i need video editing software?

kiss me!!!

i only have half a gb of ram. i cant afford a new computer but i need some sort of video editing software for my course. i have audacity so i no extremely basic software will work. this comp is also only 32bit so i'm pretty limited. sony vagas def doesn't work and no adobe will work cause they need one gb of ram minimum. some one please help

Answer
Unforfortunately, your computer barely meets the requirements for doing any video work. It isn't the fact that's it's 32 bit - there's not that many video editors that need that yet, but given the amount of memory and probably your processor the rendering of the finished video is going to take ages.

Windows Movie Maker should already be on your computer if not you can get it from http://www.brothersoft.com/downloads/windows-movie-maker.html Version 2.6 will probably work for you.

Tutorials for it can be found at http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Tutorials/

There are others though...

Wax - http://www.debugmode.com/wax/ - this is also a compositor - a bit like Adobe's After Effects
Zwei-Stein - http://www.thugsatbay.com/tab/?q=zweistein - it's good but their interface is simply awful
TrakAxPC - http://www.trakax.com/software/pc/download/
VideoSpin - http://www.videospin.com/
VideoPad - the free version - http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html - I like this one
Lightworks - http://www.lightworksbeta.com/ - another good one

VirtualDub, RAD Video tools, AVITricks and Avidemux are also good tools you should look at. Although not full editors like the others they have some useful features.

All of these editors are free.

I think that Lightworks and Wax together would be a good video editing system for free but WMM would still be good for you. You're going to have to check if your computer meets the minimum requirements for any of these editors.

Video editing...?

i have just started making videos for youtube. i want to be able to do special effects and voiceovers for them though (like make my voice sound like a chipmunk). i dont want to buy $300 dollar editing software (i dont want to buy software at all) i went online and found a free downloadable software and all was goin well i installed it, i opened it...yaaa...but...when i went to start to put a video on to start to edit it, it said that the software co. made an illegal actiaon and then it closes and then ill open it again and put the video on to start to edit and the same screen pops up...now for my question.... can i fix this problem by myself or do i have to find another software online? and if i should get another software, what should i get??? IT MUST BE TOTALLY FREEEEEE AND IT MUST BE DOWNLOADABLE OFF OF THE INTERNET!!!!!!!!!!!!! by the way the thing i downloaded was called like Wax 2.0.....THANX YAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
it sounds like you're trying to edit sound effects, but you're using video program to edit sound, which may not work, video programs usually import the sounds previously made, some have sound editing extensions adding on, so not sure what tools you were using, so try sound editor to make sounds, then import to video sound track with movie separate,

How do you put two sound track/ sound effects on windows movie maker?

video editing software like audacity
 on Editors Rating
video editing software like audacity image

Emily

I've recently downloaded the newest update for windows movie maker but it seems you can only put one sound track/ one sound effect on the actual video. How do you get it to play two sound tracks? And if it doesn't does anybody know a better video editing software for free/ can buy cheaply that allows you to do this?

Answer
Elementary my dear Emily! You mix your sound tracks (as many as you need) together using audio recording software like Audacity which is FREE and then you export it from Audacity as one .wav file and then import it into Windows Movie Maker and synchronize it with the video. Piece of cake. Hmmmm, actually you might need to use Cakewalk for that instead of Audacity. Just kidding!

Is there a video editing software like Audacity but for videos?

HaloHelper

I have had Audacity for a while now and just discovered Youtube Poop movies. I can make them, but only using the audio. I want to make videos but I can't find an easy program to use. Also, i've heard of Sony Vegas, is that easy to use? I have enough money to buy it, if it is good. Thanks in advance to any helpful answers!
Youtube Poop videos are where someone gets a clip and messes it up, for example, making SpongeBob swear or just reversing clips to make them funnier. Please don't ask me why I want to make one.

Answer
Greetings fellow Audacity user! I still use Audacity audio for my videos. There is free editing software and those you pay money for. Basically they all work the same and use timelines. Do some research and find software you are comfortable with, and this depends on what you actually want to do.

