mac or laptop for video editing image

I know this is a very general question, but in your opinion, what would be the best laptop for under $1300 that is good for video editing (I would also use it for school work, web browsing, movies and music)?
But couldn't I get a much better quality laptop with much better components thats not a mac for cheaper?

Answer
Well, I hear a lot of good about Apple, and I am sure they are good for video editing, but Mac's are generally expensive.

If you prefer to get a PC, I know the perfect one for you. It's an HP Pavilion dv6000 (also called the "HP Pavilion Entertainment PC"). It cost me $1209 with all tax, but included a free HP all-in-one printer (scanner, etc). There are many free inclusive programs. There is this one called Cyberlink Power Producer, it is by far the best I've used yet. I made a full DVD for my friend's birthday, with content about her. It has a full DVD menu, custom background of her & me, and I chose which scene I want on each page, and the style of buttons, etc. I even have background music on the menu. It allows me to make scenes, add subtitles, add transition effects, add audio, add music, add video, pictures, etc. You can even add effects such as snowfall, water rippling, and much much more. You can capture content directly from the program, as there is a built in webcam & microphones. You can even capture content from video cameras that are attached to the comp, it automatically detects theme. I honestly love this computer, and I look forward to producing even more videos. Even if you are just doing something simple, it can do it. It can extract audio from video too. Also, you can save as many file types, depending on what you are making (DVD video, data disc, etc.)

And the laptop has 250GB hard drive, and 3GM RAM, never lags, runs smooth. Also has a fingerprint scanner, works amazingly. My HP laptop is intended for my next 5 years of university, so I do expect it to last :) And it has many free programs, I still haven't tried them all yet.

What is the best computer for video editing, but also same gaming?

I want to buy a computer that will be primarily used for video editing with Adobe Creative Suite 4 Production Premium. However, I also enjoy gaming. I want it to have tons of memory (really really fast performance) and hard-drive (at least 600 GB hard drive). What computer would be best for me and with what specs? Mac or PC? Desktop or Laptop? etc..... thanks for any info you can provide!

Answer
PC Desktop.. More performance for your money, more support and the following...

PC=Variety of specs, options, quality, prices, vendors, support
Mac=One vendor, limited options, still more expensive. Look below for more information..

Today, Macs use a subset of PC hardware. Why spend extra to get the same CPU chips, graphics cards and OS X isn't as secure as you think..

Don't believe the lies that Macs are better than PCs at graphics/animation.. Dreamworks Animation http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/ under studio click on Technology of Animation, an independent film maker I know uses PCs, a graphic artist I used to know uses PCs also.

A number of PCs can also run OS X (Mac OS) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=os+x+on+pc&btnG=Google+Search&aq=0&oq=os+x+on+ as well just that Apple makes it illegal in order to get Market share.. The reason why Mac can run native Windows is because it is using a subset of PC hardware,

If you decide to buy a Mac for running Windows, you will still have to get the same virus/spyware protection, and run into the same issues as a regular PC.

Now is a Mac worth buying for OS X?

I say: NO... for the following reasons...

ADVANTAGES WINDOWS :
Aprox 90% of the market is Windows and most PCs have windows already pre-installed.
1) Some websites require Internet Explorer, to run IE on Mac you really get ies4osx which is the Windows version of IE running really buggy and illegal if you don't have a legitimate copy of Windows.
2) Supports devices (printers and other things you hook into the computer).
3) More business software/games
4) Want the dock on OS X (Mac)? google/yahoo rocketdock, objectdoc.
5) Used by businesses.

ADVANTAGES LINUX :
1) FREE (most versions are)
2) Install software by eitjher 1) Synaptic Package Manager, 2) Add/Remove 3) Opening a .deb or .rpm file (depending on distribution)
2) Like the Mac OS X effects? go yahoo/google COMPIZ FUSION which can do any cool effect a Mac can do and many ore....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4Fbk52Mk1w
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3gkX9HDfEE (there is no flickering when you use it like on the video, not sure why the person has the flicker)
3) Mac OS X Doc? google/yahoo Avant Window Navigator.Cairo Dock, http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3rf5q_cairo-dock-mac-os-x-leopard-dock-on_tech
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0hzi22g2DE
4) It is FASTERr/MORE SECURE to surf on the internet
5) Some Windows programs work with Wnehq/Crossover (also avail on Mac, but why pay $$$)

SECURITY
Mac OS X was hacked in 2006 less than 30 minutes, and within 2 minutes in a contest in 2008, and within 10 seconds in 2009. In 2008, Linux and Vista were not hacked until another day when restrictions were lowered. Vista was next, and then Linux. In 2009 Windows 7 fell shortly after the Mac but Linux was unscathed.
Macs are standardized with Cameras, if your Mac gets hacked, the hacker can turn on your camera with more ease.
Please Note: All OS's have vulnerabilities.

