I need a Mac compatible HD video camera and somewhat cheap editing software?

Josh

I've been looking around (with not too much luck) to find a pretty nice HD camcorder and video editing software for the Mac. I'm trying to find the camera for under $400, and the software nothing too fancy but I'd like green-screen compatibility. Anyone have any tips? It would mean a lot!

Answer
If you're looking for cheap video editing software, you may try this one. it can help you convert DVD and edit video, my friends recommend it to me, it works pretty good.

What video editing software would work with windows xp pro sp3?

Mario

I need an editing software dor my computer its a dell inspiron 8600 no internal upgrades what so ever. I was thinking sony vegas by i doubt it will work with this so what are some good video editing software that will work.

Answer
There have been two very good freeware editors recently released this year, FileLab and VSDC. Both should work with XP SP3 and your Inspiron.

FileLab is a freeware video editing program for just about all platforms (Mac, PC, etc...). I use it a lot to make YouTube videos. It runs in your browser using a simple plug-in download. It's also available as a free app on Facebook. It has many transition and video effects, very good title editor, and customized color correction to include brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, and gamma. Both of these FileLab YouTube tutorials were made with FileLab
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfNts_O1STA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYbAe-mUscs

VSDC is also freeware, but has much more advanced capabilities than FileLab, such as green screen! It's not as obvious or easy to use as FileLab, but did I already mention it has green screen (chroma key), and it's free? Also, it is capable of editing in most most popular video formats and compression schemes including high definition (HD), AVI, H.264, MP4, MKV, MTS, 3GP, WMV, QT, MP3, MPEG2 FLV, SWF. YouTube. Get it now while it's free because eventually this will go payware. And here are two tutorials on using VSDC

What is the best laptop for After Effects?

ca1marketi

I'm looking at buying a laptop to do freelance video editing. I'm accustomed to working in my full-blown production studio with rack-mounted gear and fibre channel RAID arrays, but I need something to take with me when I'm editing on the road. What's the current buzz on this?

Answer
this is not a question of hardware but of software. i don't know what you're using in your studio, Windows or Mac based PCs.

if you're familiar with Macs a Macbook Pro is what you need, in case of Windows based machines i would recommend a laptop with the best graphics card available (GeForce Go 7900GS/7900GTX/7950GTX), 2GB Ram is also a must and preferably a Core 2 Duo processor. Furthermore you should get the most powerful battery because laptops with these specs have a high power consumption.

Some suggestions (from cheapest to the most expensive) Dell Inspiron E1705, Toshiba Satellite P100, Dell XPS M1710, Sager NP5760. Sager isn't well known but top end.

Need a new computer should i get MacBook pro retina, iMac, desktop pc, or pc all in one?

video editing software for ipad image

chris

So I recently graduated college and my laptop also decided to call it a career and stop working. I'm now in the dilemma of deciding which route to go for my next computer purchase. I currently use my ipad2 to surf the web and don't necessarily need a portable computer as I'm finished with school and my occupation does not require one. Mainly I want a nice computer for downloading movies/music, website editing, using flash, editing video footage on my go pro hero3 black (which is why I'm considering retina display), something that can play video games like diablo 3 (nothing to crazy I do most of my gaming on my ps3 and am sure I will get the ps4 when it comes out), I also intend on continuing to take pilot lessons in the future and want to ensure whatever computer I get can efficently handle flight simulators. I've never owned a Mac computer before but I love my ipad and iPhone and have heard great things about their video editing software and really want to make some cool footage with what I have on my go pro so far and continue to do so in the future. Was really hoping to get some opinions on whether people think I should go the MacBook Pro route, iMac, a pc desktop with a really nice display or perhaps even an all in one PC option (have heard very little about) I want something that will last a long time and I know the Mac route will cost more I'm just interested if others think it is worth it for my purposes. Really appreciate all and any suggestions as this is going to be my first computer purchase in 5 years.

Answer
You should definitely go for MacBook pro retina because it is powerful , light , portable , works almost like iMac and looks trendy. But iMac is great if you want to do the things like video editing and gaming on professional levels. The only thing is that it is not portable. Also almost negligible amount of viruses affects Mac's (just one or two) . But you wont be able to get the flexibility that you get on a desktop PC.
An All-in-one is a strict no for me as it overheats quickly after few years and also repairing cost is more
and consumes lot of time (telling you on my personal experience) and after few years will lag a lot. SO the option remains MacBook pro , iMac and desktop PC. In Future if you will want to upgrade the hardware of your machine then iMac and PC will cost much less than the MacBook pro . Although PC makes a smarter choice as you can upgrade to latest stuff easily on a PC and it is also cheap.
You can go for MacBook as you dont need a special Gaming device.

Where can i find a good video editor for free?

Marlin

I need a good video editor that does not cost anything.

Answer
here are some free video editing software

1) Windows Movie Maker 2.6 : Microsoft has made version 2.6 of Movie Maker available for download, and it runs on both Windows Vista and Windows 7. While advanced users are likely using a more sophisticated video editing program, thereâs no denying that Movie Maker is an excellent, full-featured option for the average home user.

