Macbook pro vs macbook air 2013?

Q. I was wondering whether the macbook pro 13 inch(non retina) is a good idea or the macbook air 13 inch latest model. I would use it mostly for email, word processing, videos, and mostly just web surfing. THe macbook air seems better, but i like the power and larger hard drive on the pro. Im not sure which to buy?

Answer
Macbooks are overpriced laptops that dont do anything more than a regular laptop they cant really even play games that well or edit too well so i found a really great laptop that does all of that stuff as well as a little gaming for you which is WAY less than the macbook

Which laptop should I get?

Q. I need a powerful laptop for school, gaming, photo/video editing, movie making, programming/coding, under $1,700. I have narrowed everything down to 4 choices. The Alienware M14x, the Alienware M17x, the MSI GT70 0ND-444US, or the Apple MacBook Pro Retina display 13". Which one fits the needs I mentioned above.

Answer
For gameing alone I would say the Alienware M17x but for all of them I would say the MSI because the only game the macbook can run is Sims 3. Also the MSI is slim and portable but also has power. With the MSI you should really buy a cooling pad thought. Software to buy would adobe photoshop, adobe after effects or cyberlink powerdirector, microsoft office 2013 student and Microsoft Visual Studio.

How good is the 2013 MacBook Pro non-retina display for gaming?

Eileen Ger

If it's not good can anyone recommend a good gaming laptop?

Answer
The MacBook Pro is not a good laptop for gaming. Macbooks are good for heavy media editing like music and videos. Let us know what type of games you play and your budget to get better answers.

Generally the MSI laptops are slowly dominating the gaming laptop scene but there are a few out there that have better price to performance ratio.

Skype works Great with HQ Video but the volume doesn't appear to be functioning properly, forcing me to use headphones while inside. Please update to fix the volume-media setting.

Basically, the volume is turned up as loud as it can go which for this phone is extremely loud. The only way to resolve this particular issue is with headphones or external speaker that can adjust/lower the volume level.

What are recomended computers for an teacher, graphic designer and a movie maker?

Dexx- Star

and why?

Answer
This could end up being a short book, lol.

Octane Fuels are what Hollywood use. They use the Unix operating system and one computer can cost 5 to 10 thousand US dollars.

Magazine and newsprint use MACs as they seem to be more reliable with less complex graphic design.

I use both MACs and PCs and find them both quite good with graphic animation and single still frames.

You will want a powerful graphic video card - somewhere in the range of 512mb to 1 gig. DO NOT get integrated graphics on the motherboard, such as low end laptops or Emachines from Walmart.

The main thing you should research into, would be graphic design softwares, such as high end Maya 3D from Autodesk(they also own Photoshop) or 3D studio Max, which will cost you much more than the computer will. Beginners or hobbyists can go with Bryce 6 and 7 from DAZ Studios, which is around 100 US dollars and has a very simple, intuitive interface. Bryce can make awesome animations, that can look somewhat realistic; along the lines of Toy Story or Ice Age movies.
Just checked the price on Maya 2013: It is $3,495 USD, but you could try for a student discount and get a good cut in the price.

If you are teaching graphic design, you will need to make your students aware of Maya and Cinema 4D, because these are the top of the line and what Movie makers use to create realistic CGI, such as the Ironman movie, Spiderman Series, John Carter of Mars, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc.

A PC from Amazon or Dell/AlienWare with the proper graphic card will cost from 600 US dollars up to 2000 dollars, just for the desktop tower - keyboard, mouse, monitor not included. Both Radeon and NVidia cards are great performers for creating animation renders.

Finally, it really depends on what type of graphic design you will be doing. If you just wish to do video editing and adding credits, screen transitions or splashes, you could get the latest Photoshop and spend around 600 USD for a top of the line PC tower. MACs from Apple are always more expensive than PCs and you will get the same hardware inside ;-)
