Need a new video editing software?

Mary Jane

I currently own sony vegas movie studio HD platinum and it hasn't really done it for me because it takes soooooooooooooooo long to render.
So, I decided to lower my standards and use WMM (Windows Movie Maker). Everything was going along fine until I decided to import audio onto it and it crashed.
This is the second time this happens and I always end up losing everything I just edited.
Is there any other FREE video editing software like WMM? (being able to cut clips, add titles, add media, etc.)
All help is appreciated!

Answer
Lightworks would be my choice. Look at the site below and find the free ones.

Good Video Editing Software?

Gmaniac

We are doing a project in my AP US history class that requires us to make a video detailing the events of a certain topic. The videos are ususally funny. Anyways my group is doing the Bay of Pigs Invasion (in case you do not know what that is click here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bay_of_Pigs_Invasion ) and we want to know some software in which we can make some funny effects on the video we will take. Like one we want to do for sure is to take an interview we did with our english teacher and incorporate it into the battle scene. We aren't sure how to do this though, we tried with Window's Movie Maker, but that has failed. If you could please tell us a good software to use for video editing that would be great. Its ok if it costs money (we will probably use it again in the future anyways), but if its free thats usually better. A guide to learning the ins and outs of the program are also appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
I have used a few video editing programs and the easiest one has been DVD Slideshow Builder. Very easy to use with professional features and same sort of layout as Movie Maker however a lot more powerful. Everything is laid out in an easy to follow step by step instruction.
Highlights:
Edit photos and videos with built-in tools, like crop, rotate, apply effects, etc
One-click to auto-synchronize video and audio

How do you make videos with split-screens?

Q. Sorry if that's not what they're called, I'm not an expert on this.
Example: http://www.youtube.com/nerimon#p/a/31295367A4733F19/1/2o5_WPB0d_4

How would you make a video like that? Thanks

Answer
It all depends on what type of video editing software you use. For example I have used Final Cut Pro and you can split screens in that program.

You create a split screen film with your video editing software.

Anyone know any free good editing softwares

Answer
May I suggest three very good free video editor programs, Freemake, FileLab, or VSDC? Each is safe, fully functioning, no watermarks, will not ask for money, and are recent releases that are HD capable. Some even have green-screen (chroma key) and split-screen (picture in picture) editing. Take your pick:

Please also view a bit of the following YouTube videos edited with the above programs. They may help you decide:

Video editing software?

My friend has Pinnacle Studio HD, which we use to edit, and I am going to by my own software soon. There are a lot of things I don't like a bout Pinnacle, and I'm hoping to upgrade. I've done some research but I really want people's opinions on what software I should get.
I would like something around $150 or less.

Can you recommend a professional easy-to-use video editing software?

Steven

I really want something like Final Cut Pro X but unfortunately I don't have Mac so it has to be for Windows. Also, I would like it to be user friendly like FCPX so I can easily make transitions, effects and fades. Some key features I want, is multicam so I can have some gameplay footage while I'm talking and also the ability to make a picture on a video, like putting a picture of a game on the right hand corner. And some good text presets.
Thanks,

Answer
I recommend Camtasia.

http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.html

It's a video recording software primarily. It has some video editing features which are basic and can be used professionally. Don't get me wrong, this is not the best software for creating video effects, transitions, etc. This is mainly for making gameplay videos. You can cut clips and record your voice along with it.

I am not too familiar with it but if the "studio" or video editing features is not enough check out Sony Vegas. That is one of the best video editing software out there.

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegassoftware

These are the best ones to get through buying them or using other means o.< but if you want a FREE ONE, I recommend using Ezvid:

Good luck. Have a good one.

What is the best video editing software for everything???????????

Answer
For everything? Probably After Effects.

This question is kind of a mixed bag.
You see, video editing software comes
in different flavors pending functionality.

Want to add graphics and effects?
After Effects.

Editing video clips?
Premier Pro.

Graphics, effects, editing, AND 3D?
I'm going to get thumbs down for this one,
but BLENDER does all three. And it's FREE!

Video making/editing software?

