Do this laptop is good for HD video editing and screen capture ?

Tony

Guys I want to make YouTube videos so I'm looking to buy a laptop this one
[ HP Pavilion G6-2301AX Laptop (APU Quad Core A8/ 4GB/ 500GB/ Win8/ 2.5GB Graph) ]

http://www.flipkart.com/hp-pavilion-g6-2301ax-laptop-apu-quad-core-a8-4gb-500gb-win8-2-5gb-graph/p/itmdgtjcmdusnsky?pid=COMDGTJCRYXXV8CE&ref=866d6d15-156a-4034-b274-0007c59d35f8

So please tell me is it good enough for hd video editing /rendering and screen capture my Photoshop works it costs around 530$ and I can't spend much more than that so I want a advice from experts please

Answer
It has pretty good graphics, but the A8-4500M is a bit weak at video edit work, and the A8 gets hot, and especially hot with the added 7670M in dual graphics, plus the HP brand (and Acer and Dell and Lenovo Essentials series) tend to overheat worse than average. It might be a good choice for budget gaming, but the CPU is more important in video edit, and you do want to eventually have 8GB RAM if you can.
In this, and the earlier few years of annual surveys, HP does not do well.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2020725/apple-macbooks-lead-in-laptop-features-and-reliability.html
I also found that snapdeal and a few other sites do beat Flipkart in pricing, and you need to shop around carefully at all of your options before large price purchases.

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php
A8-4500M scores 2719 and the dual graphics does not add much to the HD 7670M anyway.
http://www.flipkart.com/samsung-np350e5c-s01in-laptop-3rd-gen-ci3-4gb-750gb-win8-1gb-graph/p/itmdeh2t6nqhgyse?pid=COMDEH2SRNBYVC2J
is a better choice. i3-3110M and HD 7670M with a larger 750GB HDD. Samsung is using 2x2GB to make the 4GB, and that works better than 1x4GB, but there is no open slot, so to get to 8GB, would need 2x4GB cards and have 2 used cards to sell. i3-3110M scores 3028 and will not overheat as easily as the HP. Rs. 34490 is a little higher than Rs. 33990 and does not include the accidental damage.
The HD 4000 should be good enough for video edit and photoshop but the i5-3210M is much stronger CPU. Price is up again Rs 36799. http://www.snapdeal.com/product/samsung-np300e5ca08in-laptop-intel-core/760620?pos=12;86
Looking to find better still.
and this in between is a graphics improve with an i3-3120M

For Mac, there's a compromise program available for the Mac, that's Final Cut Express. It's sort of the consumer version of Final Cut Pro/Studio, which is intended for professionals in the video editing field. It's also very expensive.

Do you know good free video editing software?

barrett a

I need something simple, all i want to do is very simple video editing and I have windows vista so please don't recommend the windows editing software I have on my computer, it sucks.

Answer
There really isn't much of anything. The only free options on Windows are either limited in capability (like VirtualDub) or barely hanging on to development (t@b ZS4, CineFX). The last decent option was Avid Free DV, which is now discontinued.

So aside from WMM, your best option is to save up about $100 and try a commercial option such as Adobe Premiere Elements, Sony Vegas Studio, or Pinnacle.

However, Windows Movie Maker and Windows Live Movie Maker do not edit .mts video files, and I can'd find a converter software that 1, isn't complete bs and downloads three, four things unto my computer only to tell me its a free trial, or 2, a good HD .mts movie maker software that won't cost me a fortune. Does anybody have any good advice for me? Thank you!!

does anyone knows a good video editing software?

MysticGoha

which supports .mkv files ???

Answer
the software I use for editing my videos is pinnacle studio HD. In my opinion it's a great piece of software. I've been using pinnacle studio for years and I have tried other software but for me pinnacle studio HD is the easiest to use. I've never had any problems using pinnacle studio HD. If you're looking for something that's easy to use and that's very good I would greatly recommends pinnacle studio HD.

I've used other software in the past and some of the software is hard to learn how to use but pinnacle studio is very easy to learn.

I am looking for a great video editing laptop that is under $1000.?

Sean

I will only be using this computer for video editing and I have no preferences on brand. Thanks!

Answer
Yeah? and I'm looking for a high performance sports car for under $10,000.00.

