I want to buy a computer that will be primarily used for video editing with Adobe Creative Suite 4 Production Premium. However, I also enjoy gaming. I want it to have tons of memory (really really fast performance) and hard-drive (at least 600 GB hard drive). What computer would be best for me and with what specs? Mac or PC? Desktop or Laptop? etc..... thanks for any info you can provide!

Answer
PC Desktop.. More performance for your money, more support and the following...

PC=Variety of specs, options, quality, prices, vendors, support
Mac=One vendor, limited options, still more expensive. Look below for more information..

Today, Macs use a subset of PC hardware. Why spend extra to get the same CPU chips, graphics cards and OS X isn't as secure as you think..

Don't believe the lies that Macs are better than PCs at graphics/animation.. Dreamworks Animation http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/ under studio click on Technology of Animation, an independent film maker I know uses PCs, a graphic artist I used to know uses PCs also.

A number of PCs can also run OS X (Mac OS) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=os+x+on+pc&btnG=Google+Search&aq=0&oq=os+x+on+ as well just that Apple makes it illegal in order to get Market share.. The reason why Mac can run native Windows is because it is using a subset of PC hardware,

If you decide to buy a Mac for running Windows, you will still have to get the same virus/spyware protection, and run into the same issues as a regular PC.

Now is a Mac worth buying for OS X?

I say: NO... for the following reasons...

ADVANTAGES WINDOWS :
Aprox 90% of the market is Windows and most PCs have windows already pre-installed.
1) Some websites require Internet Explorer, to run IE on Mac you really get ies4osx which is the Windows version of IE running really buggy and illegal if you don't have a legitimate copy of Windows.
2) Supports devices (printers and other things you hook into the computer).
3) More business software/games
4) Want the dock on OS X (Mac)? google/yahoo rocketdock, objectdoc.
5) Used by businesses.

ADVANTAGES LINUX :
1) FREE (most versions are)
2) Install software by eitjher 1) Synaptic Package Manager, 2) Add/Remove 3) Opening a .deb or .rpm file (depending on distribution)
2) Like the Mac OS X effects? go yahoo/google COMPIZ FUSION which can do any cool effect a Mac can do and many ore....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4Fbk52Mk1w
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3gkX9HDfEE (there is no flickering when you use it like on the video, not sure why the person has the flicker)
3) Mac OS X Doc? google/yahoo Avant Window Navigator.Cairo Dock, http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3rf5q_cairo-dock-mac-os-x-leopard-dock-on_tech
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0hzi22g2DE
4) It is FASTERr/MORE SECURE to surf on the internet
5) Some Windows programs work with Wnehq/Crossover (also avail on Mac, but why pay $$$)

SECURITY
Mac OS X was hacked in 2006 less than 30 minutes, and within 2 minutes in a contest in 2008, and within 10 seconds in 2009. In 2008, Linux and Vista were not hacked until another day when restrictions were lowered. Vista was next, and then Linux. In 2009 Windows 7 fell shortly after the Mac but Linux was unscathed.
Macs are standardized with Cameras, if your Mac gets hacked, the hacker can turn on your camera with more ease.
Please Note: All OS's have vulnerabilities.

VIRUSES
Mac OS X has viruses (and significantly on the rise), a friend of mine has a virused Mac. As more users use Macs, more viruses will come out for it. Especially when users think "they are safe".

QUALITY/PROBLEMS
Contrary to belief, Macs are not better quality. Apple also has been changing suppliers to try to "lower the price" and thus lowering quality. Even with the lower prices, Macs still cost more, they spend a higher percent of budget trying to make it look pretty, and marketing.

Sample of problems: Overheating Macbooks, OS X- not responding to keyboard, some units with 16bit screens, etc. Apple statistics are misleading since Mac users with problem machines are more likely to go out and buy a new computer than PC users. Apple is lowering prices which means you can expect lower quality than in the past. Apple had switched the manufacturers producing parts. OS X also has problems slowing down.

Repairs are more expensive than PCs since the IMac, Mac Mini are compact units, and Apple charges a premium for their services. Some repairs can be done by another repair service but the compact design of the computer causes problems.
With an IMac, if the problem is with the monitor, the whole computer would have to be brought in.
IMac and Mac mini lack expansion.

