What is the best video editing software for PC?

I've used Pinnacle and Power Director a little. I've recorded with a HD camcorder(Cannon HV20). I want a good editing software that can handle HD video. I am comfortable working with titles, sound, transitions. I would rate myself intermediate when it comes to editing.

Windows Movie Maker is the free choice for video editing but isn't very good software. It constantly closes when your in the middle of something for no reason. CNET give's it a 1 star rating and doesn't recommend it for any user.

If you have a MAC, iMovie is pretty good. Final Cut Pro is what professionals use for commercials, movies, etc. However, this software is very expensive and only works on the MAC.