2) VirtualDub : VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows platforms (98/ME/NT4/2000/XP/Vista/7), licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.

3) T@b ZS4 Video Editor : ZS4 Video Editor is free to download and use. It is video editing and compositing software which aims to provide media experts with a facility to combine a variety of media types(currently photos, videos and audio files) into one or more output files.

What does a Macbook pro come with?

Ryan

When you buy it, does it have software like iwork, pages or powerpoint, or those program you woud need for school? Or do I have to purchase them? What does a Macbook pro have? What should I expect to pay, aside from the computer itself? Any additional fees? Thank you

Answer
It is NOT AN APPLE THING. Geeze, these Mac-haters are annoying. No brand of computer includes free Microsoft Office, unless it is some sort of "starter" edition, and even then, I guarantee Dell paid Microsoft for that, so Dell tacks something onto the price to make up for it.

Apple does not include any office software other than TextEdit that can write simple essays or open Word documents (both .DOC and .DOCX).

There was a lot of piracy among shops selling PC in the past (some still going on). The shop staff would install MS Office on a PC and never include the DVD. If the software had a problem later, you had to drag the PC back to the shop for a reinstall.

For your Mac, you have several options....
-- You can open and edit .DOC files in TextEdit. You can also create reasonably good .DOC files with TextEdit. It lacks some of the more exacting formatting options found in the other choices below.
-- MS Office 2011 (for OS 10.5.8 or later). About US$150.
-- Apple's Pages that is like Word, and Keynote that is like PowerPoint. Each US$19.99, click the App Store on the Dock.
-- NeoOffice, newest version US$10, last year's version free. Some people use OpenOffice or LibreOffice, but they are lesser cousins to NeoOffice.
-- GoogleDocs or other online office editors.

{NeoOffice is the direct Mac development of OpenOffice and LibreOffice, and thus has a better interface, smaller size, and better highlighting appearance. Most people learn about OpenOffice from PC use, but they don't know there is a better free version for OS X.}

MS Office 2011 can edit and save any office document. Apple's Pages / Keynote / Numbers (sold separately) can edit any .DOC / .PPT / .XLS document, and export as .DOC / .PPT / .XLS document, but can only view .DOCX / .PPTX / .XLSX documents and edit / export them as .DOC / .PPT / .XLS. NeoOffice can edit and export any Word document, but has the same limits as Keynote for PowerPoint documents.

Pages is similar in use to Word, except not as many oddities and hidden defaults that are hard to change. Keynote is similar to PowerPoint, except with much better transitions. Keynote has two limitations: it cannot apply a video to more than one slide, and it cannot apply an audio file (music) to more than one slide (except as background for the whole presentation). That's why I have both iWork and MS Office.

Why can't I install my canon legria fs306 camera's PIXELA disks onto my MAC?

nn

I just bought a new canon legria fs306 and read/followed all the instructions in the manual but still I failed installing the PIXELA disks. I have a Macbook OS X 10.5.8. Did I miss something?
Thank you for your help.

Answer
Because Macs don't need the Pixela software - other operating systems don't either. There is no software included in the box with any consumer camcorder that is actually useful.

When you connect the FS306 to your Mac with a USB cable and the camcorder is in Play or PC mode, the memory will mount to the computer.

You have two ways to go - since you did not tell us which Mac... The preferred method starts by first downloading and installing MPEG StreamClip
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
or similar transcoder.

Copy the video files from the camcorder to the computer;
Launch the transcoder (in this case, MPEG StreamClip);
Convert - transcode the copied files to something iMovie can deal with - like MP4 or DV or MOV files;
Quit the transcoder;
Launch iMovie;
Drag the converted video files to the sequence window... edit...

I am trying to make this for a dvd not the internet. what should I do to reduce the file size but keep the quality?

Answer
Shoot your video with the best quality then edited with good software that you don't have to convert your video format. Then render to MP4 or any HD format. When you burn to DVD, it should be good 480P video quality. I usually kept it the way without burning to disc. DVD is not a good quality. Blu-ray is ok for now. Try not to convert your video until you render it.

Hey there! I just bought the Canon 7D to play around with for some film projects. I was wondering if anyone has some good advice on what kind of audio equipment to get.
I'm looking for a boom mic and possibly a lapel mic. Nothing too fancy or expensive, but something that will get the job done and make the audio crisp.

Thanks for your help!

Answer
For recording videos, you should have bought an actual camcorder. A zoom recorder will work fine, but you'll need video editing software to sync up the audio.

Hello im a film student i just enter college but i need a computer for video editing and photo,
i have been searching whats best a pc or mac i see a lot of awesome sony and toshiba laptops that have awesome power and graphics but they have like 3 hours of battery life and macs have like 7 hours i think and the programs that apple has for edition are awesome.
So whats the best option for me a macpro or a pc?

Answer
Definitely a macbook pro!

Mac Pros are expensive, macbook pros are portable and have the most advanced video editing software including iMovie. HOWEVER, if you are going to film school and are there for video editing, you probably will need to make an investment into getting "Final Cut Studio" which costs about $1000 but is the most advanced video editing software on the market. It is created by Apple and is only compatible on macs. Many in hollywood use Final Cut. It is a very important video editing tool.

