You shot some great video with your digital camera while on vacation with family but the problem is that at times, you were holding the camera vertically.

That video was therefore captured in portrait mode and you have to turn the head sideways each time you watch those video clips inside Windows Media Player or on the large TV screen.

To fix this, you need to rotate the video clips 90° to convert them from portrait to landscape mode - any decent video editing software can do this including Quick Time or Windows Movie Maker, one thatâs already installed on your XP or Vista computer (under Video Effects).

But sometimes, the default 90 or 180 degree rotation isnât enough and you need to rotate a video by some custom angle like say 45 degrees. In that case you would need VirtualDub - a lightweight but exceptionally useful video program.

Open the video clip inside VirtualDub and press Ctrl+F to load the filters menu. Now a add a filter that says ârotate2â³ - this allows you rotate video clips by any arbitrary angle.

VirtualDub supports most video formats and can also be used to straighten videos captured via mobile phone cameras.

My husband made a video on the camera, he turned it sideways can it be fixed?

So my husband made a video on the digital camera, without thinking he turned it sideways like you would for a picture. The screen showed it the right way when he taped it so he didn't think about it being sideways until we went to play it... Is there software or a program to rotate it or are we just out of luck?

Answer
Good news: there is software available from several companies that can edit multimedia images, including those from a digital camera or camcorder. A simple Internet search with the phrase 'video editing software' should point you most them.

Bad news: whichever software you choose, it will mean rotating every single image frame one by one; I know of none that can rotate hundreds or thousands of frames en masse. The simplest editors will have you select the image frame to edit (one click on a lineup of frames across the bottom of your screen), then click on an icon on the toolbar that represents the function "Rotate 90 degrees."

Envision doing that several hundred or a few thousand times in a row. Hopefully, there is one (or more) than can do many frames at once, but I haven't encountered it. Good luck.

Is there any way to rotate a digital video clip?

I shot a video clip with the camera sideways (like you would do for a photo). I want to keep the video but it displays sideways on the screen/tv. Is there any way to rotate the whole clip 90 degrees (like you can do with digital pics)?

Answer
The Blaze Media Pro software includes a powerful and fast video editor feature with the ability to rotate AVI, MPG, WMV, and ASF files with ease. To use the video rotate feature, click "Edit Video" from the main interface. From the resulting video editor window, you can then open the video file you wish to rotate, perform the rotate operation, and save the video file back to the same filename or a new file. Direct video rotate is available for MPEG-1, MPEG-2, AVI (uncompressed), AVI (compressed using any available codec), WMV, and ASF. The video rotate operation can also be performed in batch mode on a list of video files using the software's Batch Video Processor feature. The software also provides other comprehensive video editing operations (delete frame, delete selection, crop, resize, mirror, flip, trim, text overlay, adjust audio volume, etc.). In addition, an extensive list of over 30 effects and color adjustment operations allow for powerful video enhancement and alternation. WAV, WMA, and MP3 audio files can be inserted into the video or extracted from the video; and BMP, GIF, JPG, PCX, PNG, RAS, PPM, TGA, and TIF are the supported image formats that can be inserted or extracted. The video rotate operation is very fast and easy to use. Advanced options are available for those who want to take advantage of them, though they are completely optional, making Blaze Media Pro the perfect video rotate software for users of any experience level.

You can download it from here.