If you want a "great" video editing laptop, it's going to cost you pretty decent money. You're going to want an i7 processor with at least 8 gb of ram, and a good video card with at least 1gb of dedicated video ram. That's going to cost you at least $1,000 in most cases.

I bought mine about a year ago, and got a student discount, and it still cost me $1200....and it was the bare minimum.

What are some good video editing computers for under 1000?

Alex G

the lower price the better but i think i want to take up just making videos and stuff and i dont care on mac or pc and i dont care if it is a laptop or a desktop just the lower the better
also im pretty good with pcs and can easily add an upgrade or two

Answer
Get the cheapest mac-mini ($599) and hook it up to your current keyboard, mouse, and monitor (yes you can do that).

The latest version of iMovie ('09) is simply amazing. It blows away any affordable video editing software on the PC. And best of all, it comes with the Mac! It now also supports direct publishing to YouTube.

Check out the videos on the iMovie page to get a sense for how incredible this program is:
http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/#trim

If you're looking to get into video editing, this is the way to go. The mac-mini is a surprisingly powerful machine and in the future you can start using final-cut studio.

For video/movie editing, which laptop is the best?

Pumpkin

Acer,Mac,Dell,or Vaio(or any other)
is the most suitable and optimized for video editting??

Answer
Mac Book Pro. I'm a PC user, and at work, all video, audio (everything audio is best, too bad for me!), and art production is done on Apple. I've heard that because the Apple name was used for computers, there had to be a rule that it was cutting edge for musical production (since the Beatles' label was Apple). Might be a rumor, but.... Everyone makes fun of me because I still use a PC, and my laptop is a HP. The Mac Book Pro 13 inch screen was voted number 3 best laptop in the Consumer Reports June 2011 issue (the Mac Book Air was number one, the Toshiba Protege was number 2), and performance was outstanding. Granted, the thing that I like about PC is the amount of available software, and the options. Macs give you less options, and a lot less software, but some people like it that way. If you decide to go with PC, there are good programs that can handle video editting, but if you look at most studios, it's done with Macs. Good luck!

Looking for a cheap gaming laptop?

Windows 7
Dual Core 2.0Ghz

How much would this run me and what would be a good choice?
Can anyone be at all HELPFUL?
Thank you +ST+FD+, Do you think that the second laptop would be able to run something like WoW, Skyrim, EQ, Etc.? .... dont really know much about comps.

Answer
You can find reviews of laptops at CNET. They have reviews for the latest laptops on the market.
http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/?tag=hdr;brandnav
I recommend DELL laptops, because in my opinion they make the best laptops out there. I still use my DELL Inspiron 1501 that's nearly 5 years old. Take a look at this laptop.
It's called DELL Inspiron 15R and it's cheap and I think it's bes for the price. Specs:

Processor 2nd Generation Intel® Core⢠i5-2430M processor 2.40 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.00 GHz
Operating SystemGenuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64-Bit, English
Display15.6" High Definition (720p) LED Display with TrueLifeâ¢
Memory34GB3 Single Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz
Hard Drive 500GB4 SATA hard drive (5400RPM)
Optical Drive 8X Tray Load CD/DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive) with Roxio Creator 2011
Video CardIntel HD Graphics/HD Graphics 3000 with up to 1.6GB Dynamic Video Memory
Warranty1 Year Mail-in Repair in 10-14 days after Remote Diagnosis
Weight5.84 lbs

Price: $600

The only thing that sucks is the graphics card. It has Intel VGA, which is not suited for gaming. However, there's a more expensive version of this laptop, which costs $724 and has a dual graphics card. Specs:

Processor 2nd Generation Intel® Core⢠i5-2430M processor 2.40 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.00 GHz
Operating SystemGenuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64-Bit, English
Display15.6" High Definition (720p) LED Display with TrueLifeâ¢
Memory36GB3 Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz
Hard Drive 640GB4 SATA hard drive (5400RPM)
Optical Drive 8X Tray Load CD/DVD Burner (Dual Layer DVD+/-R Drive) with Roxio Creator 2011
Video CardAMD Radeon⢠HD 6470M (64-bit) 512MB (Dual)
Warranty1 Year Basic Support
Weight5.84 lbs

I think this laptop is worth the money.

EDIT: I know many things for computers for a 15 year old kid. My goal is to become a programmer and I am very interested in technology. However, I'm not a gamer, so therefore I don't know much about gaming.

