I'm looking for a free video editing software that is somewhat helpful. Something more helpful than windows movie maker at least. I'm being general here but im not looking for much. It has to be a legal free download and i do not want a trial version.

There are not many video editing software that work well for free. "they are very limited" I know you don't want a trial version but if you need one for just a little bit adobe premier pro cs6 gives a 30 day trial and you can do anything the full one does. Its a really powerful program but takes a bit of learning.

I want to make some youtube videos, and I want to buy a good camera & a good video editing software.
Do you guys have any suggestions about cameras & video editing programs that work well with youtube?

You can make great videos with a webcam, as long as the content is great. If you want really good quality videos, then go with a HD camcorder of some kind, such as the Sony Handy HDR range. Although direct saving and upload won't appear in HD, using your video editing software you can trick YouTube into thinking your video is in HD which gives your videos a more professional look.
The best editing software to use are not free. If you want to pay for something and get good value for your money, go with Sony Vegas (9.0). It's by far one of the best and really easy to use. You CAN get away with using Windows Movie Maker, but it really won't give you the best edge for your videos.
Also, turn to your source. YouTube itself has some great videos for advice for making great YouTube videos.
