I have been using Sony Movie Studio Platinum HD 10 for awhile, and have recently started having some downloading issues with it. So I'm thinking of getting new software what do you think I should get? I don't need a beginners software
I've self-taught myself about a lot of things. Please keep it in the 0-200 dollar range.

Answer
CyberLink PowerDirector 10 is a feature-packed video editor that boasts some serious improvements over its previous iteration. With its revamped TrueVelocity engine and OpenCL support, it makes editing and rendering a bit speedier than before. Plus, it's got built-in 3D support.
As for the basics, PowerDirector can import and handle most of the video file types you would normally come across. You can also use it to easily add text, effects, and transitions; edit audio; capture video; burn discs; and share content online. Plus, it has intuitive, icon-based navigation and ample thumbnails, making it quite easy to zip around its interface.
So what's new? Eye-popping titles, picture-in-picture, particle effects, and time-lapse editing are among the added features. There's also, of course, some incredibly powerful 3D editing, as it can import all types of 3D content, convert from 2D to 3D, and output to virtually any industry-standard 3D format. Plus, the program includes some very nifty 3D menus and effects.
Among the new features, one of our favorites has to be Audio Beat Marker, which can potentially shave hours off of your editing sessions. The Beat Marker analyzes your soundtrack and automatically places markers at what it feels are major beat points, making it much easier to precisely place music-driven transitions and other effects. So, as you can imagine, it makes editing, say, a music video a less tedious process. There's also a single-click audio normalizer for when you're compiling several clips from different audio sources with different audio properties.
Another new feature we enjoy is the Drawing tool. It can record your mouse-drawn gestures and create overlays for use with your footage. Imagine recording your signature, and having it play out to look like graffiti being sprayed on a wall. While it might not be something you'd use every day, it sure is a nifty trick to have in your back pocket.
Finally, one thing that sets PowerDirector apart from its competitors is its integrated user community, DirectorZone. Through DirectorZone, you can download creative new menus, effects, particles, and even tutorials to help enrich your CyberLink experience overall. So if you need to stylize some dream sequence footage, for instance, you can log in and get tips from others who have that kind of knowledge.
While we do love the improvements that PowerDirector 10 brings to the table, we still wish we could squeeze a bit more out of its revamped engines. We felt it was a bit sluggish when launching, and it even lagged a little when we tried to quickly click through and preview all of the video effects. Overall, it's certainly not a slow program, but we did expect it to be a bit zippier.
In spite of its performance blips, we still consider CyberLink PowerDirector 10 a feature-packed video editor that gives you tons of bang for your buck. Whether you're a novice video editor or a more advanced user, it should have the tools you're looking for. And if it doesn't, you can probably find what you're looking for in the built-in treasure trove that is DirectorZone.

Hello. I am trying to set up a youtube account and make videos. What do you recommend the best free easy to use video editing software is?

Answer
How about three very good freeware video editor programs, Freemake, FileLab, or VSDC? Each is safe, fully functioning, no watermarks, will not ask for money, and are recent releases that are HD capable.

They are listed in order of increasing capabilities. Freemake provides merging of video clips, and simple editing such as cutting and splicing. It will also automatically upload your video to YouTube if desired. It is also capable of converting your video to just about any video format in existence. FileLab has much more features, such as color correction, title editor, and special effects. FileLab also runs on both PC's and Macs (no-kidding)! VSDC is an advanced editor, capable of effects such as green screen editing. The following link has more info, but make sure to also view other articles on this site, as they outline other capabilities of these three programs.:

What is the best video editing software for pc? I am going to be making videos with gunshots and explosions. What is the best software for me to use?

Answer
The best indicates expensive and not simple. If you are new to editing (which it sounds like). Do you really want a professional, expensive editing package? If your question is which is a good app to start learning editing, then there are several. It depends on your budget and skills. There are some entry- to mid-level apps like Pinnacle, Sony Vegas, or Premiere Elements that can get you started and they'll run you about $75 - $120. If you really want to start at the top, it'll cost you over $500 and some time to learn the app. That'll require lots of practice, book study, and possibly video tutorials...depends on you. Additionally, the more powerful the app the more system requirements. Video editing takes lots of RAM and a fast processor for rendering. Effects are another issue altogether. Once you get editing principles down, then you can learn to apply effects to your videos.