The best window laptop for video editing?

LenaH

I'm looking for a window laptop that is compatible for video editing. It doesn't have to be portable because i'll be using the laptop mostly at home. Right now i use Mac OS X (iMovie) and i want the Sony Vegas program, which means i need to get a window laptop. So do you know any laptop that is compatible for video editing?

P.S Hopefully the maximum price is $1000.

Answer
I dont recommend a laptop for video editing because sometimes the rendering can take a long time and overheat your laptop. Laptops arent really designed for video editing or gaming.

You should get a desktop PC with a Quad processor and good video card and RAM. You can get a nice one for $600-$700. and unlike a laptop, you can expand the desktop and upgrade as much as you want.

Camcorder connected to laptop? Video Editing Software?

Kurt H

http://www.target.com/DC210-Canon-DVD-Camcorder/dp/B000M5022O/sr=1-2/qid=1195750912/ref=sr_1_2/602-1807729-5979811?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Advd%20camcorder&page=1

I'm thinking of asking for that for Christmas, but I want to know if you can connect that to a laptop. If so, would the cable be included with that camera (or any camcorder for that matter) or would I need to buy my own?

Also I love using photoshop for image editing, but is there an Adobe product for video editing?

Answer
This camcorder only comes with composite video output so it will only connect to a TV unless you have a video capture card on your laptop which most don't.

To edit the video, you'll need to take the finalized disc from this camcorder to your laptop, rip the files to your hard disk, then use which ever software you are using for video editing.

Video:

Hello! I have been through tons of video editors and none have seemed to satisfy my needs!

I think the best if Sony Vegas. Any version is good. I have downloaded the full version of the internet and I didn't use a torrent, keygen, seed, patch, or a crack. I have scanned the program and it is completely safe. I have used it and it is amazing and works great!

It has text effects, cropping, panning, can edit photos, coloring, audio editing, transitions, media generators, plenty of Video FX, and much, much more.

I would recommend it to anybody. When you first open it, you will probably think it's hard to use but it's totally not. If you go on Youtube, there are plenty of channels and videos dedicated to teach how to use Sony Vegas.

I've read most of the comments and I don't believe I've read anything about viruses, trojans, spyware, adware, malware, or anything like that. Most people seem satisfied, actually. If you ever need help, IM me. I am usually online and I can help you with anything.

Laptop for video editing & gaming?

Award Winn

I am currently searching for a Laptop which I can use for video editing and gaming.
I am very selective mind you so I'm not after something which can handle high performance on the latest games. I merely want a PC laptop which can handle Sims 3, Oblivion (modded) and Civilization 4 (Rise of Man Mod) and I find it hard to understand graphic card names.

I've already been researching for durable laptops, Dell being the worse, Toshiba I know being okay as I sat on mine enough to cup it and it still works, but I want something that wont burn out and everything is pointing to a 'Thinkpad'.

These are a few of the links I have found, I viewed a few of Yahoo Answers so I started looking for Intel, hope I found some but I want someone's advice who understands these specks more then I do. To me these are just a lot of numbers and letters but I'm guessing I want more then 2 GB ram, over 250 GB space though I'd rather have 500, sound is not a problem that's what earphones are for, it wont be on the internet, Windows 7 unless I find it has problems emulating XP for games like Quake or System Shock 2.

Ya don't need to read everything, but I'm looking forward to receiving some responses from you guys :) If I left anything out do let me know so I can repost this with better efford, once again thanks for reading and am looking forward to hearing from you :)

Answer
If I was to choose those i would choose the first one.

http://www.ballicom.co.uk/new-products/lenovo-thinkpad-edge-15-0301--core-i5-430m-226-ghz--156-tft.p513227.html

I would choose it because it has a intel core i5 processor and it looks like it has turbo boost. That would make your video editing and gaming go faster, along with your computing experience.

Also it has intel HD Graphics, that would be good for a smooth gaming experience and also be good for smooth video editing as well.

What kind of video editing laptop should i get?

Steven T

I will be going to college for video making. What kind of laptop would be best and what should i have on it? Mac or PC? advantages, disadvantages, and the best computers for each

Answer
PC,
Laptop: Toshiba http://explore.toshiba.com/laptops/qosmio/G50 Dell XPS, or Sony.

