HP Envy 14 2011 Quad Core vs Dual Core?
Hey everyone, I have finally decided to buy myself a new laptop this thanksgiving. I'm going with the HP Envy 14 2011 edition. Before I get into detail, I would like to say that HP has done a really good job with this generation's Envy line, especially with the touchpad. But here's the real question, Which one should I choose:

HP Envy 14 2011 Quad Core:
* Processor - 2nd generation Intel Core i7-2820QM (2.3 GHz, 8MB L3 Cache) w/ Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz
* GPU - 1GB DDR3 Radeon HD 6630 switchable Graphics (This is the only available choice)
* RAM - 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 DIMM)
* HDD (Storage) - 878GB Dual Drive (128GB mSATA SSD + 750GB 7200RPM HDD)
* Battery - 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (I believe its supposed to last about 6 hours, but I'll give it about 4 hours)
* Display - 14.5" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1366x768) [No changes can be made to the display].
* CD/DVD driver - SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support (Slot Load Drive)
* Webcam - HP TrueVision HD Webcam
* Modem/WLAN - Intel 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth
* Keyboard - Island Style/Backlit
* Included Software Bundle - Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 & Adobe Premiere Elements 9
--------------------------------
Total = $1909.99
--------------------------------
OR

HP Envy 14 2011 Dual Core:
* Processor - 2nd generation Intel Core i5-2410M (2.3 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz
* GPU - 1GB DDR3 Radeon HD 6630 switchable Graphics (This is the only available choice)
* RAM - 6GB 1333MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 DIMM) [You can't get the 8 GB with this option)
* HDD (Storage) - 878GB Dual Drive (128GB mSATA SSD + 750GB 7200RPM HDD)
* Modem/WLAN - Intel 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth
* Keyboard - Island Style/Backlit
* Included Software Bundle - Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 & Adobe Premiere Elements 9
--------------------------------
Total = $1329.99
--------------------------------
I don't want people suggesting me any MacBook's (I've used the MBP 13 and the iMac, also checked out the new OS X Lion, it was good but I'm not getting it, I need a PC), Asus's, Dell's, Sony Vaio's (I checked out the Vaio S & Z, they're great laptops but, the Z's to expensive. And the S series is to flimsy, and I believe it has heating issues. Especially because of the hinge on the back), or any other devices. I want the HP Envy because of its build quality and its performance.

Money is not an issue, although, battery life is. That's my main question. I've heard that the Quad Core is more demanding when it comes to battery life where as, the Dual Core is less demanding and has switchable graphics card. Plus, I've also heard that the Quad Core over heats, is that true? I'll be using this PC for photo and video editing, also I might try a few PC games (I haven't played any games on a PC before and I really want to give it a try). I appreciate your response in advance!!

Answer
Max power consumption of Intel Core i5-2410M is 35w
Technical details:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i5-2410M-Notebook-Processor.45317.0.html

Max power consumption of Intel Core i7-2820QM is 45w
Technical details:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-i7-2820QM-Notebook-Processor.40112.0.html

So in short the Core i5 should give you more battery life. But the Intel Core i7 will give you more better performance and speed.

EDIT:

Hint:
Laptop heating up during normal usage is due to inefficiency of the manufacturers design/fan.
Use a cooling mat like this to counter this problem.

Especially recommended if you are gaming or using cpu intensive tasks like video rendering or encoding.

Hope this helps :)

Which laptop would be best for me?

I need to buy a laptop. I can't decide which one I should get. My budget would defiantly be under $1000 so a macbook would be out of the question.... I need to use it for the basic, casual things like Internet, Microsoft Word, etc. However I need one that's works great with Video Editing, with a program like Sony Vegas Movie Studio. I need a laptop that's really reliable with video editing programs and video editing in general. A nice and fast one for internet and such would be great. One with fewer viruses would be nice. A properly built one, (My friends laptop monitor was flickering and it broke) Also one that's decently small in size so it could be carried around everywhere or for travelling.So which laptop would be best to buy that's reliable and works well for my needs?