PRICE
A similar equipped PC is much cheaper to purchase than Mac. Lets use Dell (but you can compare with another PC Brand if you like)

**(LAPTOP)
Dell Inspiron Laptop $849 dropped to $799
15" Screen
CPU: (upgrade to) 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

**(DESKTOP)

PLEASE NOTE: I compare Apple Mac's vs Dells best deal. If you really want an all-in one the Dell all-in-one has more ram, wireless keyboard and mouse and equivalent to $400 for free making the Imac still more expensive when you matching specs. Personally I don't think the All-in-Ones are a good choice, and consider them overpriced, lack expandability and repairs both more expensive and require the entire computer.

PS: Apple knows that they need to make Macintosh look different than PC so all Macs except the Mac Pro will not have a tower option. Apple's low end lacks expandability but it makes the Mac "look different", if Mac had a tower for low-end, more people would realize the similarities between the two.

Dell: (At The Moment) Specs Below costs $809
CPU: 2.4 GHZ Dell Inspiron QUAD (4 Processor) CORE
SCREEN: 20inch Screen
MEMORY: 3GB Ram
HARD DRIVE: 500 GB hard Drive

GRAPHICS: (upgrade to ) ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 128MB

The Mac Mini since it has no monitor, keyboard, mouse, very skimpy on options and setup and is not the best deal... The IMac is better price than the Mac Mini.

IMac ($1400)
CPU: 2.4 GHZ DUAL (2 Processor) CORE (SLOWER CPU)

What is the best laptop for video editing?

FireHawk

I love video editing! I have had a Desktop PC for a long time and done some great work with it however, I am ready to move to something more advanced than what I have been doing (Windows Movie Maker). Since I want a new computer, I might as well go portable. I like Apple's macbooks, but I wanted to see if there were any other computers that offered everything that macs offer and maybe more features for less $$$. Any Suggestions?

Answer
Hi FireHawk,
video editing requires a powerful and speedy machine. Many of their laptops
are designed for video games, which means that their multi-media capabilities are top of the line. Though Alienware is one of the best, Hewlett-Packard is good too. Make sure to get quality graphics and audio cards. nVIDIA makes great graphics cards while Audigy sound cards are best for real-time editing.

Try Alienware M17X - Laptop with IntelCore 2 Quad Processor, 17" LCD, 4GB RAM, 500GB HARD DRIVE - Intel Core 2 Quad Processor,

HP Envy 14 2011 Quad Core vs Dual Core?
Hey everyone, I have finally decided to buy myself a new laptop this thanksgiving. I'm going with the HP Envy 14 2011 edition. Before I get into detail, I would like to say that HP has done a really good job with this generation's Envy line, especially with the touchpad. But here's the real question, Which one should I choose:

HP Envy 14 2011 Quad Core:
* Processor - 2nd generation Intel Core i7-2820QM (2.3 GHz, 8MB L3 Cache) w/ Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz
* GPU - 1GB DDR3 Radeon HD 6630 switchable Graphics (This is the only available choice)
* RAM - 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 DIMM)
* HDD (Storage) - 878GB Dual Drive (128GB mSATA SSD + 750GB 7200RPM HDD)
* Battery - 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (I believe its supposed to last about 6 hours, but I'll give it about 4 hours)
* Display - 14.5" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1366x768) [No changes can be made to the display].
* CD/DVD driver - SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support (Slot Load Drive)
* Webcam - HP TrueVision HD Webcam
* Modem/WLAN - Intel 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth
* Keyboard - Island Style/Backlit
* Included Software Bundle - Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 & Adobe Premiere Elements 9
--------------------------------
Total = $1909.99
--------------------------------
OR

HP Envy 14 2011 Dual Core:
* Processor - 2nd generation Intel Core i5-2410M (2.3 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz
* GPU - 1GB DDR3 Radeon HD 6630 switchable Graphics (This is the only available choice)
* RAM - 6GB 1333MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 DIMM) [You can't get the 8 GB with this option)
* HDD (Storage) - 878GB Dual Drive (128GB mSATA SSD + 750GB 7200RPM HDD)
* Modem/WLAN - Intel 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth
* Keyboard - Island Style/Backlit
* Included Software Bundle - Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 & Adobe Premiere Elements 9
--------------------------------
Total = $1329.99
--------------------------------
I don't want people suggesting me any MacBook's (I've used the MBP 13 and the iMac, also checked out the new OS X Lion, it was good but I'm not getting it, I need a PC), Asus's, Dell's, Sony Vaio's (I checked out the Vaio S & Z, they're great laptops but, the Z's to expensive. And the S series is to flimsy, and I believe it has heating issues. Especially because of the hinge on the back), or any other devices. I want the HP Envy because of its build quality and its performance.