What is a great, free video editing software?

video editing software like audacity
on Once imported, you can use the space bar to play your audio file, or ...
video editing software like audacity image

Damion E

I need a video software I can use that is free, yet amazing. Almost like a pro video editing software. Something with good effects, and so on. I already have Windows Live Movie Maker, so I am looking for something better than that, once again, for free. Please help. Thank you. :)

Answer
Here are the best of the free video editing programs i have found, and a short little review about each one that i have compiled:
(as with free software there are usually limits, as far as video editors go, free editors usually have lack for file type support, or limited effects)

-Videopad http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html (video editing, limited to avi/wmv/asf and DVD. Unlimited audio tracks, text/picture overlay layer, add subtitles easily, 3D support. Not many effects/transitions, but able to import virtualdub effects to be used. Easy to use interface)
-Videospin http://videospin.com/Redesign/ (video editing, limited to avi/mpg-1/wmv, 2 extra audio tracks, text/picture overlay layer, title/credits, easy to use interface. No extra effects.)
-Lightworks http://www.lightworksbeta.com/ (video editing, requires matrox VFM codec + quicktime installed, requires 3gb+ of ram. Lots of video effects. Support for all formats. 3D support. Harder to use interface)
-TrakAxPC http://www.trakax.com/software/pc/download/ (video editing, limited to avi/wmv and mp3/wma/wav/oog/flac formats, Lots of effects. Clunky interface)

-Wax http://www.debugmode.com/wax/download.htm (2d/3d video effects, only works with .avi files, harder to use interface)
wax is kind of like a vary limited stripped down version of after effects. But its the only effects comp software that is free so, no choice really.

Video converter, so you can convert videos so they can be used with above software (remember when converting video, you are compressing it, and when you compress it you will lose quality you can not get back. If you leave all the parameters of the video the same as source, the quality loss is usually barely noticeable. Also remember just like audio, you can NOT increase quality.)
-Freemake video converter http://freemake.com (convert to many types of videos, very easy to use)

And lastly audio editor for editing audio or music in your videos:
-Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/ (you will need to get the lame mp3 encoder and ffmpeg addons from the download page. Also id suggest getting extra plugins aswell)

What free video editing software allows you to have more than layer of audio at the same time?

Lord Facem

I currently use Windows Movie Maker, and I am working on a project that requires more than one audio layer at a time. The only way to do this is to save it once and then add the second layer of audio to the saved video, and after saving it twice the video and audio quality turns to crap. If you could, please recommend me some free video editing software that allows you to have more than one audio layer at a time. kthx
I am using Windows XP.

Answer
Audacity has always been multi-track capable [check out (5)]..
Audacity..
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Lame if needed to encode to mp3:
http://lame.sourceforge.net/
How to install Lame:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&i=lame-mp3
Basic tutorials:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/manual-1.2/tutorials.html
http://www.recipester.org/Software/Audacity

Very basic Audacity starter guide.

(1) Because of patent restrictions Lame needs to be downloaded and installed separately to save tracks in mp3 format.

(2) Audacity will only accept and play files in wav, mp3, Ogg and aiff format apart from it's own native .aup format.
A short noise for about one second indicates an incorrect file format.

(3) For any effects to be active a part or all of the track needs to be highlighted.
Left click on a blank part of the panel to the left of the waveform or use ctrl+a to highlight the whole track or left click, hold and drag to highlight a selected portion of it.

(4) The recording input is selected from a drop down list at the top right of the program.
For Vista users if "stereo mix" or "what you hear" is not active on the input list:
Vista: Click Start> Control Panel. Select Manage Audio Devices in the Sound Section.
Click the Recording Tab and if the Stereo Mix Option is missing right-click on an empty part of the window and left-click on Show Disabled Devices. Right-click on the icon and select Enable. This will enable recording of sound coming through your speakers.

(5) Multi-track recording setup:
Version 1.2 via File menu, version 1.3 via Edit menu.
Preferences / Audio I/O tab and check:
"play other tracks while recording new one".
Version 1.3.12 - Edit / Preferences / Recording:
"Playthrough / Overdub / "play other tracks while recording new one".
Import the first track then monitor it while recording subsequent track/s.
It's best to use headphones while doing this to prevent feedback.

What is the video editing software used by ew1282 in his Viva La Vida - Coldplay - Violin cover on youtube ?

Chamira Wy

He shows many videos at once and you can hear then also? i play the violin also and i really want to know what editing software or something similar he uses.
Sorry He Doesnt Show Many Videos AT Once lol but Some Videos Do . Can You Tell me That Software Too?

Answer
Wow, he has a lot of views/subs :O
Is it the same guy in the whole video??
Honestly literally all video editing software can do that, although some may require audacity to help. Some expensive ones like Sony Vegas or Final cut pro simply requires him to add clips on top of each other and then he is done. Otherwise, he would need to convert the files from video to mp3 (he would then have a bunch of video and sound clips).
He would then edit the sound clips on audacity so that they play as one simultaneous soundtrack. Now he opens up the video editing software (anything, even windows live movie maker and windows movie maker can do this) and then puts the clips together and then adds the audio track. He would then go to one of the options (depending on what program it is) and then mute all the video clips and have all the sound come from the soundtrack.
Usually the video clips require trimming