Blue

One thing that's come to be a passion of mine is making usic. I'd like to make videos where I can have multiple shots going at once. For example, if I were to take a video of me tapping a pencil on a desk, another shaking a salt shaker, and a third dropping a penny, and then taking all of them and putting them together at the same time to make a beat. Do you know of any good, free software out there that will do this? (That doesn't give computer viruses or anything like that). Thank you:)
I have a PC:)

Answer
Here's a list of some of the free ones:

Windows Movie Maker -- WMM is already installed on computers that are running Windows XP and Vista. But if you have Vista or 7, you can use the latest version:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/movie-maker-get-started

You may add 3rd party effects that don't come with the WLMM with this:
http://www.thefxarchive.com/index.php?category=WLMM_2011

VirtualDub -- may lack the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. You can take a captured clip, trim the ends, clean up some of the noise, convert it to the proper frame size, and write out a better one. Remove and replace audio tracks without touching the video. It has extensive video filter set, including blur, sharpen, emboss, smooth, 3x3 convolution, flip, resize rotate, brightness/contrast, levels, deinterlace, and threshold.
http://www.virtualdub.org

Avidemux -- a free video editor designed for simple cutting, filtering and encoding tasks. Trim, add filters and even encode video. You can remove the audio portion of a video file, or remove the video portion and retain the audio part, among others. You can even reformat and resize your videos. It's a great and effective free video editing software for those who havenât obtained much, if any, experience in video editing.
http://avidemux.sourceforge.net

Blender -- a 3D graphics video creation program which hosts a variety of features. These include modeling, animation, rendering, post-production and real-time interactive 3D, as well as game creation.
http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/

Zwei-Stein -- a great free video editing software, but the user interface is very technical. It is full featured, offering many different effects. There are up to 64 effects, which can be chained serially.
http://www.thugsatbay.com/tab/?q=zweistein

Wax -- a high performance and flexible free video editing software program, good for both home users and professionals. It can create 2D & 3D special effects and can work in two modes - as a standalone application which would appeal for home users/beginners, and as a "plug-in" to video editors/NLEs which would be more useful for professional editors.

Best laptop for video editing?

Q. I am in desprate need of a new laptop and my video editing sucks right now. I have a Dell and I use Windows Movie Maker and it is awful. I need a new laptop that has a great webcam and great for video editing. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Answer
This MSI laptop should be more than good enough for anything you'll ever need it to do.

Intel Core i5-2410M 2.3GHz Dual Core CPU
4GB DDR3 RAM
500GB Hard Drive
nVIDIA GeForce GT520M 1GB Dedicated Graphics

£515

If thats alittle overkill for what you need then here is a cheaper one that is still pretty decent.

Intel Core i3-2310M 2.1GHz Dual Core
4GB DDR3 RAM
320GB Hard Drive
Intel HD2000 Graphics

£420

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Laptops/Laptops/MSI+CR640-020+15.6%22+SandyBridge+Laptop+%5BCR640-020UK%5D+?productId=46941

Both laptops have an integrated camera.

which dell laptop is best for video editing and graphics purpose?

Suman

I am searching a laptop for video editing and graphics job. Also i want to do compilation of software and web development job through laptop. I need a such type of laptop of DELL company. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Suman,

As you want to use the system for video editing and graphics intensive applications, I would suggest that you order a system with discrete video card, or better still, one with NVidia Optimus or AMD Switchable Graphics technology, that can utilize both integrated and discrete Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). This would allow you to use the discrete GPU for graphic intensive applications and integrated one for normal use to save power. The system should also have a good processor and maximum possible memory.

As you would be using the system for work, getting a Solid State Drive (SSD) instead of a regular hard drive would also be a great idea. SSD does not have moving parts like a conventional hard drive, and therefore, is less prone to failure, providing better data safety.

A custom configured Dell XPS would be my choice for the job. You may look for, customize and order a Dell laptop on the following link:

Hope this helps.

Are alienware laptops good for editing video also?

Dave

Life for YouTube?