PLEASE READ THIS:

Money is not an issue, although, battery life is. That's my main question. I've heard that the Quad Core is more demanding when it comes to battery life where as, the Dual Core is less demanding and has switchable graphics card. Plus, I've also heard that the Quad Core over heats, is that true? I'll be using this PC for photo and video editing, also I might try a few PC games (I haven't played any games on a PC before and I really want to give it a try). I appreciate your response in advance!!

Answer
Max power consumption of Intel Core i5-2410M is 35w
Technical details:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i5-2410M-Notebook-Processor.45317.0.html

Max power consumption of Intel Core i7-2820QM is 45w
Technical details:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i7-2820QM-Notebook-Processor.40112.0.html

So in short the Core i5 should give you more battery life. But the Intel Core i7 will give you more better performance and speed.

EDIT:

Hint:
Laptop heating up during normal usage is due to inefficiency of the manufacturers design/fan.
Use a cooling mat like this to counter this problem.

Especially recommended if you are gaming or using cpu intensive tasks like video rendering or encoding.

Hope this helps :)

Which laptop would be best for me?

I need to buy a laptop. I can't decide which one I should get. My budget would defiantly be under $1000 so a macbook would be out of the question.... I need to use it for the basic, casual things like Internet, Microsoft Word, etc. However I need one that's works great with Video Editing, with a program like Sony Vegas Movie Studio. I need a laptop that's really reliable with video editing programs and video editing in general. A nice and fast one for internet and such would be great. One with fewer viruses would be nice. A properly built one, (My friends laptop monitor was flickering and it broke) Also one that's decently small in size so it could be carried around everywhere or for travelling.So which laptop would be best to buy that's reliable and works well for my needs?

Question About RAW files?

video editing software 550d
 on 550d etc video audio equipment i use canon t2i 550d etc related sites ...
video editing software 550d image

Pumpkin

This might sound like a silly question to you pros out there,but
how do you compress a RAW file??
What software do you use for it?
Can a RAW video file be compressed too?
Will it lose it's size and quality?

I am planning to shoot videos with a 550D and make a music video about 3-4 minutes long..
So I am rather concerned if this will affect my laptop and crash it.
Btw are there any other FREE video editing software?Because you have to purchase the Sony Vegas and I don't have a Mac,....
Well.

Answer
There is no such thing as a raw video file.

RAW is a still image format, in fact it's not a format, it's just the RAW unprocessed image data your camera produces - sometimes people call it the equivalent of a digital negative.

RAW images have to be processed by an image editor. You can use various software - such as Adobe Photoshop with the Adobe Camera Raw plugin, GIMP with UFRAW plugin, or if you are not technically minded - even Google Picasa 3 can process RAW images.

If you own a Canon 550D - you already have Canon DPP which can process the images - it's on the CD that came with your camera.

For free video editing software for Windows: Windows Movie Maker is free. Get it from the Microsoft website.

Editing Canon 550d footage in Adobe Premiere Pro CS5?

Tyler

I am new to video editing, the 550d, and Adobe Premiere Pro. I understand that the settings you use while editing can greatly improve/tarnish the video quality. What steps do I need to take to make sure I am getting the highest quality possible. I understand a few things so far. 550d shoots in h264 format, whatever that is. So,

1.) When I open up a new project in Adobe PP, What settings do I use in the first window that pops up? The format (dv or hdv), etc. etc..

2.) And what camera settings do I select in the next window? I would imagine DSLR, but 24fps or 25fps or what?

3.) And how do I export the video with the correct settings. Like suppose I've just finished the editing process, and I want to get the video up on youtube. I think this is where the H264 thing comes in.

Any help would be appreciated. If you could walk me through this like a small child (I have no editing experience lol) that would be great.

Thanks.

Answer
Sorry, I can't help you with that, but whenever I learn a new piece of software (such as Photoshop), I spend tons of time reading/watching tutorials, looking up the help files, getting books from my library etc.

Adobe Premiere is a big program that can't be explained in just a few lines. YOU will have to make the effort to learn it yourself.

Good luck with it.

Could I improve my gaming performance if I overclocked the RAM on my CPU?

vaio laptop for video editing
 on The specifications of the Sony Vaio CR Notebook PC include:
vaio laptop for video editing image

Inquirer

My Vaio laptop is a few years old. It has an i3 dual-core processor and an Intel integrated GPU. Here are some relevant specs:

RAM: 4.00 GB (3.67 GB usable)
Total video memory: 1751 MB
Dedicated video memory: 128 MB

I want to be able to play higher end games at decent quality, but as of now, all my high-end emulators only run at about 25 fps; I'd like them to run at about 50-60 fps. Seeing as how I can't apparently overclock the RAM on the integrated GPU, could overclocking the RAM on the CPU make a significant difference? If so, by how much should I overclock it?

