I got a new canon video camera and the software it comes with is not very good. Are there any free video editing software's with a decent amount of effects and other things? or what is a good one that you have to pay for?

video editing software for Canon XL2 video camera?

runningman

I am looking at buying a canon XL2 video camera, what video editing software do you recomend to use with this computer. I would like to edit the software on my PC with windows xp

Answer
Since the XL2 does standard definition DV, any video editor should be just fine - it depends how sophisticated you want to get. So... MovieMaker is bundled with Windows XP (SP2). If you want more sophisticated video editing capabilities, Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere always float to the top.

Your bigger issue is getting the video into your computer. ALL miniDV tape based camcorders transfer video the same way. Your computer needs a firewire port. If it does not have one, hopefully it has an expansion slot so you can add one. You also need a firewire cable.

Firewire400, IEEE1394a, DV and i.LINK are all the same thing. USB won't work. USB-firewire adapter/converters won't work, either.

Connect the firewire cable to the DV port of the camcorder and the firewire port of the computer. Camcorder needs to be in "Play" or "VCR" mode. MovieMaker will capture the video.

I'm doing a film project for my English class, and I need something to help make the presentation. We need some kind of free video editing software, preferably basic and easy to use. We're filming everything on my Canon PowerShot SX120 IS, if camera details are necessary.

If you have any ideas, they would be really appreciated. Thanks! (:

Answer
Windows Movie Maker. It is basic and easy to use.

Hope this help
Good luck with your project.

I'm getting a Canon 5d mark ii soon. Can anyone suggest some video editing software that I could use for it?

Laura

Like I said, I'm a photo major and I'm buying a canon 5d mark ii. I definitely want to experiment with video. Does anyone have any video editing software to recommend? I want to be able to cut things up, lay audio over things, and I want to be able to put coloring effects on it, like messing around with RGB curves in photoshop. The cheaper(or free-er), the better. Thank you!