To answer your question as asked: The best is probably Avid. There are other top ones like Avid Express Pro, Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Vegas Pro

OK, I cannot make up my mind: is older macbook pro screen (say 2009) is better than a new current laptop (e.g. Asus K53E)
I need a color accurate screen for photo and video editing. It does not make sense to buy an outdated laptop, but maybe screen quality is still better than cheap new windows laptop?

are apple screens really that good? does any current windows laptop (CHEAP) can compare to them?
maybe there are any other options?

Answer
Remember that Mac's are favored within the media industry now. I'm not really sure how well that 2009 Mac would fair with the new Windows laptop.

From what i'm seeing with the Asus you get more RAM, more HDD, a better CPU but then reading the reviews people say it sucks.
If you can get like a 2010 Mac-Pro then you're good for awhile even though it has a slower CPU and lower RAM, than that Asus.

I have a 2010 MacPro and it still works fine for editing and stuff.
Like i said, Mac's are made for media so it could be a good deal but then again it couldn't.

Should i get an hp laptop or macbook pro?

T!ka :)

At first I was thinking I'd just get an HP g-series because they're not too expensive and have good specs, and I personally just love HP, but now I'm interested in the macbook pro..is it that much better than an HP? Why are macbooks like double the price? Is it just because its a mac or what? BTW I would be using this laptop mostly for downloading videos and albums and PhotoShop. So speed and being able to multitask are important.

Answer
Well mac are double the price because of the name. Kind of like alienware, you get the exact same hardware but it costs more for no reason. The mac OS isnt good enough to make it worth the extra like $400 for a similar hardware windows laptop lol...
Windows has equivalent software, can run photoshop and etc just like mac.

Speed is based on hardware, if you get a $1000 hp vs a $1000 mac, the hp will have much better hardware.
And all the popular apple myths are wrong, especially about them being virus free lol.

Not sure why the macs just got a huge boost in popularity, is it really because of those dumb commercials? yes im a mac and im a pc, even though that is an false statement, because a PC is a personal computer which would also make mac a pc... So i would say that shows just how ignorant apple is....

EDIT: @ its me
Well there you go, that really shows how ignorant mac users are lmao
1) antivirus software is free, and you still need anti virus software on macs too...
2) blue screens are caused almost all the time from hardware issues or corrupt drivers, macs have a similar screen too....
and guess what, people who arnt retarded like you dont get viruses and dont have hardware problems because we actually know how to use a computer....

3) mac are more expensive (almost double the price) of any other windows computer with the EXACT same hardware. and imovie is not that good, i have used it...
4) "top of the line parts" LOL x 10^10, are you retarded? the hardware in macs arnt made by apple, guess what its the EXACT same hardware as any other computer....
5) "mac wont be obsolete in 2 years" yes you are 100% correct, they become obsolete in months.... using a core 2 dou, a over 5year old processor, that will last so much longer then a sandy bridge core i5/i7 that you could get for the same overall price...

Heres a fun fact, most people who have macs, will use something like boot camp to also be able to boot windows! lol, lets compare that to how many people make hackintosh computers (computer not made by mac able to run the mac os).

intel i5 laptop for video editing image

Tukachinch

I am planning on buying a 14 inch laptop soon. The laptop want is affordable and quite fast. But its con is runs warm (idle) to hot when playing games. I might be going for a Intel i5 processor because it'll drain less battery, less heat, cheaper and its speed is just enough for me. But if I want to go all out and get a i7 core, I want to know how much the difference in heat between the i5 and i7.

Answer
I have a quad core i7 MacBook Pro, and it gets VERY hot, even when merely watching youtube videos or playing games that aren't particularly hardware-demanding. My sister has a MacBook Pro with a dual core i5, and it doesn't generate nearly as much heat. The battery on her computer also lasts a lot longer.

It mainly depends on what you want to do with your computer though. If you want to do demanding picture editing, video editing, or gaming, get the i7. If you only want to do basic schoolwork (i.e. word processing) and internet browsing, then go with the i5.