Answer
You probably could in some cases. What I do, is use a CPU utility to overclock/underclock my CPU, depending on how I'm using it at the time.
High-performance - Hair Trigger Overclock with slow drop for Gaming,
Normal performance - Up to my normal 15x multiplier for standard use.
Power Saving with extreme underclock (down to 4x @ <1V) for when I'm leaving it unattended.
This alleviates all the unnecessary heat buildup associated with a static setup (from BIOS) and saves power. This will also allow you to play around with multipliers & voltages, to find what the limits are and what works best.

I used RMClock Utility 2.35 until I upgraded to a Phenom x4 940, to find it wasn't supported by the software.
I now use PhenomMsrTweaker, which will likely not work with your Intel.

*edit* He's right about the 32-bit & Graphics card. But as many programs aren't coded to use 64-bit, you could still be ok on that count. If you're not ready for a new OS, I would certainly look into getting a separate graphics card... perhaps a used mid/high level for that machine, to take some responsibilities of that CPU. That's the main way you're gonna get more frame-rate.

How can I transfer videos from my video camera?

Crissis

I have a "Sony Handycam CCD-TR517" and of course, it's analog...
I have old videos in 8 millimeter cassettes and well. i want to transfer them to my laptop and then burn them to a CD, i have a Sony Vaio laptop... so i have no idea how the analog video cameras connect to the compu. Do i need a software or just a wire...? what the hell do i need, hahahahaha. PLEASE HELP ME AND EXPLAIN IT STEP BY STEP... THANX!

Answer
The Sony CCD-TR517 is a Video8 analog camcorder. You know this.

You will need the AV cable that came with the camcorder...

If your computer has a Firewire/i.LINK/DV/IEEE1304 port, then you will want to get an "analog/digital converter" like the Canopus ADVC55 or ADVC110.

If your computer has no firewire port and no way to add one, then you are stuck with the USB based A/D converters from Pinnacle (Dazzle) or Roxio - among many others.

Plug the Camcorder's AV cable into the camcorder and the A/D converter.

Plug the A/D converter into the computer.

Put the camcorder in Play mode.

Launch the video editing application or import utility.

Press play on the camcorder.

Import the video.

VoIP for a project?

video editing software jitter image

networking

I need a smiulator to explain VoIP for a project in linux windows network..
or what can I do If I have the softwares but I want to explain it localy in a LAN or a enterprise network MAN etc..

Answer
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a protocol optimized for the transmission of voice through the Internet or other packet switched networks. VoIP is often used abstractly to refer to the actual transmission of voice (rather than the protocol implementing it). VoIP is also known as IP Telephony, Internet telephony, Broadband telephony, Broadband Phone and Voice over Broadband. "VoIP" is pronounced voyp.

Companies providing VoIP service are commonly referred to as providers, and protocols which are used to carry voice signals over the IP network are commonly referred to as Voice over IP or VoIP protocols. They may be viewed as commercial realizations of the experimental Network Voice Protocol (1973) invented for the ARPANET providers. Some cost savings are due to utilizing a single network to carry voice and data, especially where users have existing underutilized network capacity that can carry VoIP at no additional cost. VoIP to VoIP phone calls are sometimes free, while VoIP to public switched telephone networks, PSTN, may have a cost that is borne by the VoIP user.

Voice over IP protocols carry telephony signals as digital audio, typically reduced in data rate using speech data compression techniques, encapsulated in a data packet stream over IP.

There are two types of PSTN to VoIP services: Direct Inward Dialing (DID) and access numbers. DID will connect the caller directly to the VoIP user while access numbers require the caller to input the extension number of the VoIP user.
Functionality

VoIP can facilitate tasks and provide services that may be more difficult to implement or expensive using the more traditional PSTN. Examples include:

* The ability to transmit more than one telephone call down the same broadband-connected telephone line. This can make VoIP a simple way to add an extra telephone line to a home or office.
* 3-way calling, call forwarding, automatic redial, and caller ID; features that traditional telecommunication companies (telcos) normally charge extra for.
* Secure calls using standardized protocols (such as Secure Real-time Transport Protocol.) Most of the difficulties of creating a secure phone over traditional phone lines, like digitizing and digital transmission are already in place with VoIP. It is only necessary to encrypt and authenticate the existing data stream.
* Location independence. Only an internet connection is needed to get a connection to a VoIP provider. For instance, call center agents using VoIP phones can work from anywhere with a sufficiently fast and stable Internet connection.
* Integration with other services available over the Internet, including video conversation, message or data file exchange in parallel with the conversation, audio conferencing, managing address books, and passing information about whether others (e.g. friends or colleagues) are available online to interested parties.

