sony name, and the firewire in, though all new camcorders no longer use it.

2. An HP Pavillion DV6 with a 15.6 inch screen, 8 gig ram, AMD A8 processor, 750 Gig hard drive, No firewire in, but has 2 USB 3.0 ports. No sata in. Beats audio.

They are very comparable machines. The HP is a little less clunky. The Sony has a bigger screen. Both have quad-cores, both have 8 gigs of ram. The extra hard drive space is of little concern because I have a spare computer with a big hard drive as well as a 1 TB external. I just want to make the best choice for what I intend to do with it. Both were custom built by Sony or HP and shipped to his house, so the model numbers are somewhat irrelevant. Comparable machines with reviews online tend to have 4 star reviews. And the windows experience rating on both machines are very close too.

They are both good computers.

With the dv6 you get a more harddrive in addition to the 1tb external drive. The processor is good and finally the gpu will be a nice choice.

With the Sony Vaio, I am sure the processor is good . The harddrive leaves alot to be disired, but with external drive is should be plenty.

Both are good for what you want to do, however with the dv6 you will be able more that more computer assumimg that the sony is a hd 3000 or 4000 graphics. Now if the sony vaio has the better gpu that would be the better choice.

If it were me, I would look at the overall specs of each computer and pick the one with the best specs overall. This includes a the highest gpu.

How do I put digital camera videos onto my laptop?

I have a Samsung MiniDV Digital Camera. My laptop is a Sony Vaio. I took some videos from my horse show today, and I want to put the videos onto my laptop. How do I do this please!
My camera doesn't have a USB port.. which is ridiculous... but yeah.

You'll need to capture the video via firewire - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. I don't know which laptop you've got, so make sure you make the right choice between PCMCIA and Express cards - they're not interchangeable.

You'll also need a firewire cable. Most firewire cards use a 6 pin port, but Sony laptops usually have a 4 pin firewire port if they've got one at all. All MiniDV camcorders have a 4 pin port, so the cable will need to be either 4 pin to 4 pin or 4 pin to 6 pin.

Once everything's connected you can capture and edit the video with Windows Movie Maker (should already be on your PC).

what are the system requirements that needs to be check upon purchasing one. I love gaming and Im taking a course on graphic designing.
alienware is a good one but I dont like the bulkiness of it.

I can only comment on what to look for to run games as I don't use Photo Shop.

In general, you will want the best CPU you can find. Go for at least an Intel i5, i7 is preferable if you can afford it (they cost much more than i5 chips.) I'm less familiar with modern AMD mobile chips, but from the tech specs I can find it appears than any of the current Phenom II mobile CPU's should get the job done.

Look for a laptop with a video card, NOT integrated graphics. If you buy an Intel-powered laptop, this means it will likely have an NVidia card. For AMD, look for an ATI card. As for certain models, I would look for a GeForce 260M/Radeon 5xxx Mobile series or better.

The minimum RAM you will want is 4gb, though more is always better.

Most laptops with the hardware I've listed above will have a screen with a maximum resolution of 1900x1200 anyway, but it's something to look for.

Since you are going to be doing photo editing as well, I would look for something with a good-sized hard drive. At a minimum I would say 400gb.

How can I transfer videos from my video camera?

I have a "Sony Handycam CCD-TR517" and of course, it's analog...
I have old videos in 8 millimeter cassettes and well. i want to transfer them to my laptop and then burn them to a CD, i have a Sony Vaio laptop... so i have no idea how the analog video cameras connect to the compu. Do i need a software or just a wire...? what the hell do i need, hahahahaha. PLEASE HELP ME AND EXPLAIN IT STEP BY STEP... THANX!

The Sony CCD-TR517 is a Video8 analog camcorder. You know this.

You will need the AV cable that came with the camcorder...

If your computer has a Firewire/i.LINK/DV/IEEE1304 port, then you will want to get an "analog/digital converter" like the Canopus ADVC55 or ADVC110.

If your computer has no firewire port and no way to add one, then you are stuck with the USB based A/D converters from Pinnacle (Dazzle) or Roxio - among many others.

Plug the Camcorder's AV cable into the camcorder and the A/D converter.

Plug the A/D converter into the computer.

Put the camcorder in Play mode.

Launch the video editing application or import utility.

Press play on the camcorder.

Import the video.

i am thinking about getting a sony vaio laptop. i want a good movie maker program that is similuar to the mac one but not as expensive. is this a good laptop? if not what is the best laptop for my needS?

I already gave up using movie maker which is a trash. it is too basic to make any functional slideshow and always make my work lose!
i have used a few other video editing programs and the easiest one has been
Photo MovieTheater. Very easy to use with professional features and
same sort of layout as Movie Maker however a lot more powerful.

If you are looking for special effects such as light sabers, lasers,
running on roof tops then you will need Adobe After Effects very good
program that can produce some genuine looking film effects however does take some learning and cost a lot