VIRUSES
Mac OS X has viruses (and significantly on the rise), a friend of mine has a virused Mac. As more users use Macs, more viruses will come out for it. Especially when users think "they are safe".

QUALITY/PROBLEMS
Contrary to belief, Macs are not better quality. Apple also has been changing suppliers to try to "lower the price" and thus lowering quality. Even with the lower prices, Macs still cost more, they spend a higher percent of budget trying to make it look pretty, and marketing.

Sample of problems: Overheating Macbooks, OS X- not responding to keyboard, some units with 16bit screens, etc. Apple statistics are misleading since Mac users with problem machines are more likely to go out and buy a new computer than PC users. Apple is lowering prices which means you can expect lower quality than in the past. Apple had switched the manufacturers producing parts. OS X also has problems slowing down.

Repairs are more expensive than PCs since the IMac, Mac Mini are compact units, and Apple charges a premium for their services. Some repairs can be done by another repair service but the compact design of the computer causes problems.
With an IMac, if the problem is with the monitor, the whole computer would have to be brought in.
IMac and Mac mini lack expansion.

PRICE
A similar equipped PC is much cheaper to purchase than Mac. Lets use Dell (but you can compare with another PC Brand if you like)

**(LAPTOP)
Dell Inspiron Laptop $849 dropped to $799
15" Screen
CPU: (upgrade to) 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100

Hard Drive: 320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
Optical Drive: Blu-ray Disc Combo (DVD+/-RW + BD-ROM) - WRITES DVDS,CDS, READS Blue-Ray Disks

**(DESKTOP)

PLEASE NOTE: I compare Apple Mac's vs Dells best deal. If you really want an all-in one the Dell all-in-one has more ram, wireless keyboard and mouse and equivalent to $400 for free making the Imac still more expensive when you matching specs. Personally I don't think the All-in-Ones are a good choice, and consider them overpriced, lack expandability and repairs both more expensive and require the entire computer.

PS: Apple knows that they need to make Macintosh look different than PC so all Macs except the Mac Pro will not have a tower option. Apple's low end lacks expandability but it makes the Mac "look different", if Mac had a tower for low-end, more people would realize the similarities between the two.

Dell: (At The Moment) Specs Below costs $809
CPU: 2.4 GHZ Dell Inspiron QUAD (4 Processor) CORE
SCREEN: 20inch Screen
MEMORY: 3GB Ram
HARD DRIVE: 500 GB hard Drive
OPTICAL DRIVE: 16x DVD/CD Read/Writer
GRAPHICS: (upgrade to ) ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 128MB

The Mac Mini since it has no monitor, keyboard, mouse, very skimpy on options and setup and is not the best deal... The IMac is better price than the Mac Mini.

IMac ($1400)
CPU: 2.4 GHZ DUAL (2 Processor) CORE (SLOWER CPU)

I need a video editing software for special effects and editing for mac please help?

Answer
After Effects; $240/year
http://adobe.com/products/aftereffects.html

Blender; free alternative to Maya ($3,700) and After Effects ($240/year).
http://blender.org

Blender has a complete VFX pipeline in one single software package. Blender has tools for modeling, sculpting, rigging, animation, rotoscoping, chroma keying (green screen), motion tracking, smoke, fire, and fluid simulation, particles, destruction, physics, color grading, node compositing, and video editing.

After Effects uses "layer-based" compositing. Blender uses "node-based" compositing similar to Nuke ($4,155); used in the movie industry http://thefoundry.co.uk/products/nuke

Blender has more advanced features but After Effects is easier to use.

The easiest and most detailed tutorial on how to use Blender is Neal Hirsig's tutorial at http://gryllus.net/Blender/3D.html

Blender is 100% free with full functionality, no adware, no spyware, and no viruses, and you're allowed to use Blender in any production without having to pay for anything.

Video Editing:

Lightworks; semi-free alternative to Avid ($1,200), Adobe Premiere ($240/year), and Sony Vegas ($600).
http://lwks.com

Lightworks has been used in the movie industry for more than 20 years. Lightworks also has the fastest workflow in the industry.

Lightworks used to cost more than $1,000, but now Lightworks Pro costs $60/year and you can download a free version from their website.