Answer
lewis is COMPLETELY wrong. Alienware IS made by dell, but gaming laptops have different design objectives than mainstream or media centric computers. Dells ARE more reliable than industry standard and alienware are even better. they are designed by engineers as gaming machines, they use cherry picked parts, the employees on the line are the cream of the crop and they are assembled on a line with very low quota so the employee can do it RIGHT. Ever see that old episode of i love lucy where she is assembling chocolate boxes. That's what a "line" is like. The parts come down, and you'd BETTER be ready or you can look for a new job. Alienware employees don't have that pressure.

Parts from one brand to another are NOT the same. A core i7 from compaq is NOT the same as core i7 to the public, to dell and to alienware. When a chip is fabed, there is a HUGE quality difference based on where it is on the wafer, what fab it came out of, who was he tech, how recently the baths had been refreshed. The subcontractor AND the OEM both know this. When an OEM buys a hundred thousand chips, he can specify what level of defects he is willing to put up with, what the variance of spec is and can impose a penalty on defects. Each time we pull a consumer unit, or repair it in the wild, it costs a MINIMUM of $200 so dells philosophy is to pay more up front, get better parts, and pay less for repairs. Another famous company has the exact opposite philosophy. They think, "get it out there cheap, if it does after the warranty period, that's not our problem".
If YOU were the subcontractor, would you send the better parts to the guy who will pay you more but has strict penalties for bad parts OR would you send the good parts to the guy who pays you less, but does NOT care about quality? I'd send the crummy parts to the guy who pays less and doesn't care about quality. More profit.

Alienware would be great for editing video, it is even good enough to edit PROFESSIONAL video, even though a desktop would be much better.
But you do NOT need to spend that much to edit consumer video. For youtube video you can use ANY brand even the acer the other guy mentioned. If you want to edit semi pro video, say you have a business doing wedding videos, I'd look at dellXPS, asus, msi, lennovo, toshiba compaq.Even within those brands there are certail models that are media or gaming models. If you are making pro video, I'd go with the same brands, but again, I'd use a desktop.

Laptop for video editing & gaming?

Award Winn

I am currently searching for a Laptop which I can use for video editing and gaming.
I am very selective mind you so I'm not after something which can handle high performance on the latest games. I merely want a PC laptop which can handle Sims 3, Oblivion (modded) and Civilization 4 (Rise of Man Mod) and I find it hard to understand graphic card names.

I've already been researching for durable laptops, Dell being the worse, Toshiba I know being okay as I sat on mine enough to cup it and it still works, but I want something that wont burn out and everything is pointing to a 'Thinkpad'.

These are a few of the links I have found, I viewed a few of Yahoo Answers so I started looking for Intel, hope I found some but I want someone's advice who understands these specks more then I do. To me these are just a lot of numbers and letters but I'm guessing I want more then 2 GB ram, over 250 GB space though I'd rather have 500, sound is not a problem that's what earphones are for, it wont be on the internet, Windows 7 unless I find it has problems emulating XP for games like Quake or System Shock 2.

Ya don't need to read everything, but I'm looking forward to receiving some responses from you guys :) If I left anything out do let me know so I can repost this with better efford, once again thanks for reading and am looking forward to hearing from you :)

Answer
If I was to choose those i would choose the first one.

http://www.ballicom.co.uk/new-products/lenovo-thinkpad-edge-15-0301--core-i5-430m-226-ghz--156-tft.p513227.html

I would choose it because it has a intel core i5 processor and it looks like it has turbo boost. That would make your video editing and gaming go faster, along with your computing experience.

Also it has intel HD Graphics, that would be good for a smooth gaming experience and also be good for smooth video editing as well.

What is the best desktop computer for video editing?

ThouArtFoo

I am a ninth grade filmmaker but I do not own my own desktop computer. I do not want to get a laptop because there will be a large difference with the storage (ie; 1 TB vs 500 GB). I also will be using it with Adobe Creative Cloud (hopefully) and in addition, I want it to be able to do the normal things I need for school like writing papers and web browsing. I will not build one. It has to be already made. Also I want to know how it compares to the iMac and the Dell XPS . Thanks for any help :)

Necessities

1 TB of storage
Preferably under $1000
Absolute maximum is $2900
Good for editing HD Video
Intel i5 or i7

What's the best free software for home video editing?

luvladyblu

I'm trying to add caption, music and the occasional photo to my videos without the audio stopping. What software is the easiest to use and is free to download?
it needs to be compatible with Windows 2000. ~Thanks

Answer
Windows Movie Maker is the free choice for video editing but isn't very good software. It constantly closes when your in the middle of something for no reason. CNET give's it a 1 star rating and doesn't recommend it for any user.

