I have answered almost the exact same question more than once. When you searched for this question, before you posted, what did you learn? I have a FlipHD 4 GB camcorder and a Nikon L20. Both do video.?

Twister724

But my e-machine computer (single core) Celeron D 356 freaks out when I put 720p HD video into it. It freezes up and buffers and all the video looks jerky. A friend said a dual core processor will handle the video flawlessly, but I have my doubts. I would like to know what kind of laptop I need to produce movies in 720p that will be compatible with my FlipHd camcorder. I am presently at 32 bit, but up-graded to Windows 7 (64 bit)...it still didn't help. My processor is just too slow. I need suggestions as to what processor speed I need to guarantee smooth clear video when using editing software and effects and transitions. Thanx for your help.

What is some good video editing software?

Miguel Sal

I need it to edit my videos for youtube.

Answer
Taking pictures and video is so easy, especially with digital devices, that it doesn't take long to accumulate a lot of footage. Instead of keeping your videos and photos on a memory card or on your computer, you can create polished movies and slideshows to show off. This type of software makes it easy to trim portions of film at the front, end or in the middle. You can add music to videos and you can even add audio voice overs. Once you finish creating a great video, you can share it with others in a variety of ways including on Facebook.

After testing many video editing applications, we found Cyber Link Power Director, Corel Video Studio Pro X5 and Adobe Premiere Elements to be the best video editing software on the market. As you're considering all the things you can do with this software, you may want to read articles about video editing software to get additional ideas of creative projects.

Video editing software name?

LegendaryA

There´s a video editing software for newbies to this that already has its own muzzles, blood spatters, sound effects, fire etc included. Would someone know the name of this software because I´ve heard that my friends saw it a used it just for fun, but the more I search the more time I lose because I can´t find it and my friends won´t remember the name. So I´m very curious any ideas?

Please don´t tell me software like Adobe, Magix, Sony Vegas because I already have them. I may think it´s something not very common

Answer
The top-ranked video edting software for PC:Ulead Video Studio, Adobe Premiere Elements and SonyVegas. But I think they are recommended for experienced users,it does take some learning and much more expensive.
If you are looking for something advanced but still user friendly with reasonable price,I will recommend DVD Slideshow Builder. Very easy to use with professional features and same sort of layout as Movie Maker however a lot more powerful.

What Laptop brand should I get, and why?

AllisonC

I like to do video editing (like Movie Maker, Windows Movie Maker, etc...) and go on internet and all. But What brand is the best for that?

Answer
Hello,

Just as you posted your question.
It isn't about what make. Its what you want to do with it.
You want the software packages that go with a laptop.

Mac is a make and an operating system, and very good at multimedia.
But for some interesting information go to http://www.youtube.com/ and do a search on Hackintosh. Else you can just click here @ http://www.youtube.com/results?feature=moby&search_query=Hackintosh&search_type=&aq=f

hackintosh and FlashPlayer?

BabaSai

I know there's a lot of hatred for FlashPlayer streaming videos making the web browsers crash. I wondered if that is because of mac hardware only, or if mac software?

In other words, does a hackintosh ("pc" hardware running mac software) have the same problems as a full mac system?

Answer
Yes, and they have additional problems.

Although I haven't had any problems with flash yet myself :/ Even if it drains my laptop's battery like mad.

EDIT: Just looked up this issue, it only occurs on some versions of flash. And the issues have been resolved as of the recent flash release.

video editing software?

girly#1

I have a jvc everio HD video camera. I do a lot of video editing on windows movie maker 2.6, which is what I use most of the time. I also have windows live movie maker, but it doesn't have some of the stuff that the other does. The windows movie maker 2.6 doesn't support the type of video. I was wondering what type of video editing software supports AVCHD Video (.MTS) on a sdhc card. Can anyone help me out? I dont know if this is enough info..

Answer
Cyberlink Power Director. You may not need the ultra version which is basically for producing blue ray dvd I think. Before you use any video editing software be sure your computer meets the requirements. This page has a requirements tab.

There are others I just happen to use this one.