[edit] Implementation

Because UDP does not provide a mechanism to ensure that data packets are delivered in sequential order, or provide Quality of Service (known as QoS) guarantees, VoIP implementations face problems dealing with latency and jitter. This is especially true when satellite circuits are involved, due to long round trip propagation delay (400 milliseconds to 600 milliseconds for geostationary satellite). The receiving node must restructure IP packets that may be out of order, delayed or missing, while ensuring that the audio stream maintains a proper time consistency. This functionality is usually accomplished by means of a jitter buffer in the voice engine.

Another challenge is routing VoIP traffic through firewalls and address translators. Private Session Border Controllers are used along with firewalls to enable VoIP calls to and from a protected enterprise network. Skype uses a proprietary protocol to route calls through other Skype peers on the network, allowing it to traverse symmetric NATs and firewalls. Other methods to traverse firewalls involve using protocols such as STUN or ICE.

VoIP challenges:

* Available bandwidth
* Delay/Network Latency
* Packet loss
* Jitter
* Echo
* Security
* Reliability
* Pulse dialing to DTMF translation

Many VoIP providers do not translate pulse dialing from older phones to DTMF. The VoIP user may use a VoIP Pulse to Tone Converter, if needed.[citation needed]

Fixed delays cannot be controlled but some delays can be minimized by marking voice packets as being delay-sensitive (see, for example, Diffserv).

The principal cause of packet loss is congestion, which can be controlled by congestion management and avoidance. Carrier VoIP networks avoid congestion by means of teletraffic engineering.

Variation in delay is called jitter. The effects of jitter can be mitigated by storing voice packets in a jitter buffer upon arrival and before producing audio, although increases delay. This avoids a condition known as buffer underrun, in which the voice engine is missing audio since the next voice packet has not yet arrived.

Common causes of echo include impedance mismatches in analog circuitry, and acoustic coupling of the transmit and receive signal at the receiving end.
Quality of service

Some broadband connections may have less than desirable quality. Where IP packets are lost or delayed at any point in the network between VoIP users, there will be a momentary drop-out of voice. This is more noticeable in highly congested networks and/or where there are long distances and/or interworking between end points. Technology has improved the reliability and voice quality over time and will continue to improve VoIP performance as time goes on.

It has been suggested to rely on the packetized nature of media in VoIP communications and transmit the stream of packets from the source phone to the destination phone simultaneously across different routes (multi-path routing). In such a way, temporary failures have less impact on the communication quality. In capillary routing it has been suggested to use at the packet level Fountain codes or particularly raptor codes for transmitting extra redundant packets making the communication more reliable.

A number of protocols have been defined to support the reporting of QoS/QoE for VoIP calls. These include RTCP XR (RFC3611), SIP RTCP Summary Reports, H.460.9 Annex B (for H.323), H.248.30 and MGCP extensions. The RFC3611 VoIP Metrics block is generated by an IP phone or gateway during a live call and contains information on packet loss rate, packet discard rate (due to jitter), packet loss/discard burst metrics (burst length/density, gap length/density), network delay, end system delay, signal / noise / echo level, MOS scores and R factors and configuration information related to the jitter buffer.

RFC3611 VoIP metrics reports are exchanged between IP endpoints on an occasional basis during a call, and an end of call message sent via SIP RTCP Summary Report or one of the other signaling protocol extensions. RFC3611 VoIP metrics reports are intended to support real time feedback related to QoS problems, the exchange of information between the endpoints for improved call quality calculation and a variety of other applications.

[edit] Difficulty with sending faxes

The support of sending faxes over VoIP is still limited. The existing voice codecs are not designed for fax transmission. An effort is underway to remedy this by defining an alternate IP-based solution for delivering Fax-over-IP, namely the T.38 protocol. Another possible solution to overcome the drawback is to treat the fax system as a message switching system, which does not need real time data transmission - such as sending a fax as an email attachment (see Fax) or remote printout (see Internet Printing Protocol). The end system can completely buffer the incoming fax data before displaying or printing the fax image.

