What is an easy to learn free downloadable video editing software?

Wasim Akra

I tried searching for softwares to create this movie slideshow but didnt get a good one. They are either trial versions where the movie created bears a watermark of the software or not with many features. Just basic.
What I need is a freely available, easy to use, good featured video editing software.
If anyone could suggest one, help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Answer
Here I highly recommend iPixSoft Video Slideshow Maker which help you make such slideshow from pictures and music in minutes and publish video, swf, exe, screensaver or share online with friends and family easily.
If you would like to upload it to Youtube,Yahoo Video,Myspace Video or other video websites, simply publish mp4 video format and upload to your Youtube account. It is very easy and you did not need any crazy skillz.
It is a real powerful software,I hope you will enjoy it.

What type of pc should I buy for livestreaming?

perfect laptop for video editing image

Anime Otak

I am looking for a pc or laptop that would be perfect for livestreaming xbox 360 gameplay and doing a bit of video editing. I am not looking for a pc to play games on because I'm not a pc gamer at all.
Please help I don't want to spend tons of money on a gaming pc if im really not going to play anything on it.
I have had a gaming pc in the past and my livestreaming was pretty laggy or wasen't the best quality.

Answer
If you want it for this one pure reason, then the cheapest option would be to build it yourself. Don't worry if you are new, just look up 'how to build a PC newegg' in youtube.

I would recommend any cheap motherboard with at least 2 RAM slots
An i7 processor, can be an old generation, doesn't really matter so much, you will be able to get by easily with an i5

around 16GB memory (preferably 4x4GB)
and depending on how many videos you will edit, probably 500GB SSD (much faster for exporting vids)

Again I would recommend building a PC just for video editing as other pre-built PCs can include other things you won't want for video editing. Plus, if you want to make it into a gaming PC for whatever reason, or just a regular PC, you can just put more parts in.

If you don't want to spend much money at all, you can probably make a decent video editing PC for under $500, especially if you buy 2nd hand components (especially the SSDs as they are expensive and don't wear out over time, unlike HDDs that do wear out).

Hope this helped.

What is a good video editing laptop?

Ryan

I'm a college student, and I will need to run a video editing program on a computer, and its gonna need to be a laptop. I'll probably run Sony Vegas pro, on it. So I need to find something thats under 900 bucks that will get the job done without much lag. I've been looking into a few asus laptops but wanted to get a second opinion.

Answer
I was oging to advise a mac, but your budget isn't good for that.

GO WITH THE ASUS models. you have good instincts my frined, the ASUS models are the best laptops on the market. there isn't even a debate when their name is in the ring.

The other brands, dell toshiba, hp sony, alienware, they all use ASUS componants in their highend laptops, so why pay the middle man? plus the ASYS laptops all come with a great 2 year parts andlabor warrenty plus a 1 years accidental spill warrenty.

If you haven't yet go to http://www.newegg.com and look for their best asus deals. they have several at your price range and will be perfect for video editing.

Before I go, please add me to oyur contacts list, when or if oyu reach level 4 I will do the same, but I'd like to have you be part of my rebellion on teaching those about the ASUS brand.

Join my ranks

Good luck

The rebellion is waiting

I uploaded a YouTube Video in 480p but the Highest Quality Available is 240p?

video editing software 4k image

Nick

So I uploaded a Youtube Video (using Final Cut Pro X as my editing software) in 480p (I made sure to see if I didn't accidentally choose a lower quality). Now when I checked my newly uploaded video, the highest quality I could play it with was 240p. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and how I can fix it?

Answer
If you JUST uploaded the video, it is still processing. YouTube re-processes the video for every quality aspect, starting from the quickest (144p) to the slowest to process (1080p/4k/"Original"). Wait for another hour and you should have qualities available.

If after a long wait time it is still offering 240p then it's simply a rendering fault with FInal Cut Pro X, and ultimately the resolution accounted for 240p.

Can a Macbook Pro handle both a music studio and a movie editing+effects software?

RLholier-a

I'm starting up a music studio, but I'm also looking to move my filmmaking outside of class and setting it up on the same computer if possible, could a Macbook pro handle both good though? As both will be dedicated and take up a lot of memory I'd assume (film is killer after all on that)

Answer
Yes it can. I am on a MacBook Pro and I do a lot of HD (4k and 1080p) video editing and MacBook Pro works fine.