Is Apple MacBook Pro "Core i5" 2.53 17" Mid-2010 a good laptop for video editing?

smplytffny

These are the specs
Processor:2.53 Hz Intel Core i5
RAM: 4 GB DDR3
Memory Speed: 1066 MHz
Hard Drive: 500 GB Serial ATA
Graphics Coprocessor:Intel HD Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M
Chipset Brand: NVIDIA
Card Description: GeForce GT 330M
Graphics Card Ram Size: 512 MB

Or should I invest in a newer MacBook Pro? If so, any suggestion?
It is a gift for someone. They are set on getting a MacBook so they can familiarize themselves with the apple system and use learn to use Final Cut.
This model is discontinued so the laptop will be bought as it. Unless you can upgrade the ram by bringing it in to the store? (I'm not very knowledgable in this field)

Answer
It's so-so, RAM is low

If you aren't required to use Apple software, you could buy a Windows 7/8 laptop for $800 that will perform the same or better than a $1600 Mac

EDIT: As far as the RAM goes, you'd have to Google the exact model specs (or logon to crucial.com and run their free scan). Most laptop models that come with 4 GB of RAM are upgradeable to 8, but some aren't

What is a good laptop for video editing?

Tyler Mcdo

I am a film student, edit videos all of the time on my laptop. But my laptop isn't meant for editing, barely gets the job done at times. Saving up some money now and looking to get a new laptop. I need a laptop with 8GB of RAM, around 600GB hard drive, good graphics card and either i5 or i7 processor. Hoping to pay anywhere from $700 to in the early $1000. I've been looking, and I've found a couple Asus models I like, but I'm still looking and asking around. If anyone knows of a laptop, or even a brand that is reliable for video editing and some video games as well, I'd really appreciate any assistance very much. Also, if anyone can convince me to use a Mac, try, 'cause I'm kind of starting to like the sound of a Mac. Just hard because I've always used Windows. Thank you!!

Answer
Dell Inspiron 17R N7010 17 Laptop i5-460M 4GB 500GB HD.The computer comes with a Getting Started type of manual that's quite thorough for that purpose. There is no expanded user manual, but there is a repair manual available online. The machine is 64-bit operating system capable, but how well that works, depends upon implementation. The laptop has a port for an analog monitor. It also has an HDMI port for direct, external display. This computer has a simple method to switch displays between a TV/amplifier/receiver/projector, computer, or both. For full HDMI resolution you need to switch to projection eg TV only. The 17" maximum screen resolution is 1600 x 900 and restricts the size when simultaneously sending a signal to its screen and the TV.

Answer
How about three very good freeware video editor programs, Freemake, FileLab, or VSDC? Each is safe, fully functioning, no watermarks, will not ask for money, and are recent releases that are HD capable.

VSDC Example
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luyOn5DdUZs

FileLab Example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYbAe-mUscs

Freemake Example:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6tPMPhaM7A

Freemake provides merging of video clips, and simple editing such as cutting and splicing. It will also automatically upload your video to YouTube if desired (and download videos from YouTube also). It is also capable of converting your video to just about any video format in existence. FileLab has much more features, such as color correction, title editor, and special effects. FileLab also runs on both PC's and Macs (no-kidding)! VSDC is an advanced editor, capable of effects such as green screen editing. The following link has more info, but make sure to also view other articles on this site, as they outline other capabilities of these three programs.:

What are the best specs for a Laptop if used for audio and video editing ?

Nevermind7

Here's the thing: It's seems my father is going to get me a laptop since my desktop is...well, it's a piece of crap, DDR1 512, just start by that. So the thing is, when my parents actually decide to get me something, it's a one time thing, at least for the rest of the century, so I need to make sure I select the best I can. I know the basics about computers but I need some help, I need specs. I need to know what's considered standard nowadays and what would be the best I can ask for within a reasonable price, what I mean is if I had a million dollars of course I could get a super computer, but I don't have a million dollars..
So, cut to the chase. Although I'm getting the laptop because I need it for school right now, for my thesis and general work since it's a lot easier to work from the bed or to simply go straight to school with the laptop... I'm also planning on using it for video and audio editing. My old desktop is really having a hard time running my DAW and video editor.
On my free time I used Sonar 7 producer edition to record my songs, sometimes it takes a lot of tracks and effects so I need the computer to be able to handle all of that without freezing or crashing like my old desktop does, I need it to be able to multitask and run smoothly.
I also make videos for this songs, sometimes I even record the songs on Sony Vegas through videos. What I mean by this is that I record a video of me singing and playing, then I record several other videos of the instruments that I want to add, I do this through my webcam directly into Sony Vegas and this puts a lot of work on the computer, like I said before my old desktop has a HARD time doing this. My mother's laptop which is DDR3 2GB intel core i3 sort of does the job but at times you can tell it's hard for it.
Besides this I also need it to have a good soundboard, my mother's laptop soundboard sucks so I can't really edit audio the way I'd like to. And I'd rather have it integrated in the laptop than having to go buy a external one.
Also I'd like to eventually be able to use other video editing softwares like Adobe AE. Basically lots of multimedia. So I was hoping someone you could advice me, tell me what would be the best option for a laptop given the work it will have to deal with. Thank you very much !
Oh and by the way, apple is not an option. Just regular laptops, or even better (I think) the specs I should ask for in this said laptop my father is planning to buy since I'm supposed to message him with the details of what the laptop needs to have. Don't be affraid of leaving several options since prices may vary.
Again thnak you very much!