[edit] Emergency calls

The nature of IP makes it difficult to locate network users geographically. Emergency calls, therefore, cannot easily be routed to a nearby call center, and are impossible on some VoIP systems. Sometimes, VoIP systems may route emergency calls to a non-emergency phone line at the intended department. In the US, at least one major police department has strongly objected to this practice as potentially endangering the public.[4]

Moreover, in the event that the caller is unable to give an address, emergency services may be unable to locate them in any other way. Following the lead of mobile phone operators, several VoIP carriers are already implementing a technical work-around.[citation needed] For instance, one large VoIP carrier requires the registration of the physical address where the VoIP line will be used. When you dial the emergency number for your country, they will route it to the appropriate local system. They also maintain their own emergency call center that will take non-routable emergency calls (made, for example, from a software based service that is not tied to any particular physical location) and then will manually route your call once learning your physical location.[citation needed]

e911 is another method by which VOIP providers in the US are able to support emergency services. The e911 emergency-calling system automatically associates a physical address with the calling party's telephone number as required by the Wireless Communications and Public Safety Act of 1999 and is being successfully used by many VOIP providers to provide physical address information to emergency service operators.

[edit] Integration into global telephone number system

While the traditional Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) and mobile phone networks share a common global standard (E.164) which allocates and identifies any specific telephone line, there is no widely adopted similar standard for VoIP networks. Some allocate an E.164 number which can be u

I have a CANON VIXIA HF200 and I put it to the setting of 24P. I was wondering how to remove the jitter/blur that is supposedly caused by the 24P setting. Could this be removed via software?

Extra Details: I didn't use slows shutter speed; I mostly playback the videos on the camcorder or my laptop; I haven't rendered the video as of now so I'm hesitant to install any editing software (likely it would be Adobe Premiere CS4 or Sony Vegas 8); and yes I was recording a lot of fast action (basically I was recording some virtuoso pianist).

Thanks.

Answer
lare and NYC fan are both correct... but what we don't know are the conditions that the video was captured - specifically, the lighting conditions.

If the lighting was poor and the shutter automatically slowed, it is possible that the "blur" is caused by the slow shutter speed and not necessarily by the 24p setting. Then, we don't know where you are seeng the "jitter/blur" - is it when you view the camcorder playback on the camcorder or on when it is connected to a HDTV... or after you import the video to the computer and the video editor or what video editor you are using to work with that video... or after you render the video (after editing) and the render settings you are using. We also do not know if this was fast action or not - remember, high compression (AVCHD/MTS is very compressed) and fast action do not get along very well.

At this point, I don't think you have provided enough information for us to suggest resolution...

best laptop for video editing and music production image

Ian

I need a laptop for school, and would like it to be fast, reliable, durable, and fairly portable. Besides using it for school, I need it for organizing and editing lots of music, photos, videos, and other files. I like to game sometimes, so it needs to be powerful enough to be able to handle new games set to high quality. Clearly it needs to be very powerful, however it still needs to be portable enough for me to take it anywhere. I really like macbook pro's for their quality, size, durability, and aesthetics, however I would much rather have a pc.

Answer
I actually just bought a laptop after over 10 days of looking and found a pretty cool deal for a very powerful computer. Great for a student, heck, at this price and with this power it's great for anything. At this point I couldnât be any happier with my new laptop. Thereâs a seller on Amazon called "Electronic Mind" that is selling some really powerful Acer Aspires way below retail value and has the lowest price on Amazon all together.

Here is the link:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003YD9â¦

I donât know how they can sell them so cheap but I have had mine now for 2 weeks and I am very happy with my choice. Iâm playing some awesome games such as Fall Out New Vegas, Black OPâs and other cool games. Best of all all of the games play really smooth. I use this for my college classes and work as well in addition to audio engineering programs.

With Acer Aspire you canât go wrong. The laptop is wicked, I am running very strenuous programs on it such as music production software and hardcore games and it can take anything I throw at it

Why don't notebooks come with Core 2 Extreme processors ?

Rockstar D

Only gaming notebooks have a Core 2 Extreme.
Toshiba X305 has got it. Dell's XPS has got it.
Why not all new laptops ?
Wouldn't it be better than Core 2 Duo ? Even if the Laptop is used for applications like Photoshop / Video Editing and Music Productions that use heavy VSTi's and samples.

Answer
One size doesn't fit all.

