Answer
What ever you do STAY WELL AWAY FROM WINDOWS 8 all the experts are recommending stay away from it,

Get a Dell and have them Install Linux Ubuntu on it read on, People wast a lot of time and money. when they buy software and work with windows, it just don't work, (speaking from my own bad experience) I am going to point you in the right direction.

First i'm going to tell you that Disney, Hollywood and Sony movie studios don't use windows or windows software for their movie production, every block buster movie you have ever seen was produced and developed using Linux You will understand what Free Open Source Software means after you use it,

Here are several Free Linux operating systems and Video, Audio, 3D Animated, Photo Editing software packages, check them out these will run on old computers with 512 megabytes of ram

What is a fantastic permanently free video editor?

Kat

I already have Windows Movie Maker and my laptop is a Windows 8. It's good but the editing video lags and the video effects aren't what I'm looking for. I mostly just want one certain video effect, which is where you can show one video full screen and a separate video in a little square in a corner. (Such as PewDiePie, SwiftKarateChop, Smosh, etc.) I've looked and can't find any. Thanks! Any questions, just ask!

Answer
You want to do "split screen" or "picture in picture" video editing. These two free video editors can easily do such. The videos show how:

FileLab

VSDC

with VSDC you can do additional special effects on the inserted video. Here's an example, watch the movement and sizing effects as each clip flies by:

All are Pre-Ovned BTW
So the first one is an Acer Aspire S3 with a Core i7, Intel HD graphics, 13 inch display, 20Gb SSD+500GB HDD W7 along with couple of programs (Microsoft Office 2010 Professional, Magix Web Designer 7 Premiuim, Magix Music Maker MX)
The other one is an Hp 15-B109EO Ultrabook Core i5, GT 630M (2GB), 32GB SSD+750GB HDD, W8
Then the last one is a mid 2012 13 inch macbook air.
I will be using it for college, mainly video editing, along with music and video editing. People say that Macs are the best for media edting, is that true? But which one suits my need the best? I'm swifting towards the HP, because of the powerful hardware, but which one should I choose?

Answer
Macs are better at media, mainly because of the OS and applications developed for them. However, the intel integrated graphics performance in the macbook air will be much inferior to the graphics of the HP. If you go with windows, I should choose the HP over the Acer.
The plus of the mac is that it will come preinstalled with good basic audio and video editors, (garageband and iMovie) and final cut is a good upgrade from that if you want to take the editing further. You may find rendering and things to be a little slow on the macbook air though :/

Windows is less media based, not really and decent programs preinstalled (windows movie maker sucks) But things like premier elements (adobe video editor) are good editors to buy if you do go with windows! the rendering will be quicker!

What video-editing software is good for my laptop?

Puncher

My laptop resources:

4 GB memory (might upgrade to 8 GB)
half of a terabyte hard drive (500 GB)
Processor: AMD E-300 APU, HD graphics 1.30 GHz - 6310 graphics

Right now I am using Windows Movie Maker, but I need something better. Please help. 10 pts to the best answer!

Answer
How about three very good freeware video editor programs, Freemake, FileLab, or VSDC? Each is safe, fully functioning, no watermarks, will not ask for money, and are recent releases that are HD capable.

They are listed in order of increasing capabilities. Freemake provides merging of video clips, and simple editing such as cutting and splicing. It will also automatically upload your video to YouTube if desired. It is also capable of converting your video to just about any video format in existence. FileLab has much more features, such as color correction, title editor, and special effects. VSDC is an advanced editor, capable of effects such as green screen editing. The following link has more info, but make sure to also view other articles on this site, as they outline other capabilities of these three programs.:
