I'm looking for a free video editing software that is somewhat helpful. Something more helpful than windows movie maker at least. I'm being general here but im not looking for much. It has to be a legal free download and i do not want a trial version.

There are not many video editing software that work well for free. "they are very limited" I know you don't want a trial version but if you need one for just a little bit adobe premier pro cs6 gives a 30 day trial and you can do anything the full one does. Its a really powerful program but takes a bit of learning.

Any will do.

If MovieMaker is not enough, speed the video as much as you can in MovieMaker. Export to a high quality video file. Import this to a new project. Speed it up. Do that as many times as you need to get the video to the speed you want.

Sony Vegas may allow a little easier time by allowing more "speed-up" in a single pass.