Editors using Lightworks have produced numerous internationally renowned and Oscar and Emmy award-winning feature films and television programs, including The King's Speech, The Departed, Mission Impossible, Braveheart, and Pulp Fiction.

Lightworks is FREE if you don't need pro video codecs and you can use the free version as long as you want.

What kind of video editing laptop should i get?

best laptop for video editing yahoo
on What do we want? - Imgur
best laptop for video editing yahoo image

Steven T

I will be going to college for video making. What kind of laptop would be best and what should i have on it? Mac or PC? advantages, disadvantages, and the best computers for each

Answer
PC,
Laptop: Toshiba http://explore.toshiba.com/laptops/qosmio/G50 Dell XPS, or Sony.

I would then download Ubuntu and make the laptop a dual boot and install Cinelerra, Kino, Lives, Pitivi, Blender, Inscape, Scribus all for free.

I would stay away from a mac for the following reasons...

PC=Variety of specs, options, quality, prices, vendors, support
Mac=One vendor, limited options, still more expensive. Look below for more information..

Contrary to belief, Macs are not better quality. They use a lot of the same parts as PCs. Apple also has been changing suppliers to try to "lower the price" and thus lowering quality. Even with the lower prices, Macs still cost more, they spend a higher percent of budget trying to make it look pretty, and marketing.

Today, Macs use the same hardware as PCs. Why spend extra to get the same CPU chips, graphics cards and OS X isn't as secure as you think.. Look below.

WINDOWS ADVANTAGES:

Aprox 90% of the market is Windows. Most PCs include windows already pre-installed.
1) There are a number of websites that still require Internet Explorer to view and IE for Mac Stinks (it is really ies4osx which is the Windows IE version running really buggy on OS X and illegal if you don't have a legitimate copy of Windows, too many problems with it).
2) More supported peripherals (printers and other things you hook into the computer) on Windows.
4) If you like the Dock on OS X (Mac) google/yahoo rocketdock, objectdoc.

I Would also install Avira AntiVir, Avast, Comodo Firewall on the Vista since there are free versions.

LINUX ADVANTAGES:

1) Install Linux, and then get tons of stuff for free. Updates done, etc.. Linux is very easy and has tons of software that will be updated automatically. (Checking a checkbox in either two ways to install (Add/Remove or Synaptic Package Manager), search for something I want, check a box and click apply)
2) If you like the effects on a Macintosh go yahoo or google COMPIZ FUSION. It can do just about any cool effect a Mac can do and more...
3) If you like the Dock on OS X (Mac) google/yahoo Cairo Dock, avant window navigator.
4) Linux is MORE SECURE. I surf the internet and can even run some windows programs on Linux.

LINUX OS
If you are worried about viruses, spyware, security, Try Linux (it is free), I have included some information about Linux and links so you are not lost if you decide to try it.

Easily turn your system into a Dual booting computer with Linux, fast, safe and secure, easy to use (contrary to belief). You then get the best of both worlds (Windows with all of its supported products, freely go online without the worry)

My Recommendation would be either Ubuntu (Most popular and well supported linux), Kubuntu (KDE version of Ubuntu),
Freespire (has all windows codecs for watching videos, dvds out of the box),
PCLINUXOS (very nice Linux, easy to use and polished),
There are so many good versions of linux besides these.

PLEASE NOTE: In linux there are many forms of Windows Environments, the two main ones are KDE (K Desktop) and GNOME. Ubuntu uses GNOME, KUBUNTU is a KDE version of Ubuntu, PCLINUXOS, Freespire use KDE... The differences in the window environments (DESKTOPS) control how you configure, open close the windows, the appearances of the windows... linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting helps with printer support. ScreenCasts.ubuntu.com shows video and non-video help with learning to work with Ubuntu.

There are many good Linux distributions for different reasons, distrowatch.com, polishlinux.org, desktoplinux.com
are good websites for overall understanding linux.

Installing Linux in general is very simple and much more secure than OS X(Macintosh) and free.
Also, most Linux distributions have a LiveCD which means you can try without installing...
UBUNTU, KUBUNTU, FREESPIRE, PCLINUXOS, etc.. all have live CDS.
All you have to do is..
A) to download .iso file off the internet from the Linux website
B) burn the .iso file to a CD or DVD (Make sure your burning software can burn an ISO or get InfraRecorder http://infrarecorder.org/)
C) restart the computer with the CD in the drive
D) As computer is restarting, press on F12 Key a bunch of times to get a boot menu
E) Select the option to boot from CD or DVD.