A screen shot of this program below ans Sony Vegas 10 - http://asimplelife.ca/nle.html

This is not a program that can run on any computer, see below -

If interested, link below takes you to the site, but you can get this $80 program for free. Do this by opening a web browser, surfing over to YouTube. Once there, in the search box on that site, enter 'Pinnacle Studio 14'. Youâre looking for free download, find a search link or video that says that, in the video description, there will be link for a free download. Make sure, before you do this, to make sure your computer can meet or exceed those Specs above, and pay special attention to the AVCHD specs if you have or are going to get a HD camcorder.

What is a great, free video editing software?

Damion E

I need a video software I can use that is free, yet amazing. Almost like a pro video editing software. Something with good effects, and so on. I already have Windows Live Movie Maker, so I am looking for something better than that, once again, for free. Please help. Thank you. :)

Answer
Here are the best of the free video editing programs i have found, and a short little review about each one that i have compiled:
(as with free software there are usually limits, as far as video editors go, free editors usually have lack for file type support, or limited effects)

-Videopad http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html (video editing, limited to avi/wmv/asf and DVD. Unlimited audio tracks, text/picture overlay layer, add subtitles easily, 3D support. Not many effects/transitions, but able to import virtualdub effects to be used. Easy to use interface)
-Videospin http://videospin.com/Redesign/ (video editing, limited to avi/mpg-1/wmv, 2 extra audio tracks, text/picture overlay layer, title/credits, easy to use interface. No extra effects.)
-Lightworks http://www.lightworksbeta.com/ (video editing, requires matrox VFM codec + quicktime installed, requires 3gb+ of ram. Lots of video effects. Support for all formats. 3D support. Harder to use interface)
-TrakAxPC http://www.trakax.com/software/pc/download/ (video editing, limited to avi/wmv and mp3/wma/wav/oog/flac formats, Lots of effects. Clunky interface)

-Wax http://www.debugmode.com/wax/download.htm (2d/3d video effects, only works with .avi files, harder to use interface)
wax is kind of like a vary limited stripped down version of after effects. But its the only effects comp software that is free so, no choice really.

Video converter, so you can convert videos so they can be used with above software (remember when converting video, you are compressing it, and when you compress it you will lose quality you can not get back. If you leave all the parameters of the video the same as source, the quality loss is usually barely noticeable. Also remember just like audio, you can NOT increase quality.)
-Freemake video converter http://freemake.com (convert to many types of videos, very easy to use)

And lastly audio editor for editing audio or music in your videos:
-Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/ (you will need to get the lame mp3 encoder and ffmpeg addons from the download page. Also id suggest getting extra plugins aswell)

what is the best video editing software? i have started making youtube videos but want to improve the quality by using a good editing software but don't want to waste my money on an editing software that wont do a good job. my laptop is not a macbook so i can't use imovie also i don't want to get a software that is overly expensive. it has to do these jobs, basic editing (e.g titles, transitions), slow and fast motion, adding pictures and text into the actual videos themselves (like danisnotonfire&amazingphil) also if they is extra tools that would be good to. thankyou for your help:)

Answer
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, but at the price of $3,000 USD it's probably a bit out of your price range. It's the best, but very expensive and there's probably a steep learning curve. Even Sony Vegas Pro is a bit pricey at something like $600 USD.

I'd suggest Pinnacle Studio 16. It's about $100 USD but it does just about everything you wanted.

What is the best laptop to get/buy to use for video editing from a camcorder?

peach4peac

I am trying to find the best laptop to use for when I want to edit film from my camcorder. I am debating between a Mac book Pro, an Asus K55VD DS71 15.6" or an Asus N76VZ-DS71 17.3" Notebook. I also want to put all of my music on to it and I have a lot of music. Would any of these laptops be good for doing both of these things or is there something else that is better? Thanks!

Answer
I always prefer a pc over a mac but since your main focus is editing media, I would suggest a macbook pro. I can't think of a single, rational person who would pick Windows software over Apple software when it comes to things like media, photo/video editing. The only time the mac is never an option is for basic school work, research and internet browsing.

If 90% of your laptop needs are for video editing, then grab your macbook pro here...if not. stick with pc.

Both question are different first is for video editing software and second question for video shooting is goin on and at that which video editor is best

I hope you got it what i mean
I would appreciate your help.

