Know a free video editing software for windows xp/vista?

Soo, my camera records videos in mp4 format. I'd love to edit them in Windows Movie Maker, only thing wrong is that WMM doesn't let you edit mp4 videos. FML.

I refuse to pay for a video editing software, and so i'm looking for anything that is free, and that if i download it, it won't give me virus'. Please don't send converting site links to me because none of them truly work..they all have to have some 'codec'.... which means it's a load of bull.

windows movie maker, Video Cleaner, and a lot more. If I was you, then I would download limewire first then look for good softwares on google and download them from limewire, (tip: before you download any file from limewire check the size of the file only download if it looks realistic)

I need a software for editing video clips or creating video clips with pictures and songs.
It will also be better if it has the ability to sync the video with the audio I put.

I used to do this in windows movie maker in xp, but the audio wont always sync with the video, sometimes the audio comes 5 seconds away from the video.
I hope you guys understood what I asked.

If not, then here is an example,
my friends dance to a song and I record them through my mobile,
so I would put that video in the editor and add real mp3 or m4a or wav songs and sync it with the video.
More like making a music video.

It will be nice if I can edit the clips or audios too.

There have been two very good freeware editors recently released this year, FileLab and VSDC. Both should work with XP SP3 and your Inspiron.

FileLab is a freeware video editing program for just about all platforms (Mac, PC, etc...). I use it a lot to make YouTube videos. It runs in your browser using a simple plug-in download. It's also available as a free app on Facebook. It has many transition and video effects, very good title editor, and customized color correction to include brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, and gamma. VSDC is also freeware, but has much more advanced capabilities than FileLab, such as green screen! lots of video editors are committed to keep up
with the latest enhancements. That means the latest
DirectX, that immediately means XP is no longer catered for.

This gives you a problem in that you may need to look for OLD Versions.
You may also need to comply with minimum system specifications that
may not be achievable.

Probably the best i could recommend would be Corel VideoStudio x4
it can be picked up quite cheaply still. And should be just about
achievable on XP SP3 see min sys req in link below.

I don't know of a good free one but the two best would be Adobe Premiere and Sony Vegas now in my opinion if you are new get Sony vegas as it is easier to master and there are more tutorials round the net for this and it is better than premiere although some people would shoot me for saying that =] I would say download trials see which one you prefer follow some tutorials and make your own decision but those two are the best
