Whats the best laptop I can get currently under $700?

Arthur5088

I need a laptop for school mainly, but I do some gaming and also some video and sound editing on the side. Nothing heavy though, just a hobby. So basically I would need a decent amount of storage for music/videos. Good wifi reception and no smaller than 14-15" screen. So fat I really like the style of the HP Envy with beats speakers, but the only one under $700 carriers an AMD 10 processor and then it jumps to almost $1000 for an i5.
I've been told to stay i5 or higher.

Answer
All AMD machines are really not bad at all, the AMD CPU has a good GPU built in, which can work in crossfire if there is a GPU integrated onto the motherboard.

With today's power of of CPU's its really not as important as it was 10 years ago when the CPU's where still switching from 32 bit and single core to multicore and 64 bit.

What is important with today's laptops, when you want maximum performance out of them, the components will generate heat, inside of a small enclosure, which is what really generates the problems, like hardware failure and generally low performance.

the general rule of thumb is, the bigger the laptop, the faster it will dissipate heat from the internal components, but in turn you sacrifice mobility, as the laptop gets bigger.

Currently im sitting on a DV6Z, last generation hardware, which can play just about anything I throw at it, at high settings but the 15 inch laptop sometimes struggles with heat dissipation especially during the summertime.

Intel indeed core for core churns out more performance compared to AMD, but that comes at a premium and CPU performance is, day by day becoming less and less important, as Graphics are becoming more and more important.

Overall, the amount of power you will need from CPU and GPU should be your main consideration, as overkill in laptops usually becomes a bad thing, but the corporations don't care, they just want to market and sell, its up to you to chose the correct computer.

At 700$ you would probably be much better off with an all AMD machine, that's about how much I paid for mines and the power to heat dissipation is just right, but you will have a choice of newer components, which will in fact be just right and more powerful then my laptop, which I think is very good for its class and value.

Best laptop for video editing?

Gleek

I like to make videos and right now I'm making them on my desktop but I can't exactly transport that and also it's not really good. I'm looking for something under $700 and is great for video editing. Also if you know any good places to get a MacBook for under $900 that would be good as well. I don't care if it's been used.

Answer
The HP Pavilion dv7-7010us 17.3-Inch Laptop should be good for video editing.

It's large in screen size allowing you to work easily.

what is the best laptop under 700 dollars for video editing?

Bob Kingsl

Answer
Id say, probably a Dell studio, or Toshiba.

For video editing, and i cant bleieve im actually going to submit this but i would say go for a MAC. this is what macs were intended for, and they are best designed for video and music editing. They are much smoother with video rendering and tend to have faster memory base than PC regarding it as well.

now, let me go clean my vomit off the floor....

basic video editing laptop for under $700?

Bagel

I know it sounds ridiculous, but I'm looking for something that will handle Premiere decently and at least work with after effects. If I have anything heavy duty to be done, I can have it done at a workstation... Is there such thing as a laptop with a video card (and duh, a dv port) under $700?

So, what will be pretty reliable and give me the most bang for the buck? (besides a macbook, I know)

Answer
A laptop that will do Adobe Pemier for under $700 .. yeh right.

Next.

Try $1000+ or get a MacBook or MacBook Pro

The gruntier your laptop the better off you will be. There is no use trying to cut corners on cost when it comes to video editing unless you like waiting around for things to take their time.

I don't

I'm looking for a very portable laptop either 13 or 15 inch for under 700 dollars Im going to be using it to surf the web and do some video editing and using photo shop so I want it to be really fast and have a long battery life I won't be using it for gaming

Answer
i would go for this one, I am an environmental science major and i use it for some demanding programs. This has an AMD A6 processor and graphics, it is quad core with a 1 gb dedicated Graphics card(up to 4 gb total,3 shared). This also has turbo boost. it normally works at a slow speed, but when a program needs it, it boosts from 1.4 to 2.5 ghz. this saves battery life/power. the speed is more then enough,it will be ok for 5 or 6 years as this is a quad core. it also has a good size hard drive and it is 15 inches. The processor just came out like 3 months ago, it is much better then the intel i5 and much cheaper. This laptop costs 450, I have had it about a week and i love it. The only thing i dont like about it is the screen size, i prefer a 13 inch but everything else is great on it. This laptop technology is brand new, so it isnt like half of the laptops on the market now, 5 or 6 year old technology. so not only is it cheap comparatively( an intel i5 with the same specs would be at least three hundred dollar more) but you dont have to worry about the technology being outdated any time soon.

Jennifer

So my computer is dying on me. It's very slow so I need a new one. This fall I'm going to college as a marketing major but I also need to edit a lot of videos because its my hobby. So I need one that's good for holding a lot of documents and also has great power for video editing. I do not want a mac because they are too expensive for me right now. And if it's under $700 that would be great