Best Laptop for Video Editing?

Becky

Hello! I edit videos with anime using programs like Sony Vegas and photoshop. But I am currently looking for a new laptop. But also stylish enough to use for school cus I don't edit 24/7 xD

Here are some preferred specs

64 bit windows 7 or 8

13 or 15 inch with 1920x1080p display (now I know a bigger screen is better for editing but I'm not really a big fan of that look and it's also a bit bulky)

8 gb RAM or higher, those programs take up alot of space!

At least 500 gb hard drive. Totally willing to sacrifice storage for speed.

i7 core processor

And I guess that's about it.

Some links to websites would be helpful! My budget is up to the $1000 range a litte bit over is no problem ;D

Brand buying advise

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down. What cost you less today is going to cost you more tomorrow.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. Lenovo will not allow people to read instruction on how to access the BIOS menu or to get info on their puters on their web site unless you connect to them thru Facebook. They do this so they can spy on their users. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate.

Choose wisely.

Is this a decent laptop to edit videos with...I am using Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0?

Anti-Smoke

I am using this laptop for the sole purpose of editing videos.

I shoot with a Sony Mini-DV camcorder (none of that HD stuff) and use a firewire to transfer video, to mantain good quality.

I am doing all my editing on my friend's laptop, it is a Compaq Presario V6444US notebook and so far I have fallen in love with this machine. Here are the specs:

Microprocessor - 2.0 GHz Intel Centrino® Duo processor technology featuring Intel Core Duo processor T2450

Microprocessor Cache - 2 MB L2 Cache

Memory - 2048 MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)

Memory Max - 2048 MB max supported

Video Graphics - Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950

Video Memory - Up to 128 MB (shared)

Hard Drive - 120 GB (5400 RPM) Hard Drive (SATA)

Multimedia Drive LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support

Display - 15.4" WXGA High-Definition BrightView Widescreen (1280 x 800) Display

It runs on Windows XP Pro (a godsend), is this a good PC for what I need?
Please don't suggest me buying another brand of laptop! Just tell me if the specs on this one would fit my needs for video editing with Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0.

Answer
Yes it would work fine.
But depending on the quality of the videos that you are editing, it may take them a while to render with the video graphics on that computer. You may want to look at something with a slightly better graphics card. Intel cards in laptops are the bottom-line, just something for a normal, every-day user.
All the other specs look great, 2 gigs of ram is plenty (especially for windows xp), and the processor will work great for what you are doing.
Compaq is a decent brand (made by HP), but not known for their great performance. Most of them tend to be used as more of a desktop replacement laptop, than a lightweight portable solution. If this is what you are looking for, and the price is decent, I'd say go for it.

I'm going to be a freshmen in college and I'm in search of a good portable laptop.
Preferably a PC but I'm okay with a Mac.
Any good lightweight/portable laptops for an on-the-go college student like me?

P.S It's not necessary but a color laptop would be cool :3

Oh! I won't be doing any gaming or video editing on it. Just normal stuff like browsing the web and using Microsoft Word and stuff.

Answer
Here is the problem. Most of the thin and light laptops out there are not robust and strong enough to take the handling. They break when dropped and all the money out the door.
MAC is expensive for what you get, and they still break easy. Even with their cool factor.
Got that bunch of money? An X1 carbon fiber laptop:

MacAir vs X1, just looking, and left out the fingerprint reader

Better keyboard, better screen, more robust than a MacAir.
If you can't afford it, go for a 5 pound 15.6" Samsung and keep it in a carry case
Or, go for a cheaper one and don't drop it.

Laptop for video editing?

thompsonch

I am currently getting into 3d art and video editing. I am going to use such programs as premiere and after effects cs3 or cs4. The problem is, everybody tells me to go mac. I cannot afford a mac. I have been looking and there are windows computers with higher specs for 1/3 of the price of the macbok pro. What laptop should i get that will make rendering video a breeze and will have unlimited speed. i am currently looking at these specs

2.5-3.0 GHZ procesor
dual core processor
4 gb ram
a video card that can handle blue ray quality
and at least 200 gb hardrive.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
The Acer Aspire Gemstone Blue 8930G is the best option.
*Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 (Centrino 2)
*4 GB RAM
*640GB HDD
*Blu Ray
*Worlds first full HD Laptop

Good laptop for Video editing?