I guess market research has found that most people using laptops don't require a high end device. I'm guessing the majority of laptop users are either business people that do general office work on them or students doing papers and some audio/video playback. These users may be more interested in weight/size, power efficiency, heat discharge, and other similar features. Performance is probably in there too, but not at the level that you may be thinking.

See, I am hunting for a new Windows 8 Ultrabook. I found a couple ultrabooks which are both touch screen and only $500, while other touch screen ultrabooks cost a couple hundred dollars more. One is an Asus Vivobook and the other is an HP sleekbook. However, my only concern is that the Asus has an Intel i3 core. I want to multitask a lot on me device as easily as switching between apps on an iPad. My main needs are Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Web browsing, email, facebook, online games, some apps, CD and DVD burning, photo and video editing, video calls, iTunes, I think you get the idea. I do am not some hardcore PC gamer so I don't need too intensive speed, but I want about the same speed and responsiveness as an iPad. If an i3 is too slow for me, would an AMD 8-4555M be speedy? And what Intel processor would it correspond to? By the way, the HP is clocked at 1.60 GHz with Turbo Boost Technology up to 2.40 GHz, and the Asus at 1.8.
Here is the link for the Asus Vivobook: http://www.officemax.com/technology/computers/ultrabook-laptops/product-prod4690018

Answer
the amd a8 is a quad core, the i3 is a dual core. not only is an i3 a dual core, for the price it i not a very good processor.however i would not buy from microsoft or an asus ,asus quality has gone downhill. often you can find good laptops on clearance at retailers like best buy.contact me if you need more help.

How can I prevent my windows 8 computer from shutting down?

Fia

My computer is MSI Dragon Edition 2 GT70 running windows 8.
But the problem is that after a while of me going AFK(Away from Keyboard) my laptop shuts itself down..... EVEN though I have the sleep settings and everything else set to NEVER(On battery & Plugged in)
Yet my laptop decides to shut itself down after a while and it is really frustrating especially when I'm editing a video or uploading something or downloading a game.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening? I don't want my laptop to shut down.
No it's not overheating. Please don't just add any random answer to get more points.

What is the best video editing software for Windows Vista?

Adobe Premier Elements
Sony Vegas
Avid

I want one that can make really great AMVs with cool special effects.

Answer
Of the three you have listed here, Sony Vegas platinum edition would best suit your needs. Adobe Premiere is a good second choice. Personally I find Avid too hard to use and extremely overpriced for what you get.

In my opinion Sony Vegas has the most special effect options, in the lowest price bracket. It is simple to use and very powerful. It also has the best audio editing capabilities of the three programs you have listed here. I use Vegas Pro 8 daily, as well as Final Cut. Between the two, I prefer Vegas for most tasks.

If you are going to be working with a lot of still images, Premiere Elements bundled with Photoshop elements is a very good choice.

I want to buy a laptop for under 1000 dollars. I usually do stuff like photo and video editing, play games, make videos with adobe after effects,photoshop, website development, listening to a lot of music, and other general stuff. I would like it to at least have 8gb ram, over 500gb hard drive, and a fast processor to do all the things that I like to do. I also want something with a 15 in. + screen, but if it's smaller that will be ok. Touch screen and windows 8 would be nice too but not needed.

Answer
What kind of games are you talking about?
if its light gaming like facebook games to starcraft 2. I'd say just get a macbook pro since your photoediting
If your playing games like battlefield 3, youll probably want a republic of gaming from Asus laptop.

I'm personally a fan of Asus since I have gotten 3 laptops from them and I don't really like how people think Macs are better than PCs because theyre not. UNLESS your photo or video editing.

DONT get alienware...the only thing good about alienware is their tech support, and that only lasts as long as you ordered it to be.

How feasible is it for me to use my laptop as my video editing station?

somegirl

If I keep all my personal documents and everything on my external hard drive and customize my laptop for memory, etc. should I be able to have a portable video editing station with my laptop? (I've worked with final cut pro, but am thinking of using vegas pro on my laptop)

Answer
I have been using vegas for video editing on my laptop for 4 years with no problems. You can do all of the same things on a laptop that you can do on a desktop system. The important thing is to make sure your laptop has the resources to edit video. The bigger your project, the more CPU and memory you will need and a GPU will just add to ease of use and faster rendering. Before I got my new system was editing video on a 450 MHz celeron with no GPU successfully. Rendering was a bit slow but it still worked. I can imagine that your laptop is probably 5 times faster than that and if you do have a GPU then you should e good to go.