Answer
I made this entirely with freeware, so yes, there are excellent free video editors out there:

How about three very good freeware video editor programs, Freemake, FileLab, or VSDC? Each is safe, fully functioning, no watermarks, will not ask for money, and are recent releases that are HD capable. Take your pick:

Brand buying advise

Always avoid refurbished units. They only come with a 90 day warranty and have a higher failure rate. The service contacts are normally just a one time replace contract.

You get what you pay for. Systems with high end parts with low prices are to be viewed with suspicion. They have to cut corners somewhere to get the price down. What cost you less today is going to cost you more tomorrow.

Apple makes a good quality laptop. The problem comes when it requires service or minor upgrades. It is near impossible to do anything with them. They even glue the battery and hard drive down so you can not change it. They solder the ram to the logic board so you can not increase it. They lock up most of the software so your stuck with what they approve.

Lenovo has serious stand behind their product problems. They bought IBM PC division and proceeded to drive the quality of the system into the ground. Their customer service is well below par. They even makes Dell customer service look good. Lenovo will not allow people to read instruction on how to access the BIOS menu or to get info on their puters on their web site unless you connect to them thru Facebook. They do this so they can spy on their users. The last and final thing to remember about them is they are a Chinese Government own company. It is up to you if you want to trust them.

Toshiba, Panasonic, Sony should be avoided because of their heavy modification of Windows and the drivers. If you remove some of the bloat they install, you can cripple the system.

Acer, Gateway, and eMachines should be avoided period. Low end system that are driving the race to the bottom.

Dell once made a good system and fell from grace. They are now struggling to regain their place in the market. Customer service is one of many problems with this company.

Alienware are glorified Dells and are more name then product. Priced extremely high for what you get. They do perform but you can get the same for less by looking around, just not packaged to be eye candy to the gamers.

Samsung has a history of using cheap parts in critical areas. Capacitors has been one area Samsung has a known history of going cheap, causing units to fail early. For that reason I would avoid them.

ASUS and HP do not modify Windows as bad as the other manufacturers. They have excellent build quality. They might add a lot of bloat but they also makes it easy to get rid of it.

Ultrabooks are the higher end of Wintel laptops but they have some of the same concerns as Apple. They make it next to impossible to change any hardware in them. Service of them will have to be done by the manufacturers. With most of them, you can not change your own battery or hard drive. They are designed to catch your eye but they are not any more special then other laptops except for the fact that they are slim or thin. Your paying for it being thin and slim. For the money your going to spend on it you can buy a much better laptop with more power.

Chrome books are useless. They are designed by Google to make you dependent on Google. If you can not access the web then you can not do anything.

Hybrids are the worse of the worse. The flip or detachable touch screens are just a disaster waiting to happen.

Never buy an All In One. They are far worst then laptops of any kind to service and they have a higher failure rate.

Choose wisely.

:)

How do i fix video sound lag on my youtube videos?

i made a video today with my laptop webcam. i uploaded it on youtube, but the sound and picture is off by 3-4 seconds. there is no problem with the video because when i play it on my computer using windows media player, the sound and picture is perfect. how do i fix this?

Answer
Occasionally, if your internet drops out while you're in the process of Uploading a video, only part of the file will appear on the site. You may want to try the following:

1. Remove the partial video from your account.
2. Use an editing program to add some empty frames to the end of your complete video.
3. Find a secure internet connection.
4. Upload your complete video again.

Are gaming laptops good for video editing?

best laptop to use for video editing image

I'm looking into getting a new laptop, mainly for video editing. Would a gaming laptop such as a "Battalion 101 W170ER Gaming Laptop" work? Is it good for JUST gaming, or does that mean it just has high graphics? I'm not looking into any gaming, just high-end video editing.

Answer
Gaming computers usually have very high specs, and they should work great for video editing, but they're also very expensive! If you're not going to be gaming with it, it's probably overkill. Look into getting something with a powerful CPU, and at least 4GB of RAM , but without the unnecessary gingerbread and price of a computer built for gaming.

Video cards are for calculating and drawing 3D graphics. You don't need a mega good one for editing and playing videos - that is handled by the CPU.

What specifications are best for video editing on a macbook pro?

It looks like the macbook pro is the best laptop for video editing. I just want to know how big the hard drive should be, how much memory etc... Also, I use Final Cut Pro at school, but i dont have enough money to buy it for myself, so is Final Cut Express similar enough where I would be able to bring school projects home to work on with Final cut Express?

