Software for video editing, compatible with Canon 550d?

Hello, I wouldn't usually ask this, and I feel kind of silly. But I recently bought myself a Canon550d, and the videos are beautiful quality, etc.. I assume that this question could also be applied for other Canon's that use video, but I cannot seem to edit them. I can't put them into any programmes as they're not "supported file types". Does anyone know of a solution, or can tell me what they use? Maybe I need to do something different on my actual camera? I just find it hard to believe that the cameras videos wouldn't be compatible with both iMovie and Windows Movie Maker, aaaaah, help? :)

I have recorded videos with my canon 550d and now i want to edit it with windows movie maker but it wont import? why? and what should i do.

well to edit eos 550d video you need professional video editor software ,
windows movie maker does not support hd video ,
more over , windows movie maker does not accepts , mov video , and canon records mov video .
so in order to use windows movie maker first you will need to convert mov file either to wmv or avi format then it would accept it .

there is paid program called xvideo converter which can convert the mov to any other format of you choice.

Virtually any software is going to convert the files into it's native format to do any editing.

What you need to look for is the ability to make the output convert pack to the original format. This should be able to be done in the settings of the program.

Windows movie maker, imovie, etc are great free editing tools. But mov always hard to be recognized by many software. Best way is to change the mov video format, and then many powerful editors could be used easily. Have a try.

need help with video editing regarding resolution?

hi, my friends working for an arts organization shot some cultural dance sequences using canon 550d dslr camera.

they have accidently shot the video with the resolution 1440 x 1080 instead of full hd!

now the final output looks good on the comp, but when they burn the dvd of the same, the output is really bad.

anyway to fix this?

If you want people to answer your question, please state also the software names.

If it looks good on the comp, i assume it is the dvd burning problem.

Please explain how bad the output is, the quality could be lowered of the screen could become square instead of widescreen. If my assumption is correct, you might have set the dvd burning settings to 4:3, which it should be 16:9 for a better look.

Try exporting the video first, check if it is ok in windows media player or quicktime or vlc. then burn it with correct settings.

As Windows Movie maker is free software from Microsoft I suggest you upgrade, especially as you have a good HD camera you should have a good editing program too.
I use Sony Vegas Pro 10, there are plenty of Youtube tutorials on how to get it free.
For HD you should upload a 1280x720 project for it to fill the whole screen (I don't know whether you can choose the screen size in Windows Movie Maker).
I appreciate your effort to remove the black bars.