I would then download Ubuntu and make the laptop a dual boot and install Cinelerra, Kino, Lives, Pitivi, Blender, Inscape, Scribus all for free.

I would stay away from a mac for the following reasons...

PC=Variety of specs, options, quality, prices, vendors, support
Mac=One vendor, limited options, still more expensive. Look below for more information..

Contrary to belief, Macs are not better quality. They use a lot of the same parts as PCs. Apple also has been changing suppliers to try to "lower the price" and thus lowering quality. Even with the lower prices, Macs still cost more, they spend a higher percent of budget trying to make it look pretty, and marketing.

Today, Macs use the same hardware as PCs. Why spend extra to get the same CPU chips, graphics cards and OS X isn't as secure as you think.. Look below.

WINDOWS ADVANTAGES:

Aprox 90% of the market is Windows. Most PCs include windows already pre-installed.
1) There are a number of websites that still require Internet Explorer to view and IE for Mac Stinks (it is really ies4osx which is the Windows IE version running really buggy on OS X and illegal if you don't have a legitimate copy of Windows, too many problems with it).
2) More supported peripherals (printers and other things you hook into the computer) on Windows.
4) If you like the Dock on OS X (Mac) google/yahoo rocketdock, objectdoc.

I Would also install Avira AntiVir, Avast, Comodo Firewall on the Vista since there are free versions.

LINUX ADVANTAGES:

1) Install Linux, and then get tons of stuff for free. Updates done, etc.. Linux is very easy and has tons of software that will be updated automatically. (Checking a checkbox in either two ways to install (Add/Remove or Synaptic Package Manager), search for something I want, check a box and click apply)
2) If you like the effects on a Macintosh go yahoo or google COMPIZ FUSION. It can do just about any cool effect a Mac can do and more...
3) If you like the Dock on OS X (Mac) google/yahoo Cairo Dock, avant window navigator.
4) Linux is MORE SECURE. I surf the internet and can even run some windows programs on Linux.

LINUX OS
If you are worried about viruses, spyware, security, Try Linux (it is free), I have included some information about Linux and links so you are not lost if you decide to try it.

Easily turn your system into a Dual booting computer with Linux, fast, safe and secure, easy to use (contrary to belief). You then get the best of both worlds (Windows with all of its supported products, freely go online without the worry)

My Recommendation would be either Ubuntu (Most popular and well supported linux), Kubuntu (KDE version of Ubuntu),
Freespire (has all windows codecs for watching videos, dvds out of the box),
PCLINUXOS (very nice Linux, easy to use and polished),
There are so many good versions of linux besides these.

PLEASE NOTE: In linux there are many forms of Windows Environments, the two main ones are KDE (K Desktop) and GNOME. Ubuntu uses GNOME, KUBUNTU is a KDE version of Ubuntu, PCLINUXOS, Freespire use KDE... The differences in the window environments (DESKTOPS) control how you configure, open close the windows, the appearances of the windows... linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting helps with printer support. ScreenCasts.ubuntu.com shows video and non-video help with learning to work with Ubuntu.

There are many good Linux distributions for different reasons, distrowatch.com, polishlinux.org, desktoplinux.com
are good websites for overall understanding linux.

Installing Linux in general is very simple and much more secure than OS X(Macintosh) and free.
Also, most Linux distributions have a LiveCD which means you can try without installing...
UBUNTU, KUBUNTU, FREESPIRE, PCLINUXOS, etc.. all have live CDS.
All you have to do is..
A) to download .iso file off the internet from the Linux website
B) burn the .iso file to a CD or DVD (Make sure your burning software can burn an ISO or get InfraRecorder http://infrarecorder.org/)
C) restart the computer with the CD in the drive
D) As computer is restarting, press on F12 Key a bunch of times to get a boot menu
E) Select the option to boot from CD or DVD.

Click on this link and follow instructions up to the point of "Once the system has started up...", (the rest is how to backup windows) for an easy picture guide for steps A-E above http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/
For easy instructions on setting up Dual Boot http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_windows_xp_and_linux_xp_installed_first.htm

ANOTHER QUICK NOTE: People have been able to run OS X on a PC since the PC and Mac use the same hardware. This is not legal and I would not recommend it for security and legal reasons

But, I have included a link to show you, purpose is to show that there is nothing special about the MAC.