Click on this link and follow instructions up to the point of "Once the system has started up...", (the rest is how to backup windows) for an easy picture guide for steps A-E above http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/
For easy instructions on setting up Dual Boot http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_windows_xp_and_linux_xp_installed_first.htm

ANOTHER QUICK NOTE: People have been able to run OS X on a PC since the PC and Mac use the same hardware. This is not legal and I would not recommend it for security and legal reasons

But, I have included a link to show you, purpose is to show that there is nothing special about the MAC.

A)Price...
A similar equipped PC is much cheaper to purchase than Mac. Lets use Dell (but you can compare with another PC Brand if you like)

D) WINDOWS LICENSE is discounted with PCs

You do not pay the full price, for instance Dell -> you pay $50 or less for Vista Home Premium If you buy a Mac and want Vista, you pay full price.

D) EXPANDABILITY & REPAIR...

With AppleCare you have to put down $300 and there is no guarantee the computer will be fixed, may cost more.. What's a nice inexpensive laptop that comes with a good installed editing program?

I would like to get an editing software like the MacBook's ($999) which i was looking to get, but way outta my price range.
my price range is around $400.
And for editing videos.
But i thought the MacBook comes with a free video editing program?

Answer
good luck rendering videos with a computer thats under $400. i strongly suggest saving up more money. save up enough money to buy a computer with an Intel i5 proccesor atleast if you want to do videos editing.

if you dont want to do that then make absolutly sure that the computer you get has a dual core proccessor. Intel processor are generally better than AMD. go for atleast 4Gb of RAM. and i would suggest buying an external hard drive to hold all the videos, cause in your $$ range the harddrive will fill up FAST.

As for a program for editing there are plenty of free softwares that any Windows computer can download off the internet. i would suggest asking which one is the best under the computers>software section of Yahoo answers.

Im not a huge computer geek, but instead of a laptop, im thinking of this mac mini. Im coming from a Compaq Presario CQ62, and windows got old and I want to try Mac. Is it a great enough performer for stuff like Video editing, and some music software? The 600$ is the most ill pay for anything, not including keyboard and mouse. I will be pretty much hooking this up to my 47" flat screen, so good buy or not?

Yes I think it would be a good buy...

Roxio Game Capture Video Wave crashes when I add background audio?

Corio

I recently installed the video editing software for my Roxio Game Capture HD Pro and everything works except for adding background audio. The capture card does not record my voice while I'm playing so I figured I would use Sound Recorder to record it while I play and then just overlay my voice after recording the video. The problem is that whenever I click the "Add Background Audio" button the File Explorer appears but a message immediately pops up saying "Videowave has stopped working" and then the program closes.

I am using a Toshiba Satellite A665(64 bit) with a Core i3, and Intel HD Graphics. I have Windows 8 and the program would only install when I used the Windows XP Service Pack 3 compatibility mode(if I didn't do this the installation would roll back when doing something with DirectX 9). I have attempted running the software with Game Booster Razer and also after installing a patch from October 2012 and restarting a computer but it still crashes when I try to add audio.
Any Ideas?

I have a pc computer and I'm looking for the best video editing software. I want somthing that can play a soundtrack in the background (without song lyrics), speed up/slow down clips, trim clips, and place clips together to make a movie. I want to make a youtube channel and I need a good editor that I can download to do that:) any suggestions???

Answer
Here's a list of some of the free ones:

Windows Movie Maker -- WMM is already installed on computers that are running Windows XP and Vista. But if you have Vista or 7, you can use the latest version:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/movie-maker-get-started

You may add 3rd party effects that don't come with the WLMM with this:
http://www.thefxarchive.com/index.php?category=WLMM_2011

VirtualDub -- may lack the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. You can take a captured clip, trim the ends, clean up some of the noise, convert it to the proper frame size, and write out a better one. Remove and replace audio tracks without touching the video. It has extensive video filter set, including blur, sharpen, emboss, smooth, 3x3 convolution, flip, resize rotate, brightness/contrast, levels, deinterlace, and threshold.
http://www.virtualdub.org

Avidemux -- a free video editor designed for simple cutting, filtering and encoding tasks. Trim, add filters and even encode video. You can remove the audio portion of a video file, or remove the video portion and retain the audio part, among others. You can even reformat and resize your videos. It's a great and effective free video editing software for those who havenât obtained much, if any, experience in video editing.
http://avidemux.sourceforge.net

Blender -- a 3D graphics video creation program which hosts a variety of features. These include modeling, animation, rendering, post-production and real-time interactive 3D, as well as game creation.
http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/