Answer
Check out LightWorks, http://www.lwks.com. It used to be a very expensive video editing program but has now been released as freeware. Many professional movies have been edited on LightWorks.

You can also check out the Source Filmmaker, http://sourcefilmmaker.com. This is the tool that Valve uses to make their in-game movies. It's pretty cool.

They are both free, although Lightworks has some extended codec support for pretty cheap.

Answer
RAM will speed up your computer depending on your computers processor. If your processor is too slow it might not make much or any difference. In your case it probably wouldn't hurt to have a Gig or two more RAM.

Is 2 gig of memory enough to run video editing software?

maestra

I have an entry level Gateway laptop that is 2 years old. It currently has 512 RAM; however I am thinking of upgrading it to 2 Gig (which is the max allowed for the motherboard). Is it possible to do video editing with that? I hope I do not have to buy another computer.

I have been using pinnacle systems software, and am hoping to get an external hard drive as well.

Thanks.

Answer
I don't think you "have to" upgrade the mem to 2gb. Try to go with 512 before upgrading, it will do.

Ok, so I need a laptop for video editing for school, but I don't know which one to get. I need one with at least 2.4GHz, something with a RAM higher than 1.00 GB, and lots of memory. Please don't say "Don't get laptops, get a desktop..." because I already have a desktop great for video editing and now I need a laptop.
Please help.

Answer
Well.. this could help you narrow down your choices..

Get a laptop with a dual core processor that rates at least the speed you want there.
Get a laptop that has a video card with dedicated video memory, as opposed to one that uses shared video memory.

Now. I know you can read. You posted the question here. You know that 2.4ghz something means something, and you know how to spot that. You know how to spot RAM and the numbers that will be around it.

You are perfectly capable of looking YOURSELF for what you want. Why? Because any laptop you look at, will list it's processor speed (that 2.4ghz thingy), how much RAM it has (Yep... RAM=RAM. No big geek translator needed there) and more.

In short, if you want to act as knowledgeable as you are trying (I don't need a desktop for actual computing power. Got one. I want a laptop as powerful and versatile as a desktop. I just don't want to take the time to learn what "powerful" means) then start looking yourself.

Prepare to be disappointed. Few laptops are made to the specifications you are expecting (made for video editing in mind), and the ones that are, are not cheap.

Maybe you should look at a Sager. Completely custom laptops.
http://www.sagernotebook.com/default.php Go ahead and build yourself one there online. See how much it costs. Oh, and if you don't know what all these options and doodads and numbers mean... isn't it time you learned?

Answer
Video editing machine needs both a powerful Processor & Graphic card.

Asus, Dell, HP etc...You should compare them all, but you find Acer totally dominates this price range, in terms of gear it gives that translates to overall performance.

I suggest having a look at the Acer Aspire 15" http://www.dpbolvw.net/l8122biroiq59EA9A9A576AA6EFD?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newegg.com%2FProduct%2FProduct.aspx%3FItem%3DN82E16834115795%26nm_mc%3DAFC-C8Junction%26cm_mmc%3DAFC-C8Junction-_-Notebooks-_-Acer%2BAmerica-_-34115795&cjsku=N82E16834115795 . Comes with intel "Core i5-450M" (Dual Core) processor & nvidia "GT 330M" graphic card, its performance will be identical to $1,799 - 15" Macbook Pro.

If you like it bigger & even more powerful, Acer Aspire 17" http://www.jdoqocy.com/qn72uoxuowBFKGFGFGBDCGGCKLJ?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.newegg.com%2FProduct%2FProduct.aspx%3FItem%3DN82E16834115792%26nm_mc%3DAFC-C8Junction%26cm_mmc%3DAFC-C8Junction-_-Notebooks-_-Acer%2BAmerica-_-34115792&cjsku=N82E16834115792 . Comes with the new amd "Phenom II N830" (Triple Core), this is equivalent to "Core i5 540M" & Radeon "HD 5650" which is faster than GT 330M, means this machine's graphic ablility will be faster than Macbook Pro.

How about three very good freeware video editor programs, Freemake, FileLab, or VSDC? Each is safe, fully functioning, no watermarks, will not ask for money, and are recent releases that are HD capable. Take your pick:

What is a free, easy to learn video editing software?

I would like to get a free, online, download of a video editing software. Please help me by giving me any suggestions you guys have. Also, I prefer if they are easy to learn & it is actually good.

Answer
Video pad is really good, for me atleast.
You can link and unlink audio from video clips.
Add effects, and what not.

Its free and simple. (:
