What is so great about a Macbook Pro vs. a regular laptop?

Hey guys, I'm asking for a Macbook Pro 13" or 15" next year. I'm a teenage techie and go ahead and use techie words I'll probably understand what you're talking about. Anyway, the laptop I currently have is around $600 brand new. The Macbook Pros look like they work and act pretty good, but are they really worth the price they're asking for them? I know Mac OS is more stable and graphical and organized than any Microsoft OS, but for the price, what big and awesome new/modified features does a Macbook Pro come with that beats out that $500-700 difference between a regular laptop and a Macbook Pro?

I would like only Macbook Pro owners or someone who knows someone with one to answer. Thanks in advance!

MacBook Pro owner as well a Windows use........

OK why a MacBook Pro easy enough we use it for video editing for most items as well as any and all video projects from building the video to editing and producing the DVDs there is really no seamless program out there that we like than Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Pro.
We also use it for PhotoShop yes it works just as well on a WinTel yet when you have your video programs opened then go to PS you are on the same computer for functionally producing your work on.

Is it the 'Best' NAW.....big NAW I love it I just wish it cost a lot less then I would love it more.
Why do we stay on the Apple side overall the programs that are written for our field of work and the students and filmmakers, editors producers and alike like the Mac. I it is overall the easiest to use with our line of work and as it grew over years more people liked the way Apple made it run easier than other computers. I was in StarDollars a few nights back and all the laptops except one were Apple were they Filmmakers nope just students as well. Students from the local University.

I'm saving up to get a new laptop, and I'm thinking either the MacBook pro or the air. I wanna use it for school since I'm in high school. And like YouTube and tumblr and stuff, so which one would you recommend?

I recommend Macbook Pro.It is a smart choice for professionals and techinical users. It has everything you need in your pc unlike air.Air is cheap but Macbook Pro definitely worth your money. There are good things about both machines in terms of specification. Both are known to have a faster processor,long lasting battery,higher resolution but Air lacks optical media i.e. no built in CD/DVD drive. Where as, Macbook Pro has awesome video quality,video editing and many other extra features. Nobody can compete Macbook Pro in its classy look and unique performance. It's the best.

Which type of Mac should I get?

I want to get a Mac but I'm not sure which kind. I'm not a big editing person but I think it would be interesting to start. Any suggestions?

Here's a breakdown of each type of Mac:

Macbook Air 11" / 13"
This is apple's thin and light laptop. It's designed for someone who does the basic internet and email, documents, etc. It also works for light amounts of on-the-go editing. The biggest advantages are the SSD and thin form factor. The SSD adds durability, and the thin and light form factor allows you to take it anywhere. The big caveat... no CD drive! Battery life 5-7 hours.

Macbook Pro 13"
This is apple's entry level pro machine. It's for people who need more power than the air, but still need to be pretty portable. The HDD is like any other hard drive - more space, but slower than an SSD. 7 hour battery is standard on this thing. It DOES have a CD drive.

Macbook Pro 15"
The standard macbook pro is the most powerful laptop that apple makes, but can be a little expensive. It has a CD drive, Hard drive, a very powerful graphics card, and packs oodles of performance into a thin package, while keeping its 7 hour battery life.

Retina Display Macbook Pro (also 15")
This is apple's flagship notebook model, and while it start at $2100, it has ALL the goodies.... THe retina display is 2880x1800 - way more pixels than an HDTV.... which is great, because it lets you work with photo and video in insane amounts of detail. It has an SSD, tons of RAM and a great graphics card.

Mac mini
This is basically the computer you get if you're not sure you want to make the move to a mac yet. It is a full desktop computer, and you can hook it up to your current monitor and keyboard. The downside, NO CD drive... and okay internals. It is VERY tiny though. It will fit inside a 6" personal pan pizza box. :D

My suggestion, Either the 13" macbook pro or the 21" iMac. They cost about the same, with the tradeoff being mobility vs power (iMac is more powerful, Macbook pro is more mobile)

Which Macbook should i get for my son?

Hi i am looking to get my 10th grade son a macbook for his bday/christmas. He has a dell desktop right now but he has had it for 7-8 yrs and think he needs an upgrade b4 college. What should we get him thats not over the top in price but will have everything he needs for school. It needs to be a laptop also!

Auggie: Don't listen and read garbage that has no grounds. One the article doesn't have any links its just hear say. I can disprove every answer he said. So lets begin.

My Reply. Mac OS X can run both Windows via boot camp or a OS Simulator= VMWare Fusion, Parallels,etc. So you can have the best of both worlds in one unit. Second look at the Media (CNN,FOX,etc even Hollywood) They use Macs because they are great for Multi Media. They were made for Photo and Video Editing. Also Anyone ever hear of iPod and iTunes. Great for Music. Granted if you want a gaming PC a Mac isn't for you. But for everything else its great.

2. "Macs BIOS is confusing, it is not typed correctly and therefor makes the system sluggish in other areas."

My Reply. Macs Start up and Read Hard Drives 10x Faster than a Windows machine. Macs don't have Registry,DLLs, etc. They hardly crash if ever. This guy has no knowledge. He sounds like a fool for even answering a Tech Question.

3. "According to Apples commerial, Macs don't get viruses. Oh really? A test conducted by PC magazine comfirmed that owners of Macs were MORE likely to get viruses than PCs because the people who created viruses for Macs had less targets, so the people with Macs were easy to target. My Reply. This is another sad case of ignorance. One every time Apple sees a threat they release a patch. Microsoft has released God knows how many patches just for its Internet Explorer 8. Also Ever hear of the Conflicter worm. Macs do have Security obviously this proves he is a moron saying they never created it. He sounds like a Microsoft Employee trying to tarnish Apple. My Reply. Once again what a fool. Macs use Aluminum Dell Uses Plastic. Last time I checked Aluminum is a solid metal. So how can you compare durability. Also Windows uses a traditional old Trackpad made of 2 buttons and plastic. Macs have Glass Trackpads, Multi-Finger Gestures, Back-lit keyboards, Built-in Webcams,Mic, How can that even match to a cheap plastic windows machine.

Also just to point out how inexperienced he is. He calls a Windows Machine a PC VS. Mac. The only reason they use the term Mac VS. PC is because its better than saying "Hi I'm a Mac and I'm a Window" If you look at the definition of a PC its a Computer which both Macs and Windows are. The Difference in the Name is the OS/Software.

PS: Stop Crying that Macs are Expensive they lowered the price. Look at the website. They have better deals then some other makers like Toshiba, Sony, and Dell. And Those Customer Service Agents Suck. Apple was rated #1.

I Suggest you get him the Base 13" MacBook Pro. Its got better Specs, all good features, and its Brand New its going to last him through College/University so you won't have to worry about it. They are also upgradable. They can have up to 8 GB of Ram and 500 GB Hard Drives. Have 8 Hour battery life which will last him an entire school day on a single charge. 10X More battery life compared to other Makers. I'll include link to the MacBook Pro so you can see for yourself.

By the way I own both Windows and Macs. I use both equally. Sometimes I use a Mac more mainly because of the editing I can do. Also its much more portable to take.

2009 macbook vs new windows laptop screen quality?

OK, I cannot make up my mind: is older macbook pro screen (say 2009) is better than a new current laptop (e.g. Asus K53E)
I need a color accurate screen for photo and video editing. It does not make sense to buy an outdated laptop, but maybe screen quality is still better than cheap new windows laptop?

are apple screens really that good? does any current windows laptop (CHEAP) can compare to them?
maybe there are any other options?

Remember that Mac's are favored within the media industry now. I'm not really sure how well that 2009 Mac would fair with the new Windows laptop.

From what i'm seeing with the Asus you get more RAM, more HDD, a better CPU but then reading the reviews people say it sucks.
If you can get like a 2010 Mac-Pro then you're good for awhile even though it has a slower CPU and lower RAM, than that Asus.

I have a 2010 MacPro and it still works fine for editing and stuff.
Like i said, Mac's are made for media so it could be a good deal but then again it couldn't.

At first I was thinking I'd just get an HP g-series because they're not too expensive and have good specs, and I personally just love HP, but now I'm interested in the macbook pro..is it that much better than an HP? Why are macbooks like double the price? Is it just because its a mac or what? BTW I would be using this laptop mostly for downloading videos and albums and PhotoShop. So speed and being able to multitask are important.

Well mac are double the price because of the name. Kind of like alienware, you get the exact same hardware but it costs more for no reason. The mac OS isnt good enough to make it worth the extra like $400 for a similar hardware windows laptop lol...
Windows has equivalent software, can run photoshop and etc just like mac.

Speed is based on hardware, if you get a $1000 hp vs a $1000 mac, the hp will have much better hardware.
And all the popular apple myths are wrong, especially about them being virus free lol.

Not sure why the macs just got a huge boost in popularity, is it really because of those dumb commercials? yes im a mac and im a pc, even though that is an false statement, because a PC is a personal computer which would also make mac a pc... So i would say that shows just how ignorant apple is....

1) antivirus software is free, and you still need anti virus software on macs too...
2) blue screens are caused almost all the time from hardware issues or corrupt drivers, macs have a similar screen too....
and guess what, people who arnt retarded like you dont get viruses and dont have hardware problems because we actually know how to use a computer....

3) mac are more expensive (almost double the price) of any other windows computer with the EXACT same hardware. and imovie is not that good, i have used it...
4) "top of the line parts" LOL x 10^10, are you retarded? the hardware in macs arnt made by apple, guess what its the EXACT same hardware as any other computer....
5) "mac wont be obsolete in 2 years" yes you are 100% correct, they become obsolete in months.... using a core 2 dou, a over 5year old processor, that will last so much longer then a sandy bridge core i5/i7 that you could get for the same overall price...


Heres a fun fact, most people who have macs, will use something like boot camp to also be able to boot windows! lol, lets compare that to how many people make hackintosh computers (computer not made by mac able to run the mac os).