Jesus

What is a good laptop for video editing? I recently had mine stolen and I wanted to know what specs are best? Other than lots of RAM

All under a fare price Im on a budget.
If you know any way to make a custom one please describe thank you so much!

( I know Laptops aren't the best for editing but I like the portable aspect of it )

Answer
For video editing, you need to look for a laptop that has the following:

1. Dedicated GPU(video card)

Without a dedicated GPU, video editing will be very difficult and slow. ALWAYS buy a laptop with a dedicated GPU. In most laptops you can upgrade the RAM and CPU, but the GPU is either soldered to the motherboard or is manufactured differently for each model.

2. RAM

8gb should be fine, just so long as your not dealing with resolutions greater than 1080p. Not as important as having a dedicated GPU, but still a necessity if you plan on doing any kind of video editing or 3D modeling. My advice to you, is to purchase a less expensive laptop, and just upgrade the RAM. It's a lot cheaper, and you get to chose your own manufacturer and memory configuration.

3. SSD

Not a necessity, but loading your OS onto an SSD will dramatically shorten boot/shutdown times, and give your OS system a noticeable speed boost.

4. CPU

Last, but not least is the CPU. If you plan on doing any serious video editing, you will need at least a second generation i3 or better. Word of warning though: STAY AWAY FROM AMD MOBILE CPUs!!. You might be able to get an AMD quad-core for the price of an Intel dual-core i3, but since most programs aren't optimized to run on multiple threads, you will just end up with 4 cores, and a slow computer.

i need a good video editing software?

Scott

I am looking for a video editor that matches a few criteria
1. i need to be able to put in two videos side by side to stream at the same time.
2. i would like to be able to split a video for jump cuts and edits
3. i need it to be user friendly.
I would like to be able to download it off the internet

Answer
There are two very good free video editor programs out there, FileLab, and VSDC. Each is safe, fully functioning, no watermarks, will not ask for money, and are recent releases that are HD capable.

FileLab has plenty of features, such as color correction, title editor, and special effects. FileLab also runs on both PC's and Macs (no-kidding)!

VSDC is an advanced editor, capable of effects such as green screen editing.

Answer
Hello friend, There are some excellent software especially for YouTube editing. They are,

1. Pinnacle Studio 16 Ultimate
With an attractive interface, a multitude of video effects and the ability to upload directly to Facebook, Vimeo, Box and YouTube, Pinnacle Studio has long been a favorite in video editing. While it is one of the more expensive options in this list, and it doesnât have 4K UHD support, Pinnacle serves as a nice middle-ground option for those who arenât slackers in the video editing department, but who havenât reached pro status just yet.

2. AVS Video Editor
Packed with more than 670 transitions and effects, 46 text options and 34 templates for disc menus, AVS is surprisingly simple to use and customize. Users need only drag and drop the desired effect into place.Editing videos is quick and easy, and AVS supports multiple formats, such as HD, MPEG, AVI, WMV, QuickTime, Adobe Flash, mobile video, Real Networks and WebM files, among others.

3. Adobe Premiere Elements 11
Those used to the Adobe Suite will instantly recognize this familiar setup. Version 11 of Adobe Premiere Elements comes with new effects, such as cinematic FilmLooks, slow motion and speeding up. Elements takes the best features of Adobeâs professional version of the software, Premiere Pro, and makes them simplified and user friendly.

4. Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3
Appleâs revamped video editing software boasts speedier performance, a friendlier interface, auditions for alternate clips, good organization tools, powerful new multicam support and support for both Thunderbolt and studio-monitor output. While you canât import projects from previous Final Cut versions without a third-party plugin, this new software is a consumer-friendly upgrade to a pro-level Mac editor.

AMD 6970m Crossfire? *drools*

That will run most games maxed out, and will be overkill for any video editing software. Compared to a Mac (as mentioned by another person), that laptop will out preform a top of the line MacPro (desktop)

9.9/10

However, this laptop, upgraded with Nvidia 485 SLI would be even stronger (10/10)

Which Desktop Replacement Laptop Do You Recommend?

fun_to_tra

I'm looking to get a windows 7 laptop. I currently have a 2011 MBP 15" 2.2 i7 with 8GB Ram & 80GB SSD.

I've been needing to use windows more and more (for heavy tasks, not good for virtual machines), and have a cheapo laptop that I use, but now I want to maybe make windows my primary laptop and want a really good one.

What I want to use it for: Multiple and massive excel spreadsheets open at once, copying and pasting tens of thousands of rows between them, two browsers open with multiple tabs each, FTP program and editing html, general web browsing and a lot of multitasking etc.

