Where can I buy Ponkikki video tapes?

Shelock Ho

I have an autistic brother and he solely has been asking for Ponkikki videos for a long time now. It is like trying to find a needle in a haystack and I need some assistance. Does anybody have any idea where I can find Ponkikki videos or even DVD's of that show? It would be greatly appreciated.

I want to learn video editing but can't afford professional software. What should I get?

Grammar Na

Adobe Creative Suite with After Effects and Premier Plus costs as much as my first car probably will. Even with a student discount it costs more than my computer.
I've tried Wax, Jashaka, T@B ZweiStein, and other freeware alternatives, but they're terribly buggy and unstable.
Is there any other semi-professional level software that I could get without having to drop out of college to pay for? Thanks for any suggestions.
And no, I'm not going to steal a pirated copy. Stealing something that expensive is a Class C felony in Washington state for heaven's sake!

Answer
You can get After Effects and other Adobe software for a very low monthly subscription fee (about $20 per month for students).

What is a good Desktop for school and little gaming?

Moogle Moo

Hello, i want to get a desktop that is good for gaming like minecraft, maplestory, and rumblefighter that plays smoothly. I also want to use it for school, i might also want to do video editing or using photoshop. I also want one that doesn't lag for along time or lag often, i might also watch movies/shows/animes on it.
Thank you :)
- Nathan
I would also play sims too!
I'm not going to play high end games
Thank you :)

Answer
Well...It would depend on the games you would like to play. If you are planning to play high end games then you would need a good graphics card involved. It also depends on the applications you run on your system. I would suggest any computer with the following components.

Processor - AMD Phenom II X4 3.4 GHz Black edition or Intel I7 processor
Motherboard - ASUS or Gigabyte that supports DDR3 RAM or if using Intel Processor, Intel MB.
RAM - DDR3...at least 4GB (if MB has 4 slots, you can have up to 16 GB).
Graphics Card - ATI Radeon or nVidia GE Force 9600 1GB.

A configuration that involves the above components is fast and can be used for any softwares and games that are currently being used for education. However, your experience also depends on the OS. I would suggest Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate with Aero.

Can a Computer Programmer or Computer Software Engineer create an entire website by them self?

ANDRE

What exactly can you do with the education of a Computer Programmer? Also, could you do anything associated with video games? If you could please make a list of every possible thing you can do if you a properly educated Computer Programmer. Thank you.

Answer
My best friend and I both have the same university degree, even with the same specialization at that university. However, our interests differ. He would have no problems making a pretty advanced computer game, and I have no problems making professional web sites. Both of us probably would need a graphic designer to dot the i's, but you get the idea:

go to a good uni with a good CS program (one that does NOT teach you how to use Microsoft Access!) and you'll come a long way.

## EDIT ## Web sites are NOT mainly CSS and mark up; that statement holds only for static websites. I'm pretty sure that most websites nowadays contain more than 95% program code --the rest being mark up.

What do I need to compose music and polish it for a video game portfolio?

Alex

Becoming a video game composer is my big dream and I really want to make it happen. For now I'm using Sibelius 7 (notation software) to create my music, but I don't know if that's enough though. I need to know what kind of gear I'm going to need if I want to make this into a career. Do I need a midi keyboard? What's a sequencer? Oh, do I need a keyboard of some sort? How do you create sound samples and with what? What do I need to edit, mix, and produce music for the best quality.

When answering this question you must assume that I know nothing about recording, mixing, and producing. By the way, I'm looking to compose in a variety of genres; orchestral, swing, new world, rock/metal, electronic and some other unique inventions of my own that I know sibelius alone can't fulfill.

I've also though about investing in one of the following; an education in digital arts (recording, mixing, and producing) or an education in music composition. I feel the latter will give me every thing I'm looking for, but I'm just not sure and I wanna make the right move.

I need an answer as soon as possible because I've been putting this goal off for to long and it's time to make my dream career work for me.

I'm looking for answers from those who are in a closely related field and have had success, but for those in video game music specifically, even better.

Answer
It would be helpful to know how much music training you've had and how old you are. I would definitely recommend becoming proficient in playing the piano since that's the foundation for knowing how to compose. You would really benefit from having a quality midi keyboard with multi-track recording capabilities and numerous instruments and drum sounds. Don't get the cheapest one because you need to build up your portfolio with quality recordings. If you look into getting an education in music composition make sure the college specializes in contemporary music. I made the mistake of going to a college that only taught classical music which really wasn't what I was looking for.

Once you've recorded something you'll need to be able to turn it into a MP3 or WAV file so you can email out samples of your work. Below is a link to an article on how to do that.

Where can i download video editors just like iMovie?

Hannah Kle

Well macs are too expensive and i can buy one so i have windows 7, i use Windows Live Movie Maker its Pretty good but i want one like iMovie because i LOVE video editing. So if anyone could get me a link or something that is just alike to iMovie and if i like it you will get 100 POINTS!!! So help please!