Zwei-Stein -- a great free video editing software, but the user interface is very technical. It is full featured, offering many different effects. There are up to 64 effects, which can be chained serially.
http://www.thugsatbay.com/tab/?q=zweistein

Wax -- a high performance and flexible free video editing software program, good for both home users and professionals. It can create 2D & 3D special effects and can work in two modes - as a standalone application which would appeal for home users/beginners, and as a "plug-in" to video editors/NLEs which would be more useful for professional editors.
http://www.debugmode.com/wax

VSDC Free Video Editor -- It's the only free advanced video editor with chroma key editing, and even split screen editing. With a full support for dozens of video codecs and formats including but not limiting to AVI, MP4, MKV, MPG, WMV, 3GP, FLV for video; MP3, WAV, WMA, FLAC, PCM, OGG, AAC, M4A, AMR for audio; and BMP, JPG, PNG, PSD, ICO, TIFF for images, VSDC Free Video Editor provides one of the easiest ways to combine multiple source chunks in different formats into a resulting high-quality video.

Are you familiar with those green compositing stuff that you hear in the movie editing world? This software can do that. Here's a sample of what it can do:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luyOn5DdUZs

http://www.videosoftdev.com/free-video-editor

Note that this software is free but comes with a stupid 'Conduit Toolbar' it is trying to promote. It gets installed on your browser. You can easily remove that toolbar by going to Control Panel ⺠Uninstall a Program. select 'Conduit Toolbar' from the list of currently installed programs, and uninstall. Next, if you are using Mozilla Firefox, click the Firefox menu ⺠Add-Ons ⺠Extensions tab. Find and click on Conduit Toolbar and select Remove. Restart your browser afterwards.

Why is there no good free video editing software?

jimbofatty

There is good free software for 3D graphics and picture and music editing so why are there none for video editing and compositing?
What i mean is there is a great program called blender that does 3D graphics. A program like this would be a lot harder to make than video editing program so why is there no good ones or is there?

Answer
because you havent looked hard enough for it yet theres free software everywhere you just dont know where to look hehe =^^

best laptop for video editing under $700 image

I'm looking for a very portable laptop either 13 or 15 inch for under 700 dollars Im going to be using it to surf the web and do some video editing and using photo shop so I want it to be really fast and have a long battery life I won't be using it for gaming

Answer
i would go for this one, I am an environmental science major and i use it for some demanding programs. This has an AMD A6 processor and graphics, it is quad core with a 1 gb dedicated Graphics card(up to 4 gb total,3 shared). This also has turbo boost. it normally works at a slow speed, but when a program needs it, it boosts from 1.4 to 2.5 ghz. this saves battery life/power. the speed is more then enough,it will be ok for 5 or 6 years as this is a quad core. it also has a good size hard drive and it is 15 inches. The processor just came out like 3 months ago, it is much better then the intel i5 and much cheaper. This laptop costs 450, I have had it about a week and i love it. The only thing i dont like about it is the screen size, i prefer a 13 inch but everything else is great on it. This laptop technology is brand new, so it isnt like half of the laptops on the market now, 5 or 6 year old technology. so not only is it cheap comparatively( an intel i5 with the same specs would be at least three hundred dollar more) but you dont have to worry about the technology being outdated any time soon.

What type of camera under 700 dollars takes perfect videos that i can easily edit on a macbook pro?

Ok, so I need a laptop for video editing for school, but I don't know which one to get. I need one with at least 2.4GHz, something with a RAM higher than 1.00 GB, and lots of memory. Please don't say "Don't get laptops, get a desktop..." because I already have a desktop great for video editing and now I need a laptop.
Please help.

Answer
Well.. this could help you narrow down your choices..

Get a laptop with a dual core processor that rates at least the speed you want there.
Get a laptop that has a video card with dedicated video memory, as opposed to one that uses shared video memory.

Now. I know you can read. You posted the question here. You know that 2.4ghz something means something, and you know how to spot that. You know how to spot RAM and the numbers that will be around it.

You are perfectly capable of looking YOURSELF for what you want. Why? Because any laptop you look at, will list it's processor speed (that 2.4ghz thingy), how much RAM it has (Yep... RAM=RAM. No big geek translator needed there) and more.

In short, if you want to act as knowledgeable as you are trying (I don't need a desktop for actual computing power. Got one. I want a laptop as powerful and versatile as a desktop. I just don't want to take the time to learn what "powerful" means) then start looking yourself.

Prepare to be disappointed. Few laptops are made to the specifications you are expecting (made for video editing in mind), and the ones that are, are not cheap.

