What is a good program for editing videos?

I've been wanting to upload videos to YouTube for a while, but many things have set me back. Most of which are done and dealt with, but what I need now is a program that is good for editing videos. Because I tried windows live movie maker and it kept freezing and crashing, then I tried it's cousin windows movie maker 6.0 and it was way to complicated. So what I need to know is a good editing movie making software that will allow me to make videos. Please help.

The best two out there is Sony Vegas Pro12 and After Effects cs6 its what most of your favorite youtubers use (movie maker users are considered noobs :P)
Vegas Pro Pro's:
Easy to learn,Lots of different settings and effects built in,much like movie maker
Cons:
It likes to crash A LOT depending on file sizes and render settings (can take anywhere between 1 hour - 12 hours to render a full 1080p HD video up to 15mins in length)
After Effects Pro's: Doesn't crash, works well with Photoshop and illustrator,renders much faster,more settings and custom-able
Cons:
Uses lots of RAM (79% of 8GB of mine when rendering), I have a problem with sound

Does anyone know of any better free video editing softwares, other than windows movie maker?

I really hate WMM, it keeps freezing and crashing and I need something that can chromakey, any ideas? Only serious answers will get considered for best answer.

My WMM keeps crashing and refusing to save my videos, so I really need a new video editing program. Requirements as follows:

- Free
- Ability to split clips and edit them together with music, plus basic fade in/fade out transitions
- Easy to use, or has a decent tutorial
- Doesn't have a lot of bugs
- Can work with all the common types of video files

Any suggestions?

You may try this Video Editor, it's a nice video editing software that can help you edit, join, split, trim, crop, convert and cut video, my friends recommend it to me, it's easy to use and works pretty well for me, it embeds many special effects. I had made a video with it and the video got award, that's pretty cool. Here is the free download link.

I make Youtube videos and I have Windows 7 Movie Maker but it keeps crashing whenever I try to upload a video to edit. If someone has a solution to this then that would be perfect too.

But mainly I'm looking for free software that is easy to use.

Photobucket is a great web based and FREE editing tools. The software behind it comes from Adobe who make some of the best commercial ($$$) photo and video editors. If you need/want more features downloading VideoSpin or VideoThang are great options. Still free, but you have to download the software. For under $100 you can buy Adobe Premiere Elements.

I have editing software- its okay but Actually WMM was better if only it would right. What other programs could i try?

WMM crashes a lot! I recommend Sony Vegas 7.0

I have Sony Vegas 8.0, but I HATE IT! I have so many problems with it. It crashes and loses my work constantly!

Sony Vegas 7.0 is my favorite.