Answer
Because of patent laws, one program can't be "just like" another one. They can do similar basic things but they're all set up just a little differently. There's a reason that Macs are more expensive and iMovie is one of those reasons. The closest you're going to get to iMovie on a PC is one of the commercial (not free) programs and it's not going to work "exactly" like iMovie. Adobe's Premiere Elements is probably as close as you're going to get to iMovie. It's on sale this week at Staples, Best Buy and others. If you're a student you can buy for less through Adobe's Education Store.

What would be a good video camera and software for my movie?

Andrew

I finished my script and have had it copyrighted and writer's guild approved and now I need to get a camera and some good production software. What would you suggest because I have about $2000 dollar budget but don't know what to get.

Answer
Camera:
Canon HV30 $770
It's the only camcorder I'd recommend under $2,000. It's an HDV camcorder, which means it records to miniDV cassette tapes which go for about $2 a piece. Don't let anyone tell you any different: HDV is sooo much better than Hard Drive, miniDVD, or SD card camcorders:
-easier to store: miniDV is cheap
-best quality: least compression
-miniDV is compatible with virtually any NLE system

Regarding the HV30: the Canon HV30 has excellent picture quality. It produces extremely sharp HD footage. It also has excellent color saturation on it's suprisingly impressive single 1/2.7" CMOS chip. It also has an excellent automatic mode, meaning it's super easy to use. I'm more of a manual guy myself, but I shoot with the HV30 in auto because it's so good; it has the fastest autofocus I have ever seen.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/539289-REG/Canon_2680B001_VIXIA_HV30_HDV_Camcorder.html
It also has a 24p mode, which is excellent for movies, short films and documentaries. 24p makes your digital video look more like celluloid film. It's not perfect, but still.

Several problems with the HV30:
it's a consumer camera so it's manual controls suck, but it's good enough to keep in auto. All it's manual functions are hidden in its menu, except for focus, which merits a flimsy focus dial near the lens.

Software: the best is Avid Media Composer, but it only works on Macs and very powerful PCs. Next best is Final Cut Studio, but it only works on Macs. Final Cut Studio (FCS) is actually my favorite cuz it comes with Final Cut Pro (for editing), Soundtrack Pro (for music composing) Color (for color correction) Motion (for 3D effects) Compresser (for professional compression) and DVD Studio Pro (for making DVDs). Next best is Adobe Premiere Pro.

The problem is, Adobe, Avid and FCS are extremely expensive. However, if you are a student, or know a student you could use, you could get them for huge discounts!!!
AVID MEDIA COMPOSER $295 (regular price:$2,500)
FINAL CUT STUDIO $700 (regular price $1,200)
ADOBE PREMIERE PRO $350 (regular price $700)
http://journeyed.com/home.asp
http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/education_routing/

Both Avid and FCS have pretty hefty computer requirements, but Adobe is pretty lax. I have a PC with 1GHz processor and 1GB RAM, and Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 worked fine (but I wasn't editing HD)

Assuming you get a $780 camcorder and a $700 program, you have about $500 to spend on accessories. Here are some things you may need to make your movie:
1) Microphone: probably a shotgun: RODE VideoMic $150 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/363083-REG/Rode_VIDEOMIC_VideoMic_Camera_Mounted.html
2) Lighting Equipment: don't spend $2,000 on a light kit. Just get a high wattage lamp at Home Depot or something. Two or Three 200W lights should be fine.
3) Tripod: don't get anything fancy. Just get something to hold up the camera. Getting a nice tripod will only encourage you to keep in on the tripod for the whole movie= boring. Take it off the tripod. Borrow a Wheelchair and use it as a dolly!

That should be under $2,000. So, anyways, I hope that helps, and happy moviemaking!

Where to buy cheaper software for students?

I am wondering what the best website is to buy software, with discounts for students. I am trying to buy video editing and animation software, like adobe after effects and sony vegas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Both of these companies for the software programs you ask about provide student discounts. It just depends on whether you qualify. You will need to read up on it to see:

Adobe:

Any suggestions on how to master the Canon download/editing software for a 30D camera?

Sachie

I find the instructions and the software incredibly complex and intimidating? Any suggestions on how to do it all relatively simply, e.g., getting my feet wet slowly and then learning more as I go along? Any books or videos that can help?

Answer
The software is a basic editing program and is VERY limited. To my knowledge there are no books or videos on it, as its is updated often and again very limited on its uses.

I would suggest getting either Photoshop CS2 or CS3. If you can afford them, be aware of the education version, as they are full versions and a huge savings even for Part time students!!!) Or else you can get Photoshop Elements 5 or 6 at most shops, even Costco or here on Amazon. They will help you a lot more, and CS2 or CS3 will do more than you can imagine!!!! There are a ton of great books or vids on each program. I suggest the ones by Scott Kelby. He writes then for non computer people, and mostly towards photographers, so its easier for most to understand and follow.

Hope this helps. The 30D is a great camera. Enjoy it. BTW if you plan to upgrade to a 40D or newer, and shoot Raw, you will need CS3 to process it, or use the canon software and then save it and open it with another program. Thats why I finally had to upgrade as all my cameras I use were only supported in CS3 for raw.