Answer
Windows Movie Maker may be good enough for what you want to do. Version 2.6 was probably the most versatile and you can get that from http://www.brothersoft.com/downloads/windows-movie-maker.html

There are tutorials for doing all sorts of interesting things with the video with WMM at http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Tutorials/

Another great solutions would be to use Lightworks - http://www.lightworksbeta.com/ and Wax - http://www.lightworksbeta.com/ as a compositor.

http://video-editing-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ reviews 15 video editors between $30 and $100.

A bit more upscale is Sony Vegas - http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegassoftware - which is $600

A lot more upscale is Adobe Premiere and After Effects which will cost around $1,700 - they are difficult to use at first but is the absolute best you can probably do on a PC.

Norpix - http://www.norpix.com/ - are probably one of the best companies to contact regarding connecting and recording multiple cameras. You can connect multiple cameras to a single computer using a specialized input card. These vary greatly in price but you are talking several hundred dollars - http://www.anymaze.com/camera.htm

It also depends on what sort of inputs you're talking about from the cameras, USB, Firewire, coax? so long as the hub has enough bandwidth and the computer is fast enough a simple hub may do for what you want, and so you'll just need the recording software to take care of all the separate inputs.

You may find it cheaper to record each camera directly to it's own DVD recorder then copy all the DVDs to a single computer for compositing and editing - http://www.google.com/search?q=dvd+recorder

If you're talking about live video mixing then you've got lots of choices and many of the mixers have loads of effects you can use. These range from a couple of hundred dollars to thousands - http://www.google.com/search?q=video+mixer

A couple of tips - make sure all the wiring is taped down. Gaffer tape is best - it looks like duct tape but is less sticky (unless you manage to stick it to itself) which means you can safely use it on almost any surface. I can guaranteee you that if you don't use it someone will trip over the wiring.

The other thing is whichever way you decide to do this test it all thoroughly and well in advance of the event. Also test it again just before the event. It's easy to forget to turn something on or leave a wire unplugged.

It is also powerful enough to play/convert native 1080 60p/50p footages and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround.

I need some good free video editing software for Windows?

Amy

I've got Windows 7 on my laptop, and recently me and my friend have been really interested in making videos for YouTube. While MovieMaker cuts the footage together alright, the video playback quality isn't great, and there are no special effects you can add in such as slow motion or photos over video. So I was wondering if there's any reliable software for Windows 7 that lets you edit videos with good special effects, and most importantly - it's FREE. Not just a free trial, but free. Period.

Answer
Stupeflix is a great web based service for creating and uploading videos. Photobucket is a great web based and FREE editing tools. The software behind it comes from Adobe who make some of the best commercial ($$$) photo and video editors. Also check out Jaycut which allows you to export and save your videos! If you need/want more features downloading VideoSpin, VideoPad or VideoThang are great options. Still free, but you have to download the software.

For under $100 you can buy Adobe Premiere Elements.

Pixorial is a great tool for many media - free, with full features, for up to 10gb of video.

There is also new freeware version of Windows Movie Maker that works on Windows Vista, XP and even Windows 7. Microsoft has added and deleted features from each version and this version has all the features from each version plus some extras.

How to get rid of background noise from Polaroid DVF-720?

My camera takes really good video (720p), and any defects from the lack of picture settings on the camera can be fixed in my video editor. But when I take video, the microphone records the noise from the camera itself, which makes a quiet, high-pitched noise and a little bit of static. How could I get rid of that? My editing software has a noise reduction effect, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Answer
There is no way to get rid of it unless you have an audio editor with your video editor. Otherwise that's the way it is unless you can use an external microphone. Not many cameras have that option though.

CPU: Intel i7-3740QM Mobile Processor (4x 2.7GHz/6MB L3 Cache)
Memory: 24GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M w/ 2GB GDDR5

Storage: 120GB SSD (Read: 550MB/s ; Write: 510MB/s)
750GB 7200rpm Laptop HDD
Mostly for DSLR video and image editing, compositing, ad some 3d rendering.
Also, How much of a difference would it make if the CPU were an Intel i7-3630QM Mobile Processor (4x 2.4GHz/6MB L3 Cache) ?

Answer
It'll do just fine. Those are some pretty good specs.