Top 3 choices in video editing on the PC:

1) Adobe Premiere Elements

2) Ulead Video Studio
http://www.ulead.com/vs/runme.htm

3) Sony Vegas

You can download a free trial of the software mentioned above. If your looking for a list of free video editing software, take a look at my source below.

Answer
Hey Domino,

I would recommend trakAxPC Pro, which is a great new audio and video editing software package and is designed for novices but includes advanced features. It is extremely user-friendly and allows you to be creative using any combination of media, be it audio, video or photos.

It's an all-in-one multimedia editing suite and will allow you to directly upload your final video mix to YouTube from the application. You can also save your final video mix to file formats such as wmv, mp4, etc so you can play it on different media devices such as iPhone, iPod, PSP etc.

It's free to try for 30 days and thereafter costs only $24.95. You can continue to use in free mode if you haven't purchased after 30 days, however the Pro features are disabled.

If you want to learn more about the features, click the link below:

Best Video Editing Software?

Mike

Does anybody know any good editing software? Not too expensive? I currently use Adobe After Effects and Windows Movie Maker.

Answer
Hello friend, There are some excellent video editing software other than adobe after effects and windows movie maker. You can try below given ones.

1. Avidemux
Avidemux is a small but capable open source video editor which can help you join clips, cut them (without re-encoding), and apply a lengthy list of useful filters (Add Logo, Crop, Flip, Rotate, Resize, Sharpen, Remove Noise, tweak brightness, contrast colours and more).

2. Pinnacle Studio 16 Ultimate
With an attractive interface, a multitude of video effects and the ability to upload directly to Facebook, Vimeo, Box and YouTube, Pinnacle Studio has long been a favorite in video editing. While it is one of the more expensive options in this list, and it doesnât have 4K UHD support, Pinnacle serves as a nice middle-ground option for those who arenât slackers in the video editing department, but who havenât reached pro status just yet.

3. AVS Video Editor
Packed with more than 670 transitions and effects, 46 text options and 34 templates for disc menus, AVS is surprisingly simple to use and customize. Users need only drag and drop the desired effect into place.Editing videos is quick and easy, and AVS supports multiple formats, such as HD, MPEG, AVI, WMV, QuickTime, Adobe Flash, mobile video, Real Networks and WebM files, among others.

4. Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3
Appleâs revamped video editing software boasts speedier performance, a friendlier interface, auditions for alternate clips, good organization tools, powerful new multicam support and support for both Thunderbolt and studio-monitor output. While you canât import projects from previous Final Cut versions without a third-party plugin, this new software is a consumer-friendly upgrade to a pro-level Mac editor.

How to convert .mov to .avi? Or video editing software that accept .mov?

glamourgir

I recently bought a Canon Powershot SX40 HS to take pictures/record video with. When I uploaded the footage, it came up as an MVI ____.MOV file. Since Windows Movie Maker doesn't seem to be accepting these kinds of files, how can I convert them? I've googled and tried out a few different softwares but they all make the videos shorter. Is there any free converting software that's available that doesn't cut down the video? Or is there any free video editing software that accepts these types of files? PLEASE HELP!

Answer
Clone2Go free video converter can convert MOV to AVI. And it can do some basic video edition as well, such as converting video files at a batch, trimming the video length and customizing the output profile. So you can have a try.

Were can I find Good Quality Free Video Editing Software?

lilrayner1

Im looking for some really good video editing software, I have Windows movie maker but im looking for something alot better than that. Anyone know of anything free? Please Help

Answer
Photobucket is a great web based and FREE editing tools. The software behind it comes from Adobe who make some of the best commercial ($$$) photo and video editors. Also check out Jaycut which allows you to export and save your videos! If you need/want more features downloading VideoSpin, VideoPad or VideoThang are great options. Still free, but you have to download the software. For under $100 you can buy Adobe Premiere Elements.