A)Price...
A similar equipped PC is much cheaper to purchase than Mac. Lets use Dell (but you can compare with another PC Brand if you like)

*****************(LAPTOP)
Dell Inspiron Laptop $849 dropped to $799
15" Screen
CPU: (upgrade to) 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
Memory: 3GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Hard Drive: 320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
Optical Drive: Blu-ray Disc Combo (DVD+/-RW + BD-ROM) - WRITES DVDS,CDS, READS Blue-Ray Disks

Macbook $1349 just dropped to $1224
13" Screen (SMALLER)
CPU: 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (SAME)
Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 (SAME)
Memory: (upgrade to) 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (LESS RAM)
Hard Drive (upgrade to) 250GBSerial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm (SMALLER HARD DRIVE)
Optical Drive: (DVD-ROM/CD-RW) - (Writes CDs, DVDs, cannot read Blue-Ray) (WORSE AND 1/2 SPEED)

****************(DESKTOP)

PLEASE NOTE: I am comparing Apple Mac's vs Dells best deal. If you decide that you must have an all-in one. The Dell all-in-one has more ram, wireless keyboard and mouse and equivalent to $400 for free making the Imac still more expensive when you upgrade the Imac to try to match. Personally I don't think the All-in-Ones are a good choice, and consider them overpriced, lack expandability and repairs both more expensive and require the entire computer.

PS: Apple knows that they must make Macintosh look different than PC so all Macs except the Mac Pro will not have a tower option. Apple's low end lacks expandability but it makes the Mac "look different", if Mac had a tower for low-end, more people would realize the similarities between the two.

Dell: (Right Now) Specs Below costs $809
CPU: 2.4 GHZ Dell Inspiron QUAD (4 Processor) CORE
SCREEN: 20inch Screen
MEMORY: 3GB Ram
HARD DRIVE: 500 GB hard Drive
OPTICAL DRIVE: 16x DVD/CD Read/Writer
GRAPHICS: (upgrade to ) ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 128MB

The Best Deal Mac is not the Mac Mini since it has no monitor, keyboard, mouse, very skimpy on options and setup... IMac is better price than the Mac Mini.

IMac ($1400)
CPU: 2.4 GHZ DUAL (2 Processor) CORE (SLOWER CPU)
SCREEN: 20inch Screen
MEMORY: (upgrade to) 2GB Ram (LESS RAM)
HARD DRIVE: (upgrade to ) 500 GB hard Drive
OPTICAL DRIVE: 8x DVD Reader/Writer (1/2 speed)
GRAPHICS: ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO 128MB

************************END OF DESKTOP

B) SECURITY:

Mac OS X was hacked in 2006 under 30 minutes, and hacked within 2 minutes in a contest in 2008. Linux and Vista were not able to be hacked until another day when restrictions were lowered.
All macs are standardized with Cameras, if your system gets hacked, the hacker would more likely be able to turn on your camera.
Please Note: All OS's have vulnerabilities.

C) VIRUSES

The argument that OS X has less viruses is true, but that is against XP, BUT Mac OS X has viruses, a friend of mine has a virused Mac. As more users use Macs, more viruses will come out for it. Especially when users think "they are safe".

Google/Yahoo Mac Viruses

D) WINDOWS LICENSE is discounted with PCs

You do not pay the full price, for instance Dell -> you pay $50 or less for Vista Home Premium If you buy a Mac and want Vista, you pay full price.

D) EXPANDABILITY & REPAIR...

With AppleCare you have to put down $300 and there is no guarantee the computer will be fixed, may cost more.. Repairs are more expensive than PCs since the IMac, Mac Mini are compact units, and Apple charges a premium for their services. Some repairs can be done by another repair service but the compact design of the computer causes problems.
With an IMac, if the problem is with the monitor, the whole computer would have to be brought in.
IMac and Mac mini lack expansion.

E) PROBLEMS

Macintosh's are far from bug free. Sample of problems: Overheating Macbooks, OS X- not responding to keyboard, some units with 16bit screens, etc. Apple statistics are misleading since Mac users with problem machines are more likely to go out and buy a new computer than PC users. Apple is lowering prices which means you can expect lower quality than in the past. Apple had switched the manufacturers producing parts. OS X also has problems slowing down.

Need help with video editing with new camera?

