Windows Movie Maker is constantly crashing, on both of my computers! (an older XP desktop and brand new windows 7 laptop)

I'll pay good money for a video editing software that works.

as a side note:
Is the fact my camera records in .AVI a possibility for the unstableness?

Answer
for me it's Ezvid - very easy to use, simple and yet can be a best alternativeTo paid and expensive software.

Ezvid is totally FREE of use with no registration required for download. Download Ezvid here http://www.ezvid.com/

So I have been looking around forever at different laptops and comparing prices. However, every website/forum I have looked at has suggested different ones so I'm confused as to what to buy. What I really want to know is what laptop I should buy for video editing. This is for Christmas when I have saved enough money. I am thinking of starting a youtube channel so I want to know what would be the best laptop (preferably under £600) to do this. I have been looking at an acer e1 series which boasts an i7 processor, 6gb ram, 500gb hdd and windows 8. The other is an hp envy m6 which has amd a8 elite quad core with 8gb ram, 1tb hdd and beats audio. Can someone please tell me if these laptops are good for video editing and if not which ones are? And also what to look for in a laptop for video editing i.e. RAM, graphics, processor speed etc.? Thank you it will be very much obliged :)

Answer
The laptops you have listed above are more than capable of editing 1080p videos.

For your optimum baseline specs:
- 3rd generation full voltage Core i5 OR an ultraportable ULV Core i7 processor (or an AMD equivalent)*
- 4 GB RAM
- 500 GB drive, or larger
- nVidia or ATI discrette graphics card (optional but recommended)

*almost all 35 watt Core i5 CPUs have a clockspeed above 2 GHz. But if your planning to buy an ultra-portable, it is best to opt for whatever 3rd or 4th gen Core i7 CPU they have to offer.

The best window laptop for video editing?

LenaH

I'm looking for a window laptop that is compatible for video editing. It doesn't have to be portable because i'll be using the laptop mostly at home. Right now i use Mac OS X (iMovie) and i want the Sony Vegas program, which means i need to get a window laptop. So do you know any laptop that is compatible for video editing?

P.S Hopefully the maximum price is $1000.

Answer
I dont recommend a laptop for video editing because sometimes the rendering can take a long time and overheat your laptop. Laptops arent really designed for video editing or gaming.

You should get a desktop PC with a Quad processor and good video card and RAM. You can get a nice one for $600-$700. and unlike a laptop, you can expand the desktop and upgrade as much as you want.

I am going to college in the fall, so I am in need of a good laptop. According to my parents, it is inevitable that I will be getting a PC around $1,000-1,500. I would prefer HP with Windows 7.

Anyways, I want a laptop that would not only run games well, but also run video editing software well. I want to play games like "Minecraft" and other Steam games on high settings without much lagging. I am going to get Adobe Premeire Pro for video editing.

I now that I need a good dedicated graphics card (ex: NVIDIA) for the games, but that's about it. So, what specifications do I need to look for in a good video gaming and video editing laptop?

Thanks!
@TheTurtleGuy: I'd like to have Alienware, but their laptops are WAY too expensive. And like I said, my parents can only give me a laptop around $1,000 to $1,500. Thanks for your answer, though.

Answer
Elements of both a good gaming and video editing laptop are quad core cpu, a decent amount of ram (8gb or 16gb recommended), a high end gpu (depending on resolution).

CPU - i7 intel (the mobile i5 cpus are dual core cpus with 2 additional threads)

GPU -
1366x768 resolution max settings - Radeon HD 7850m or Geforce GTX 660m or better (30-40fps+)

1920x1080 max settings - Radeon HD 7970 or Geforce GTX 680m or better (25+fps)

EDIT: Geforce GTX 650m is also good for 1366x768 if you don't mind scaling back some settings like antaliasing or play at 1080p and cut back on antialiasing and some details.

Use this chart to help you pick.

Highlight the games you want to play and go from there.

-------------------------

Btw, although Alienware is solid its very overpriced.

Edit: The dell costs $400 more than the cyberpc similar specs.

Heres a laptop that costs almost the same as Alienware but has a better gpu
(http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Xplorer_X6-9500_Gaming_Notebook/)

You can buy more ram or an ssd seperately and install it yourself.

What are some good video editing programs for Windows Vista?

Barbie00

I have windows moviemaker pre-installed on my laptop. I want to know some good video editing programs that I can use instead. Thanks!

Answer
the best:
get a mac and install Final Cut Studio and have Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator ready. up to $1200 for the program.

next best:
Adobe Premiere CS5 + if you have any money left over add Adobe After Effects $700

there's also Adobe Premiere Elements Plus for those with limited budgets. but check to make sure you have the System Requirements met first.