Maybe you should look at a Sager. Completely custom laptops.
http://www.sagernotebook.com/default.php Go ahead and build yourself one there online. See how much it costs. Oh, and if you don't know what all these options and doodads and numbers mean... isn't it time you learned?

What is the best video editing software for Windows Vista?

Adobe Premier Elements
Sony Vegas
Avid

I want one that can make really great AMVs with cool special effects.

Answer
Of the three you have listed here, Sony Vegas platinum edition would best suit your needs. Adobe Premiere is a good second choice. Personally I find Avid too hard to use and extremely overpriced for what you get.

In my opinion Sony Vegas has the most special effect options, in the lowest price bracket. It is simple to use and very powerful. It also has the best audio editing capabilities of the three programs you have listed here. I use Vegas Pro 8 daily, as well as Final Cut. Between the two, I prefer Vegas for most tasks.

If you are going to be working with a lot of still images, Premiere Elements bundled with Photoshop elements is a very good choice.

Tony Noon
This is my opinion as of 9/9/08. Video equipment changes literally daily and yesterdays top of the line is todays obsolete junk.

It's simple drag and drop technology, so perfect for beginners to experiment and have fun creating music, video and photo slideshow mixes without a steep learning curve. However, there are advanced features such as beat-matching etc., so you can find a level to suit your capabilities. You can cut samples, remix tracks, change tempos, create slideshows, create & edit videos, record in directly from your mic etc. Check out the site for a full range of reviews.

We also provide libraries of royalty-free loops & beats that will help you in creating new and unique tracks - they're really cheap, so worth checking out:

core i5 laptop for video editing image

Jn Dan

All are Pre-Ovned BTW
So the first one is an Acer Aspire S3 with a Core i7, Intel HD graphics, 13 inch display, 20Gb SSD+500GB HDD W7 along with couple of programs (Microsoft Office 2010 Professional, Magix Web Designer 7 Premiuim, Magix Music Maker MX)
The other one is an Hp 15-B109EO Ultrabook Core i5, GT 630M (2GB), 32GB SSD+750GB HDD, W8
Then the last one is a mid 2012 13 inch macbook air.
I will be using it for college, mainly video editing, along with music and video editing. People say that Macs are the best for media edting, is that true? But which one suits my need the best? I'm swifting towards the HP, because of the powerful hardware, but which one should I choose?

Answer
Macs are better at media, mainly because of the OS and applications developed for them. However, the intel integrated graphics performance in the macbook air will be much inferior to the graphics of the HP. If you go with windows, I should choose the HP over the Acer.
The plus of the mac is that it will come preinstalled with good basic audio and video editors, (garageband and iMovie) and final cut is a good upgrade from that if you want to take the editing further. You may find rendering and things to be a little slow on the macbook air though :/

Windows is less media based, not really and decent programs preinstalled (windows movie maker sucks) But things like premier elements (adobe video editor) are good editors to buy if you do go with windows! the rendering will be quicker!

What kind of laptop processor should I get?

Dominator0

Hi i'm planning on buying a laptop but im not sure what processor i should buy, as there are many different ones. I will be using the laptop for browsing the internet and watching videos, recording, video editing in sony vegas (maybe) and playing some games (age of empires, zoo tycoon, hour of victory etc). So i was wondering do i just need a dual core? Or an i3? Should I get an intel or AMD?

Answer
From my experience, Intel processors will probably get you the most bang for your buck in the mid range. First off, dual core will definitely be helpful, particularly if you multitask; most processors are dual core these days, including the entire Intel "i" series. While an i3 will probably suffice, I can personally testify to how smoothly even recent games run on an i5; the turboboost of an i5, which is essentially an automatic overclocking when needed, is helpful. Of course, for both video editing and gaming, a dedicated graphics card is all but essential, and a lack thereof will bottleneck a laptop's performance regardless of processor.

What is a video editing software I can get for free or from Best Buy? I need it soon so nothing I have to order from the internet that will take forever and a day. I need it to be able to play clips backwards. Plus, Windows Movie Maker just is not cutting it.

Answer
Pinnale Studios one (I forget the full name) is okay for a lower priced one. I wouldn't consider it great, but its a step up over Windows Movie Maker at least. It s definitely a consumer product though.

There is then Sony Vegas. This is very popular around the consumer scene. Its a little pricey though perhaps for what you're getting. But I hear its really easy to use and pickup. I've not used it personally though, just hear people are fairly satisfied with it.