Steven

I have:
Toshiba Laptop

Samsung HMX Q10 camcorder

SanDisk SD card

All this stuff is way over my head. So I need help, from tech savy people. I want to record video footage. take that footage and edit it(clean it up a bit and add text and sound). Put it on you tube.

I have tried to use intelli studio(program that comes with my camera, but when I play the footage in Intelli it lags and skips. I have 83GB free space, on my laptop, so I dont see why it would be slow. I cannot get windows movie maker to upload the videos. I heard stuff about converters, .mvi mp4's blah blah. Bottom line is, I'm lost and confused

Preferably I would like an editing program that is free forever (like windows movie maker), not free 30 day trial then buy.
Thank you so much

Answer
Windows video editing software:
Free download the trial version: Adobe After Effects
http://www.brothersoft.com/adobe-after-effects-download-76859.html
Sony Vegas:
http://www.brothersoft.com/vegas-pro-62209.html
You'd better get a total video converter. If you can't import some special video formats into the video editing software, directly change the format with this video converter.
http://www.1videoconverter.com/total-video-converter.html
Hope it helps!

Paige

I want to put some clips together to make it all one video, and do several other things like have cool effects and titles and all that good stuff,
Whats a good free video editing software I can get online?
That's simple? And virus free?

Thanks so much for your help. I really appreiciate it. :)
Windows movie marker won't ever work for me.

Answer
Photobucket is a great web based and FREE editing tools. The software behind it comes from Adobe who make some of the best commercial ($$$) photo and video editors. Also check out Jaycut which allows you to export and save your videos! If you need/want more features downloading VideoSpin, VideoPad or VideoThang are great options. Still free, but you have to download the software. For under $100 you can buy Adobe Premiere Elements.

There is also new freeware version of Windows Movie Maker that works on Windows Vista, XP and even Windows 7. Microsoft has added and deleted features from each version and this version has all the features from each version plus some extras.

Best Video editing software?

James

I'm looking for an editing software, mainly for text and background animation for no more than $300 that is somewhat user friendly. Thank you.

Answer
Video Editing:

Lightworks; semi-free alternative to Avid ($1,200), Adobe Premiere ($240/year), and Sony Vegas ($600).
http://lwks.com

Lightworks has been used in the movie industry for more than 20 years. Lightworks also has the fastest workflow in the industry.

Lightworks used to cost more than $1,000, but now Lightworks Pro costs $60/year and you can download a free version from their website.

Editors using Lightworks have produced numerous internationally renowned and Oscar and Emmy award-winning feature films and television programs, including The King's Speech, The Departed, Mission Impossible, Braveheart, and Pulp Fiction.

Lightworks is FREE if you don't need pro video codecs and you can use the free version as long as you want.

3D Animation and VFX Compositing:

Blender; free alternative to Maya ($3,700) and After Effects ($240/year).
http://blender.org

Blender has a complete VFX pipeline in one single software package. Blender has tools for modeling, sculpting, rigging, animation, rotoscoping, chroma keying (green screen), motion tracking, smoke, fire, and fluid simulation, particles, destruction, physics, color grading, node compositing, and video editing.

After Effects uses "layer-based" compositing. Blender uses "node-based" compositing similar to Nuke ($4,155); used in the movie industry http://thefoundry.co.uk/products/nuke

Blender has more advanced features but After Effects is easier to use.

Blender is 100% free with full functionality, no adware, no spyware, and no viruses, and you're allowed to use Blender in any production without having to pay for anything.

Do mac laptops and computers have video editing programs?

KoolDude

Do they? And what video formats (such as avi, wmv, mpeg, etc....) do they accept.

Answer
Sure do - video editing came to Macs way before it came to Windows computers. All current consumer Macs come with Apple's iMovie application pre-installed for free, but there are plenty of other options if you want to go semi-pro or even fully pro. The next step up for many users would be Apple Final Cut Express, and many Hollywood movies these days are edited on the high end Final Cut Pro. (All these applications are Apple-branded and Mac-only - no Windows version - though of course you can export your work in plenty of formats that will play on all platforms.)

For more info on iMovie, see http://www.apple.com/imovie/ and follow the links from that page. In particular, regarding formats and compatibility, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290

If you want more info on the higher end apps, see http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/ or http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/ Apple also makes companion high-end apps that do soundtracks, video grading, digital effects etc - see the links on the left of the Final Cut Pro page. But note that that these are serious professional tools, with a considerable learning curve, and hefty price-tags, so start with iMovie! And don't overlook iDVD (also free with a new Mac), which helps you create professional-looking DVDs with animated menus, etc, just like store-bought ones.