Good quality video editing software?

Matthew

Ok, so I am a teen who is obsessed with fitness and working out. I want to make a YouTube channel to motivate others, and i have a bunch of great ideas for workout videos. Now, I`ve heard that iMovie is good for quick video editing, but not good quality wise. Ive heard mixed reviews about Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Pro X. But those two programs are 300 bucks! Is it worth it? Im looking for a good editing software that can give great detail, audio, and visual effects. Are there any affordable ones out there, or should i suck it up and get Final Cut Pro? Please Help!!!!!!!

Answer
iMovie is free with Macs, so if your budget is constrained then your choice is pretty clear. Why not start with something free like iMovie and learn that? Then if you want to uplevel it, then buy Final Cut... or something else.

I don't know what you've heard, but I've heard nothing but good stuff about iMovie and the latest version is supposedly very close to Final Cut. It's supposedly much that it can be hard to use because it's so complex. And a good training program if you do go more advanced. I've used previous versions of iMovie and it is very simple, so maybe that is what you'd heard about. Check the more recent versions...

Also in the world of video editing, $300 is nothing. I'm surprised it's that cheap. If you haven't edited before, you will probably be overwhelmed with Final Cut. I know I have been and I'm used to timelines from Flash. It's pretty steep learning curve, especially with audio.

You are mostly going to be dealing with raw footage, and will need to design your title and end graphics. Maybe look at a resource that you can import and edit like something from videohive.com or pond5.com You can get an intro for like $15 and edit it with your workout video name in place of the filler text.

If you do decide to move on from iMovie, I've heard a lot of editors and producers say that Premiere and After Effects is a better combo, and Final Cut is slipping in popularity.

What is the best laptop for video editing?

Murilo

Ok, so I need a laptop for video editing for school, but I don't know which one to get. I need one with at least 2.4GHz, something with a RAM higher than 1.00 GB, and lots of memory. Please don't say "Don't get laptops, get a desktop..." because I already have a desktop great for video editing and now I need a laptop.
Please help.

Answer
Well.. this could help you narrow down your choices..

Get a laptop with a dual core processor that rates at least the speed you want there.
Get a laptop that has a video card with dedicated video memory, as opposed to one that uses shared video memory.

Now. I know you can read. You posted the question here. You know that 2.4ghz something means something, and you know how to spot that. You know how to spot RAM and the numbers that will be around it.

You are perfectly capable of looking YOURSELF for what you want. Why? Because any laptop you look at, will list it's processor speed (that 2.4ghz thingy), how much RAM it has (Yep... RAM=RAM. No big geek translator needed there) and more.

In short, if you want to act as knowledgeable as you are trying (I don't need a desktop for actual computing power. Got one. I want a laptop as powerful and versatile as a desktop. I just don't want to take the time to learn what "powerful" means) then start looking yourself.

Prepare to be disappointed. Few laptops are made to the specifications you are expecting (made for video editing in mind), and the ones that are, are not cheap.

Maybe you should look at a Sager. Completely custom laptops.
http://www.sagernotebook.com/default.php Go ahead and build yourself one there online. See how much it costs. Oh, and if you don't know what all these options and doodads and numbers mean... isn't it time you learned?

What would be the best laptop for video editing?

Joe E

I know this is a very general question, but in your opinion, what would be the best laptop for under $1300 that is good for video editing (I would also use it for school work, web browsing, movies and music)?
But couldn't I get a much better quality laptop with much better components thats not a mac for cheaper?

Answer
Well, I hear a lot of good about Apple, and I am sure they are good for video editing, but Mac's are generally expensive.

