What Laptop brand should I get, and why?

AllisonC

I like to do video editing (like Movie Maker, Windows Movie Maker, etc...) and go on internet and all. But What brand is the best for that?

Answer
Hello,

Just as you posted your question.
It isn't about what make. Its what you want to do with it.
You want the software packages that go with a laptop.

Mac is a make and an operating system, and very good at multimedia.
But for some interesting information go to http://www.youtube.com/ and do a search on Hackintosh. Else you can just click here @ http://www.youtube.com/results?feature=moby&search_query=Hackintosh&search_type=&aq=f

hackintosh and FlashPlayer?

BabaSai

I know there's a lot of hatred for FlashPlayer streaming videos making the web browsers crash. I wondered if that is because of mac hardware only, or if mac software?

In other words, does a hackintosh ("pc" hardware running mac software) have the same problems as a full mac system?

Answer
Yes, and they have additional problems.

Although I haven't had any problems with flash yet myself :/ Even if it drains my laptop's battery like mad.

EDIT: Just looked up this issue, it only occurs on some versions of flash. And the issues have been resolved as of the recent flash release.

Should i get an hp laptop or macbook pro?

T!ka :)

At first I was thinking I'd just get an HP g-series because they're not too expensive and have good specs, and I personally just love HP, but now I'm interested in the macbook pro..is it that much better than an HP? Why are macbooks like double the price? Is it just because its a mac or what? BTW I would be using this laptop mostly for downloading videos and albums and PhotoShop. So speed and being able to multitask are important.

Answer
Well mac are double the price because of the name. Kind of like alienware, you get the exact same hardware but it costs more for no reason. The mac OS isnt good enough to make it worth the extra like $400 for a similar hardware windows laptop lol...
Windows has equivalent software, can run photoshop and etc just like mac.

Speed is based on hardware, if you get a $1000 hp vs a $1000 mac, the hp will have much better hardware.
And all the popular apple myths are wrong, especially about them being virus free lol.

Not sure why the macs just got a huge boost in popularity, is it really because of those dumb commercials? yes im a mac and im a pc, even though that is an false statement, because a PC is a personal computer which would also make mac a pc... So i would say that shows just how ignorant apple is....

EDIT: @ its me
Well there you go, that really shows how ignorant mac users are lmao
1) antivirus software is free, and you still need anti virus software on macs too...
2) blue screens are caused almost all the time from hardware issues or corrupt drivers, macs have a similar screen too....
and guess what, people who arnt retarded like you dont get viruses and dont have hardware problems because we actually know how to use a computer....

3) mac are more expensive (almost double the price) of any other windows computer with the EXACT same hardware. and imovie is not that good, i have used it...
4) "top of the line parts" LOL x 10^10, are you retarded? the hardware in macs arnt made by apple, guess what its the EXACT same hardware as any other computer....
5) "mac wont be obsolete in 2 years" yes you are 100% correct, they become obsolete in months.... using a core 2 dou, a over 5year old processor, that will last so much longer then a sandy bridge core i5/i7 that you could get for the same overall price...

Heres a fun fact, most people who have macs, will use something like boot camp to also be able to boot windows! lol, lets compare that to how many people make hackintosh computers (computer not made by mac able to run the mac os).

would i be able to run leopard on a laptop not a mac?

sdfan51

im planning to buy either a sony vaio or apple macbook and i am getting tired of using windows based programs but still familiar with the mac os. if i buy a vaio can i install leopard and would it function normally?

Answer
There are install DVDs for Leopard. This is very difficult and the machine can be unstable, but if you have a newer laptop, it should be ok.

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

http://hackintosh.org/

You will need to download a hacked Install DVD of leopard. There are plenty on the torrent sites.

If you really want Mac OSX. Just buy the Mac. Your Sony Vaio would be unstable, wireless internet probably would not work, as well as a number of other things. However, getting Max OSX to run on a PC is very cool, but not if you are really wanting to use your laptop everyday.

I edited this post because of the other posts. It is very possible. These other people don't know what they are talking about. I have an HP laptop with Mac OSX Leopard on it right now. After adding some drivers, it runs as good as any Mac can run Mac OSX. Do some research before you give some retarded answer about system architecture. Macs run the same motherboard, processors, memory, video cards as PCs. Its called BIOS.

Just visit the websites. There are thousands of people doing this, and many like me have a lot of luck.

Hackintosh? Explain in depth Please...?

Andrew Par

I understand the basics - you partition, use a special distro, or a retail CD (with some modifications), and, after a lot of time and effort, the Magic happens.

However, guides seem to be either too dumbed down or way above my head...could somebody give me the most current knowledge (readable, but not dumbed down?) on getting Hackintosh a la Snow Leopard onto a PC?

iAtkos (iKaros now, too, I think), iDeneb, Kalyway - I understand that they vary according to your system.

For Snow Leopard, I *THINK* you must already have a Leopard partition before going to Snow Leopard, there is no fresh install? I really don't know, it could be old info.

Some guides say its easy as 1,2,3 (well, maybe a few more steps :D ), others go into great deal, making it almost a turn-off with their complications.

Anyone have or know-of a good middle of the road guide?

I am looking for a new laptop, these are the possible specs:

Thanks for all the help....
I don't need to make a DVD - your answers are completely off topic. I was looking for information on a Hackintsoh, , also known as OSX86, running Mac OSX on a PC.

Oh, FYI, I am not a Mac Fanboy. In fact, I despise the OS, however I am doing this fro the leaning experience and to rub it in Apple's face that I can get their shininess for $0.