Finally, you also have non-Apple apps that are designed to run on Macs. For one 3rd-party option, Google "Adobe Premiere".

Mac or PC laptops for video editing?

rymen7

I plan to make skateboard videos and want to no if a Mac or PC laptop would be better??

Answer
Good gawds - talk about childish answers. We've obviously got Mac and PC fans that have no real information other than promoting their favorite platform.

The truth is - EITHER. But out of the box I would say a Mac simply because iMovie is far superior to Windows Movie Maker. Although WMM has become a fairly usable program with each consecutive release.

If you plan on using something more powerful than iMovie or WMM - say something in the prosumer category like Adobe Premiere Pro on the PC or Final Cut Pro on the Mac then use the platform of your choice. Bare this in mind - a lower end laptop PC won't cut it - but you won't have to spend the change you'd have to spend on a Mac. A Core2 duo CPU, 2 Gig or RAM or more, a good sized hard drive and a IEEE1394 interface (firewire/iLink) will get you started. Personally I'd stay away from AMD CPUs, but that's your choice. I'd also upgrade from a Vista 32bit OS to the 64bit Ultimate. You can pick up a laptop like that for under $1000 pretty easily.

Best free video editing software for windows?

John Doe

Running windows 7 64bit. Anyone know any good, virus free, video editing software? Thanks!

Answer
Windows Movie Maker versions 2.1 and 2.6 were probably the best, or at least the most configurable and you can get it here - http://www.brothersoft.com/downloads/windows-movie-maker.html

For a comparison of the different versions see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Movie_Maker

Take a look at some of the tutorials at http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Tutorials/

If you don't want to use WMM then you've still got quite a choice...

Wax - http://www.debugmode.com/wax/ - this is also a compositor - a bit like Adobe's After Effects
Zwei-Stein - http://www.thugsatbay.com/tab/?q=zweistein - it's good but their interface is simply awful
TrakAxPC - http://www.trakax.com/software/pc/
VideoSpin - http://www.videospin.com/
VideoPad - the free version - http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/
Lightworks - http://www.lightworksbeta.com/ - I like this one
MoviePlus - http://www.serif.com/free-video-editing-software/

VirtualDub, RAD Video tools, AVITricks and Avidemux are also good tools you should look at. Although not full editors like the others they have some useful features.

Lightworks and Wax together are a good video editing system for free.

What is the best video editing software for Windows 7?

I need a movie editing program that is as close to iMovie as possible involving iMovie's cutting and other features. I need one that isnt confusing at all, has a good interface, and will let me cut parts and add awesome affects. And one that is free to run on Windows 7.

Answer
The top-ranked video edting software for PC:Ulead Video Studio, Adobe Premiere Elements and SonyVegas. But I think they are recommended for experienced users, they do take some learning and much more expensive.
If you are looking for something advanced but still user friendly with reasonable price,I will recommend DVD Slideshow Builder. Very easy to use with professional features and same sort of layout as Movie Maker however a lot more powerful.Everything is laid out in an easy to follow step by step instruction.
Free trial:

So I need something that will allow me to make cool presentations, type papers and notes, and do research. I need something that has a good amount of battery time. Brand buying advice

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Choose wisely.

what are some good old and new movie maker programs(such as ulead or magix, different programs though)

Answer
Ulead is one of the best ones, along with Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas...The best free video editing software believe it or not is Windows Movie Maker. If you need free software take a look at some of the options.

Windows MovieMaker 2 is a capable little editor and ships free with virtually all new XP computers these days package.

GoPro Movie editing software, FREE?

WilG

I just got a GoPro and was planning on Windows Movie Maker for Vista 64 bit like usual. However, I couldn't open the files up since they are in mp4. I don't want a program for converting but rather anther free alternative to Windows Movie maker that can open mp4 as well as some effects. Also, it would be really nice if it had a "reverse" video feature. Thanks

Answer
With Aunsoft video converter, you can also convert videos for video editing software like Adobe Premiere, Windows Movie Maker, Sony Vegas, and upload video to YouTube and MySpace to share videos.