If you prefer to get a PC, I know the perfect one for you. It's an HP Pavilion dv6000 (also called the "HP Pavilion Entertainment PC"). It cost me $1209 with all tax, but included a free HP all-in-one printer (scanner, etc). There are many free inclusive programs. There is this one called Cyberlink Power Producer, it is by far the best I've used yet. I made a full DVD for my friend's birthday, with content about her. It has a full DVD menu, custom background of her & me, and I chose which scene I want on each page, and the style of buttons, etc. I even have background music on the menu. It allows me to make scenes, add subtitles, add transition effects, add audio, add music, add video, pictures, etc. You can even add effects such as snowfall, water rippling, and much much more. You can capture content directly from the program, as there is a built in webcam & microphones. You can even capture content from video cameras that are attached to the comp, it automatically detects theme. I honestly love this computer, and I look forward to producing even more videos. Even if you are just doing something simple, it can do it. It can extract audio from video too. Also, you can save as many file types, depending on what you are making (DVD video, data disc, etc.)

And the laptop has 250GB hard drive, and 3GM RAM, never lags, runs smooth. Also has a fingerprint scanner, works amazingly. My HP laptop is intended for my next 5 years of university, so I do expect it to last :) And it has many free programs, I still haven't tried them all yet.

What is a good free video editing software?

Xavier

I am currently using windows movie maker. Are there any other good free video editing software out there??

Answer
These two programs are light years ahead of Windows Movie Maker, in Video Editing Abilities. Takes a bit of work, but they are free.

Pinnacle Studio 14 HD Ultimate & Sony Vegas Pro 10

Screen Shot - http://asimplelife.ca/nle.html Upgrade your computer to AVCHD specs below and you can run both programs seen on my Web Page on your computer. Just Rejig the search term below in the YouTube search, from the instructions below.

This is not a program that can run on any computer, see below -

Minimum System Requirements

Windows® 7, Windows Vista® (SP2), or Windows XP (SP3)
Intel® Pentium® or AMD Athlon⢠1.8 GHz (2.4 GHz or higher recommended)
-Intel Core⢠2 Duo 2.4 GHz required for AVCHD*

DirectX® 9 or 10 compatible graphics card with 64 MB (128 MB or higher recommended)
-256 MB required for HD and AVCHD*
DirectX 9 (or higher) compatible sound card
3.8 GB of disk space
DVD-ROM drive to install software

Import Formats

⢠Audio: MP3, MPA, WAV, AC3*, WMA
⢠Graphic: BMP, GIF, JPG, PCX, PSD, TGA, TIF, WMF, PNG, J2K

If interested, links below takes you to the sites, but you can get these two programs for free. Do this by opening a web browser, surfing over to YouTube. Once there, in the search box on that site, enter 'Pinnacle Studio 14' or âSony Vegas Pro 10â. Youâre looking for free download, find a link or video that says that, in the video description, there will be link for a free download. Make sure, before you do this, to make sure your computer can meet or exceed those Specs above, and pay special attention to the AVCHD specs if you have or are going to get a HD camcorder.

A laptop running these Programs, when rendering say a 10 minute Video out, be prepared, render times could leave your laptop useless, while rendering for 4 or 5 days on that file. Besides you cannot upgrade a Laptop this way, so it unlikely these program will run on most Laptops.

Can I change the refresh rate on a laptop with 2 displays?

snorkersd

I have a Samsung Monitor hooked up to a HP latop using the extended display function so I can work on both screens.

Now i know the refresh rate on the laptop display can only be 60Hz, but is there a way to increase the refresh rate on the external Samsung monitor to 75Hz or even 100Hz?

Thx

Answer
Only if the monitor supports that refresh rate, and your video card can run different refresh rates on different monitors at the same time. If both screens are on at the same time, I suspect you will be somewhat limited to the lowest refresh rate of the two displays....

EDIT: I tried it with my 4870x2 video card and two displays, I can have one display at 60Hz, the other at 75Hz, so yes, it can be done - depending on video card...

Rate my laptop specs, please?

Brandyn

I have a TOSHIBA SATELLITE L840/02P. The specifications can be found at http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/satellite/l840/psk8la-02p007/specifications
What's your evaluation of this computer (for gaming, video editing, etc.)?

Answer
I do not know much about what video editing needs so I will rate each important component to the best of my ability (may be wrong).