There is Adobe Premiere Pro or Premiere Elements. The Pro one is far more expensive but far more robust. Elements would be a huge step up over Windows Movie Maker for you and not nearly as costly. That might also be the easiest one to just pickup from a BestBuy or such. I've used Pro only, so can't comment to heavily about Elements. But as its just a slightly "weaker" version of Pro, I would imagine its a pretty solid application.

Cheers.

How to hook up a laptop pc to surround sound system for audio and video?

best laptop setup for video editing
on The Pittsburgh Medical Review, Volume 3: Anonymous: 9781175871596 ...
best laptop setup for video editing image

Corey

The surround sound system is hooked up to a projector, but I want to hook my laptop up to the surround sound system to watch movies from my laptop onto my projector. 7.1 Channel Onyko surround system.
Video is working now, but no audio. Using Asus G75 Laptop, Onyko 7.1 channel Surround Sound System
Windows 7
Display:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660m
DAC Type- Integrated RAMDAC
Monitor- Generic PnP Monitor
Driver Model- WDDM 1.1
Also, video and auio both work when I hook up laptop to tv with hdmi

Answer
- This is the best way to hook up your devices by using a hdmi cable for hd audio and hd video:
- 1st hdmi cable to hdmi output on device to hdmi input on receiver for hd audio, then 2nd hdmi cable to hdmi output on receiver to hdmi input on tv for video (hdmi video passthroughs to tv untouched).
- Receiver menu -> manual setup -> hdmi setup -> hdmi audio setup -> send audio to amp (not passthrough to tv).

- For computer to receiver/tv audio: If your using hdmi/displayport make sure graphics card supports audio or soundcard supports video. After you are hooked up make sure you enable hdmi or displayport or s/pdif audio output (select qualities or other settings).
- Tip 1: I recommend k-lite codec pack for media player classic or vlc player or kmplayer (configure their audio settings. Example: K-lite codec pack -> ffdshow audio decoder -> select surround sound formats to passthrough to receiver untouched and then select bitstream/pcm formats.ect). Tip 2: Since the audio passthrough to the receiver untouched, I recommend you use a audio editor like audacity and amplify (not pass clipping level) each channel of audio and export and then play the file (also, make a folder with video file and name your audio file the same thing and use the audio switcher on those players I recommended). = Tip 3: If you have a receiver (input device) and/or output device that does not support DTS-HD-MA, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD-HR, or Dolby Digital Plus bitstreams, you can tell your output device to decode it into PCM and then send it over the hdmi cable to the receiver.

- RE EDIT: Computer's start menu -> run -> dxdiag -> display and display name AND system and system operating system name.
= NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660m supports hdmi hd audio. You can use the tips that are provided above.
= Step 1: Turn off computer/laptop and tv and receiver -> Hook up devices with hdmi with the above method shown at the top of this post -> turn computer/laptop on OR turn tv and receiver off and hook it up with hdmi cable and then restart computer/laptop.
= Step 2, Windows 7: Computer's start menu -> control panel -> sound or audio devices settings -> sound playback tab -> right click on digital hdmi output and enable it and set it to default device and hit test (check show disabled or disconnected devices) OR Right click on sound/speaker icon at the bottom right of your screen -> playback devices -> and do the same steps as before. = Note: You might need to configure the properties settings.
= Step 3: Turn receiver on -> Turn tv on and go to hdmi channel -> in sound settings on playback devices, right click digital hdmi output and click test (second time hitting test btw).
= Tip 1: Remember to always turn pc on before turning on receiver and then turning on tv and remember to always turn tv off before turning off receiver and then turning off pc.
= Tip 2: Make sure hdmi audio is set to default device so it always works, without having to have it recognize and do the settings all over again later.
= Tip 3: If you can't get it to recognize, you can try going into your bios settings. OR You can try the hdmi ARC (audio return channel) method, tell receiver to passthrough audio to tv and tell tv (if tv has hdmi ARC) to passthrough audio through the tv's hdmi ARC to receiver . = Note: You have to see if your tv's hdmi ARC can transfer back hd audio and surround sound audio.
= Tip 4: If you still can't get it to recognize and all else fails, you have to hook up laptop/computer to tv with hdmi cable, then use a s/pdif optical or s/pdif coaxial or red/white rca outputs on tv and go to one of those inputs on receiver. = Note: S/pdif optical or s/pdif coaxial do not support 7.1 or hd audio, they can do 5.1 non-hd audio tho. = Note: Red/White RCA only do stereo/2.0 analog. = Note: The tv may only output lossy formats or may be downmixed to stereo even if your using hdmi ARC or s/pdif.

I am looking for a video editing software. I know this question has so many answers and anyone can hit that on google search bar to get a whole list of software. But actually that doesn't satisfy my criteria.