I have been a mac user since 1999. Have no regrets. Macs are better all round especially when it comes to creative work.

What kind of video editing is goo for uploading to YouTube and vista?

So I really love making videos with my iPod but I can NEVER figure out how to edit them. Or at least the long ones.
I hve tried windows movie maker but it never works on my 64 bit toshiba computer (vista) or my xp computer.
What is a video editing software that works well and can upload to YouTube. I mainly do makeup and beauty videos but I also like to do skits and stuff.
What do you think?

Answer
At first, my windows movie maker works well on windows 7 system to edit videos, and I think it will cover what you said about editing on windows vista, too. You may need to convert iPod videos to some other formats such as avi, I suppose.
Furthermore, videos can be imported from devices like iPod to computer and edited, uploaded to YouTube/ Facebook in a program named ArcSoft ShowBiz. (www.arcsoft.com/showbiz) You can try the program for free to finish your tasks.

I've heard good things about Macs but don't think I can justify the extra cost since I'm not interested in graphics or heavy video/photo editing. Should I just go for a cheaper laptop with good specs?

Answer
why would you buy into the slavery of apple computers! They control and monitor everything you do on thier devices..

If you are looking to only surf the internet, use itunes ( which is the WORST music progam out there) and other light stuff, save your money and purchase a PC that has Windows7! I can buy 2 to almost 3 PC's for the price of 1 MAC. Steve Jobs is ripping you off! A standard PC is going to have more RAM, a larger hard drive and most likely a faster processor for less anyway. Macs have always been known for their under power. The best thing about a PC that isnt an APPLE-- FLASH & ADOBE support.

His computers are no better than any other out there in terms of physical hardware. He has no magical factory that makes computer components better than anyone else.. As a matter of fact, APPLE uses Foxconn. Foxconn is a Chinese factory that manufactures computer components. The workers there are paid very low wages and the company had to install nets outside its windows and areas where a worker could jump because too many employees were committing suicide due to the conditions. Google it! This is a true story!

What computer would you purchase mainly for photo editing and digital painting?

Bal

I don't think building one is a viable option because components where I live are overpriced and don't get cheaper enough as time passes. I need a computer just for the things I stated and I have no interest in either gaming or video editing.

What do you think I should get?
Do you have any specific brand model in mind?

Brand buying advice

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down. What cost you less today is going to cost you more tomorrow.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate.

Choose wisely.

I'm seeing a lot of users uploading good videos because of their video editing software. For Windows, is there any good video editing software?

Answer
If you're new to editing videos, use Windows Movie Maker which is free.
If you want to be very pro and products you need to pay for, it would be Sony Vegas Pro or Adobe After Effects/ Premiere Pro (however, they're very costly and hard to use)

video editing software rotate 90 degrees image

So my husband made a video on the digital camera, without thinking he turned it sideways like you would for a picture. The screen showed it the right way when he taped it so he didn't think about it being sideways until we went to play it... Is there software or a program to rotate it or are we just out of luck?

Answer
Good news: there is software available from several companies that can edit multimedia images, including those from a digital camera or camcorder. A simple Internet search with the phrase 'video editing software' should point you most them.

Bad news: whichever software you choose, it will mean rotating every single image frame one by one; I know of none that can rotate hundreds or thousands of frames en masse. The simplest editors will have you select the image frame to edit (one click on a lineup of frames across the bottom of your screen), then click on an icon on the toolbar that represents the function "Rotate 90 degrees."

Envision doing that several hundred or a few thousand times in a row. Hopefully, there is one (or more) than can do many frames at once, but I haven't encountered it. Good luck.

Is there any way to rotate a digital video clip?

tg

I shot a video clip with the camera sideways (like you would do for a photo). I want to keep the video but it displays sideways on the screen/tv. Is there any way to rotate the whole clip 90 degrees (like you can do with digital pics)?

Answer
The Blaze Media Pro software includes a powerful and fast video editor feature with the ability to rotate AVI, MPG, WMV, and ASF files with ease. To use the video rotate feature, click "Edit Video" from the main interface. From the resulting video editor window, you can then open the video file you wish to rotate, perform the rotate operation, and save the video file back to the same filename or a new file. Direct video rotate is available for MPEG-1, MPEG-2, AVI (uncompressed), AVI (compressed using any available codec), WMV, and ASF. The video rotate operation can also be performed in batch mode on a list of video files using the software's Batch Video Processor feature. The software also provides other comprehensive video editing operations (delete frame, delete selection, crop, resize, mirror, flip, trim, text overlay, adjust audio volume, etc.). In addition, an extensive list of over 30 effects and color adjustment operations allow for powerful video enhancement and alternation. WAV, WMA, and MP3 audio files can be inserted into the video or extracted from the video; and BMP, GIF, JPG, PCX, PNG, RAS, PPM, TGA, and TIF are the supported image formats that can be inserted or extracted. The video rotate operation is very fast and easy to use. Advanced options are available for those who want to take advantage of them, though they are completely optional, making Blaze Media Pro the perfect video rotate software for users of any experience level.

You can download it from here.