CPU: I'm assuming 3.1 is overclocked and 2.5 is regular. I did research and it is dual core, which makes it slightly worse but for a laptop 7/10.
RAM: 8GB. Should be sufficient for almost anything so 9/10
Storage: Depends. Are you going to have a lot of stuff. 9/10
Graphics: AMD RADEON 7670M HD: Believe it or not i have this graphics card as one of my two, the other being INTEL HD4000 (which is meh). The AMD one (imo) is really good. I can run practically every game I have (skyrim in medium settings with 60 fps). I would give it an 8/10.

It is a good thing that this is Windows 7 if you game a lot because windows 8 has some compatibility problems. I personally do have windows 8 but I do not see them, but some people would argue compatibility problems exist.

In total: ~8-8.5/10. I have similar specs to which you have (ram and gpu) For gaming, you should be able to run 90% of games today with some exceptions. I do not know much about editing but it would probably be fine for that too. Hope I helped. Sorry for lots of text (I get bored)

what is the best computer for video editing?

Megz Luvzu

hey:) whats the best computer for editing "professional" videos?
and/or software?? thanks(:

P.S. also if you know any great cameras for filming(such as the canon 600D) i would appreciate other suggestions(:

Answer
Please stay away from Macs if all else fails... High performance desktops are a lot cheaper than laptops and I would recommend you get a gaming desktop or a gaming laptop (but they will be a lot more expensive). The main reason I say a gaming desktop is because the hardware / components are very good for Video Editing program like Sony Vegas for example. You will need a good Graphics Card, a good CPU, and a sufficient amount of RAM memory and you can get that in a retailed gaming PC. I doubt you're going to want to build your own computer but you can get a very HIGH-END system for around $500 - $1,000. If you want a high-end laptop then you're looking at around $1,000 to $1,500 for video editing. I currently have a Dell Alienware M14x laptop and when I edited videos in Sony Vegas it handled it easy.
-----------------------
My laptop "specs" were;

Operating System:
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

***CPU:
Intel Core i7 2720QM @ 2.20GHz
Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology

***RAM:
4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 797MHz (11-11-11-28)

Motherboard:
Alienware M14xR1 (CPU1)

Graphics:Generic PnP Monitor (1600x900@60Hz)
Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000

***Discrete Graphics Card:
NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M

Hard Drive:
977GB Seagate ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB (SATA)

Optical Drives:
HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GS30N

Audio:
Realtek High Definition Audio
-----------------------
That's the kind of hardware I have in my laptop and you're going to want to have a good discrete graphics card if you can get one. Don't spend too much on them because you can get to ridiculous price ranges. Anyways besides all of that... Do some more research on Google and you should get exactly what you wanted.

P.S. Stick with Cannon DSLR's. They're the best. Especially the Rebel models.

HELP IN PLAYING AND EDITING THE VIDEO FROM A CANON DSLR?

d E i y O

im using a canon 500d and a 4GB class 10 SDHC kingston memory card.. recently i recorded few clips from my friends for i want to make a teaser/trailer. i used 720p @ 30fps and i didnt use up all the memory from the memory card. but when i transfer it to my laptop (dell vostro)..it has some problem in playing the video in the laptop. the video doesnt play smoothly (it lags). and i cant seem to edit it in any video editing software (windows movie maker or sony vegas).. whats the reason behind this? why cant it play smoothly on my laptop despite that im using a class 10 memory card? is it from the video format or something else is causing this? and what type of video format should i convert the video to? need ur help in this..need some advices and suggestions..thank you in advance.

Answer
The biggest problem is your laptop. 95% of the editing I do is on a desktop....and I had to do several upgrades on that to make it handle video editing smoothly (more memory, new video card, sound card, and power supply.....ohhhh, and an additional hard drive for more storage)

When I got a laptop, the first thing I looked for is one that could play GTA4 and BlackOps. If a computer (desktop or laptop) has issues running a graphics intensive game, then it will have issues with video editing.

With a laptop, about the only additional "upgrade" you can make is to add more RAM.

As far editing, you may need to make sure that the program can handle H.264 video (MPEG-4/AVC). You may need a H.264 CODEC (COmpression/DECompression) driver. I prefer the K-Lite CODEC pack... http://download.cnet.com/K-Lite-Mega-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10794603.html