On a loose $1500 budget, what is the most productive configuration for a laptop intended for Adobe CS6?

Manny

I'm planning on using the laptop with Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and After Effects mostly for editing DSLR video and photographs. I need something that will be able to handle multiple HD video layers, some 3D rendering, music production, etc. Is this possible? NOTE: I'd prefer not to hack my video card but I can if I absolutely have to.

Answer
You need something with an extremely fast CPU and lots of RAM. Graphics card doesn't matter as much when it comes to everything you mentioned except 3D modeling. I suggest you look for a workstation-style build, and not a gaming build.
Something like this:
i7-38XXQM and above
16GB+ of RAM
SSD! Solid State Drives are very important if you want your programs and projects to open fast! I suggest either a hybrid drive or an all-out 256GB SSD.
Any graphics card over a GT630M or 7670M will do.

Brand buying advise

Always avoid refurbished units. They only come with a 90 day warranty and have a higher failure rate. The service contacts are normally just a one time replace contract.

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down. What cost you less today is going to cost you more tomorrow.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. Lenovo will not allow people to read instruction on how to access the BIOS menu or to get info on their puters on their web site unless you connect to them thru Facebook. They do this so they can spy on their users. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Chrome books are useless. They are designed by Google to make you dependent on Google. If you can not access the web then you can not do anything.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate.

Choose wisely.

:)

What is the best laptop for me?

I am looking for a laptop that is somewhat powerful. A laptop that I can get for around $600 or less. It needs to be able to run games like GTA and The Sims. I want a large screen with a good resolution. It doesn't have to have a huge storage, around 200 is all I need. I will be doing everything from video editing to video gaming to surfing the web. Any suggestions?

Is it possible to install both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Vista?

64 bit video editing software image

Katner

I've got a vinyl cutter and the software for it requires 32-bit versions of Windows (Vista or prior). But the PC that I want to install it on now has also been used for some photo-editing and some video editing/rendering/encoding with Vegas PRO 64-bit.

I'd like to partition my drive and have both versions of the OS on my PC. Is this possible? And can provide instructions or link me to some.

Answer
Yes 64-bit is backward compatible so it will run any 32-bit program.
There is therefore just no reason to do it but if you really want you can partition your hard drive in 2 parts and install 32-bit in one partition and 64-bit in another.
Again I can not see any reason for that but if you really want you can do it.

Question about which video editing software to use?

Harley

Im looking for a good, free, and easy to use video editing software that i can use to remix videos somewhat. Im planning on taking parts of MLP FIM episodes and adding them together into one video for my friend for his birthday

Answer
Take a look at the tutorials for Windows Movie Maker at http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Tutorials/ - it may be WMM is all you need. It really is foolproof except that it's picky in what file formats it takes and the lack of native support for multiple video and audio tracks are a definite disadvantage (but there are workarounds).

The version 2 series were probably the most versatile, you can find them here - http://www.brothersoft.com/downloads/windows-movie-maker.html - but you'll have problems installing the older versions on Windows 7.

Other free video editors are...

Wax - http://www.debugmode.com/wax/ - this is also a compositor - a bit like Adobe's After Effects - - unlimited video and audio tracks
VideoLAN Movie Creator - http://videolan.org/vlmc/ - up to 64 audio and video tracks
TrakAxPC - www.trakax.com/software/pc/
VideoSpin - http://videospin.com/ - just 1 video track so you may as well use WMM
VideoPad - the free version - http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/
Lightworks - http://www.lightworksbeta.com/ - I like this one - unlimited tracks ?
Serif MoviePlus - http://serif.com/free-video-editing-software/ - unlimited tracks ?
Ezvid - ezvid.com/ - 32 video and audio tracks

Another is Zwei-Stein. This is a good editor but I found the interface to be absolutely horrible.

VirtualDub, RAD Video tools, AVITricks and Avidemux are also good tools you should look at. Although not full editors like the others they have some useful features.

Lightworks and Wax together are a very good video editing system for free.

All are safe, at least from the sites I've linked to.

If you want to spend some money then there are reviews of 14 video editors under $100 at http://video-editing-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

More costly are video editors like Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere. Both of which are very good. Premiere is probably more advanced but harder to learn everything it can do.