That's why I really expect the answer from someone who has good experience in video editing field and worked with that practically, because I myself use several free editing tools and none of them can make me happy, specially windows movie maker is too simple and other free tools don't include that much feature. I am tiered on all of them now. I really need a very good tool either free or in reasonable price.

What is the best free video editing software?

Hello. I am trying to set up a youtube account and make videos. What do you recommend the best free easy to use video editing software is?

Answer
How about three very good freeware video editor programs, Freemake, FileLab, or VSDC? Each is safe, fully functioning, no watermarks, will not ask for money, and are recent releases that are HD capable.

They are listed in order of increasing capabilities. Freemake provides merging of video clips, and simple editing such as cutting and splicing. It will also automatically upload your video to YouTube if desired. It is also capable of converting your video to just about any video format in existence. FileLab has much more features, such as color correction, title editor, and special effects. FileLab also runs on both PC's and Macs (no-kidding)! VSDC is an advanced editor, capable of effects such as green screen editing. The following link has more info, but make sure to also view other articles on this site, as they outline other capabilities of these three programs.:

Answer
You can find reviews of laptops at CNET. They have reviews for the latest laptops on the market.

I recommend DELL laptops, because in my opinion they make the best laptops out there. I still use my DELL Inspiron 1501 that's nearly 5 years old. Take a look at this laptop.
It's called DELL Inspiron 15R and it's cheap and I think it's bes for the price. Specs:

Processor 2nd Generation Intel® Core⢠i5-2430M processor 2.40 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.00 GHz
Operating SystemGenuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64-Bit, English
Display15.6" High Definition (720p) LED Display with TrueLifeâ¢
Memory34GB3 Single Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz
Hard Drive 500GB4 SATA hard drive (5400RPM)
Optical Drive 8X Tray Load CD/DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive) with Roxio Creator 2011
Video CardIntel HD Graphics/HD Graphics 3000 with up to 1.6GB Dynamic Video Memory
Warranty1 Year Mail-in Repair in 10-14 days after Remote Diagnosis
Weight5.84 lbs

Price: $600

The only thing that sucks is the graphics card. It has Intel VGA, which is not suited for gaming. However, there's a more expensive version of this laptop, which costs $724 and has a dual graphics card. Specs:

Processor 2nd Generation Intel® Core⢠i5-2430M processor 2.40 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.00 GHz
Operating SystemGenuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64-Bit, English
Display15.6" High Definition (720p) LED Display with TrueLifeâ¢
Memory36GB3 Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz
Hard Drive 640GB4 SATA hard drive (5400RPM)
Optical Drive 8X Tray Load CD/DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive) with Roxio Creator 2011
Video CardAMD Radeon⢠HD 6470M (64-bit) 512MB (Dual)
Warranty1 Year Basic Support
Weight5.84 lbs

I think this laptop is worth the money.

EDIT: I know many things for computers for a 15 year old kid. My goal is to become a programmer and I am very interested in technology. However, I'm not a gamer, so therefore I don't know much about gaming.

Macbook Air (2011) vs Macbook Pro SSD?

Rohan

Hi. I am in the market for a laptop and want either the Macbook Air 13 inches or Macbook Pro SSD 13 inches . I will be using the laptop for browsing the web, creating documents and streaming music. The Macbook Air has been receiving exceptional reviews and the benchmarks show it outperforming even the 2011 Macbook Pro 13 inch base models. Add that level of performance to a beautiful laptop and I thought I was sold. I tried it in the apple store and the performance blew me away (those ssds are AMAZING) However, I will not be taking the laptop out of the house very often. Although the portability would be great in terms of moving it around my house, I do not feel it is my number one priority. Should I still go for the air? Or should I go for the Pro SSD? I really like the ability to launch apps very quickly so I am sold on SSD, so I will not look at the 13 inch base model at all. However, as portability is not a HUGE factor, will my money be better spent with the Pro SSD? I will not be doing any great photo or video editing, simply documents and internet... and keep in mind it costs an extra $150 to the air. However, as portability is not a number one concern will the pro still do me better in the long run?

ALSO, if neither of the two fit my needs, recommend another laptop, or tell me if I should wait till the new pros!
Which Windows laptop should I look at?

Answer
I will strongly recommend you Apple MacBook Pro MC700LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop. While buying Macbook air you have to sacrifice memory as it has less hard drive. The graphics are so clear, it is so fast and so light weight to carry anywhere. You can check this out at

Read this opinion from an actual user, and you'll know why I recommend this laptop