Requirements:

Atleast 8GB ram (I can add myself), and prefer upgradable to 12 or 16.
15"-17" screen
Great keyboard and trackpad
Great Screen
i7 processor
Blu ray drive, or one that I could swap out for a BD drive
SSD, hybrid or one I could swap out
HDMI out
Nice looking

I don't play games but I do watch videos on the laptop via youtube/hulu, netlfix etc when traveling.

Budget $2000.

Recommendations?

Thanks!

Answer
Best ones you will be able to get,

Either SAGER or FALCON NORTHWEST. (someone may say alienware, but no thats dell & they are bad ever since takeover)

xoticpc has the best selection, itll run you around 1400~1600 for a fully loaded top-of-the-line SAGER (German build quality = amazing) or an American company, Falcon Northwest operates off their own site.

I'm new to this, in fact pretty much just got the idea in my head. So if this is already avaliable on youtubes editing software please tell me how to do this. Also if you have any links to good editing software please leave them down below. Thanks!

Answer
there are some good free programs,

Windows movie make for simple stuff

Blender (which is the best 3d program that is free btw) that has some video editing capabilites
also they have 3d tracking under development.

Lightworks which is similiar to after effects, use to have to pay fot his but the company recenlty made it free.

i recomend haveing both blender and lightworks so you can bring your stuff into blender add some 3d tracking and add a 3d model of watever than bring it in to lioghtworks and add some color correction and you music and watever. I have both after effects and 3ds max but also use blender and lightworks.

good luck

alienware m14x-r2 - video editing?

Russell Di

looking at getting a portable editing machine to take to uni with me and i've been looking at the alienware m14x-r2 (specs at bottom of page), and i was wondering if a 768p 14" screen is good enough to use softwares like premier pro cs6, after effects cs6, maya, 3ds max and mudbox on with the screen size creating any issues for me

i7 3720qm 2.6ghz (turbo 3.6ghz)
12gb ram
500gb 7200rpm HDD
GT 650m 2gb GDDR5 graphics
1366x768 14" HD monitor

Answer
yes, the i7 3720qm is a quad-core processor that best for video editing program. Also the GT 650m is an extreme graphic card that good for rendering/graphic demanding process. That means this M14x should run premier pro cs6, after effects cs6, maya, 3ds max and mudbox smoothly.

Best Laptop for Video Editing?

Leo

So I have been saving up money for a new laptop for awhile now and am looking to invest it in the best possible laptop for primarily video editing. Currently my laptop has plenty of memory and ram but the processor is only at 1.5 GHz and is an HP Laptop. I think that there's intel processor's with a 3.6 Ghz and wondering if I should try for something like that? Or if there is a specific laptop or even just a laptop that has the compatibility to upgrade to a higher processor like that it would be great.

The use would involve heavy RAW filed photo and video editing along with special effects design and music editing.
Thank you.

Answer
You need something with a good processor, and a ***tload of RAM.

Look for:
i7-3610QM, i7-3630QM, i7-3840QM
16GB+ RAM
Graphics card doesn't matter.
256GB+ Solid State Drive

You didn't list your budget, but this build could easily cost upwards of $1500 or more.

I rarely say this on YAnswers, but a desktop is a more practical solution for heavy video editing if you want it done fast.
Disregard that if you really want a laptop.

What Laptop is Best for Video Editing?

Sir_Knows_

I'm becoming more and more interested in video editing, so I personally would like to get a laptop(no matter what the price) that would both perform great for video editing and also for everyday needs(internet and typing). Any brand of laptop would be great! Thanks!

Answer
Buying a laptop is a complicated decision which will probably affect you daily for the next few years.

In addition to price and specs, you want to consider things such as ease-of-use, speed, reliability, stylish-design and tech-support.

Different people would have different opinions.

Therefore, I would recommend you to check ProCompare.com (http://www.procompare.com/top/Notebooks). They have a recommendation engine that ranks laptops and other tech products based on ratings and reviews from a community of trusted IT professionals. They also have a cool personalization slider that lets you personalize the results based on the criteria that are most important to YOU.

What's a good, downloadable video-editing software for PCs?

rachel

Does anyone know of any good video-editing software(s) for PCs? Preferably for free download. I realize this might be a little unrealistic but I'd like to know if anyone is familiar with one. I'd like to be able to trim videos, add text/images without cutting away from the actual video, and be able to add narration over video/images. I also realize that a Mac is a little more geared toward this sort of thing, but I really like my Toshiba and I'm not about to go out of my way to get a whole new laptop just for the sake of video-editing.

Thanks