Answer
4gb of ram is adequate, as for the hard drive 500gb + if the vids are of any real size - final cut express has more than enough features for most of us, you just need to make sure you dont use any features in only in pro and then try to use in express, but it should work fine.

What is a computer that can game, but isn't a gaming computer?

Nick

Hello Everyone! I am looking for a laptop that like I said can game with ease, not much lag, but it doesn't have to be able to handle like the best graphics. I just bought a $2200 gaming PC, so I don't feel like spending all that much on a laptop, plus I need something portable for school that I can carry around easily. I also really want it to LOOK GOOD!! Sleek, thin please!
Well I have seen this in other threads, so here we go!

1. What is your budget?
About $800 at most.

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
I am thinking 13-15" maybe 17" if it is a good deal, because sometimes I do like larger laptops. I would really like it to be thinner, I don't want it to be a tank.

3. What screen resolution do you want?
As good as possible with my budget. HD is preferred, but not needed.

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Portable is preferred, nothing massive! I would like it to be thin!

5. How much battery life do you need?
About 3-4 hours would be great, more even better!

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
I want to be able to play Starcraft II, World of Warcraft, Runescape (on High of course not very taxing), Borderlands (High), Minecraft (Normal distance) and other games to come probably. When it comes to Starcraft and WoW I would like high graphics of course but it isn't needed.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Mostly playing music, watching movies and other videos, web browsing, video/photo editing.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
As much as possible with the budget. Preferably 500GB or more.

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
Anywhere that is reputable! I would like to order online.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
I plan to keep it for my years throughout Highschool.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,BluRay ROM/Writer,Etc ?
Anything is fine. I would like it to be able to write/burn DVD's though. Obviously, I want the best I can get!

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
No preference really, just a good quality laptop, that LOOKS GOOD!! I have had Apple and Asus both of which I really liked.

13. What country do you live in?
USA

I hope that covers it all. Let me know! Thanks!

Answer

How good are the Compaq Presario Laptops? Anyone who works at Best Buy and sells computers know?

Lisa Lisa

Does anyone know if they have a lot of breakdowns or defects? I want to buy a laptop at Best Buy with my Best Buy card, and I saw a Compaq Presario with a 17 inch screen, but I don't want a brand that has lots of failures or one that seems to be returned often.
Specifically it is Model: A931NR
at Best Buy- anyone have any feedback about it?

Answer
Get the model numer, and google the fool out of it for reviews. Technical, and user. I have one of the V2000 series, and its been a great lil machine. Mediocre reviews. It took a 26" drop to the floor and didn't miss a beat. Thats solid! Or lucky..... Compaqs are basicall the same as HP now. They are just one big company. Very lil diff between any of the products. On a laptop, my advice would be to get the one with the absolute best video that your pocket will allow. Thats the one area where most laptop owners suffer some regret. Any new windows laptop will likely come with Vista. So make sure you 'test drive' it before buying it. Steer clear of Celeron processors. They sell Acers there that are great.. as well as Sony. Nice but I prefer others. The AMD Turion 64s are good machines. Not total speed demons, but great at the price point.
Edit: The 931? A good solid machine. Not a lot of reviews out there yet. This is their 17" target model designed as a price point leader in big stores.

I need the name of the video editing software which can render videos exactly the same quality as the source video file. It's not Adobe Premiere, because it takes almost a day to render a video of 30 minutes in uncompressed format. Besides the rendered file requires a huge space, for example, 10 GB.
So, have any suggestions?

Answer
You don't say if you are using HD or SD video, I'll assume you are using HD...

Anything that can handle the H.264 (MPEG) CODEC.

I have tried all sorts and this seems to be the best one so far. OK, I use Premiere Pro CS5, but even in that, out of all of them, for small size against quality, the H.264 one seems to be the way to go.
You can get better ones, but at the price of very large file sizes.

If interested, links below takes you to the sites, but you can get these two programs for free. Do this by opening a web browser, surfing over to YouTube. Once there, in the search box on that site, enter 'Pinnacle Studio 14' or âSony Vegas Pro 10â. Youâre looking for free download, find a link or video that says that, in the video description, there will be link for a free download. Make sure, before you do this, to make sure your computer can meet or exceed those Specs above, and pay special attention to the AVCHD specs if you have or are going to get a HD camcorder.

A laptop running these Programs, when rendering say a 10 minute Video out, be prepared, render times could leave your laptop useless, while rendering for 4 or 5 days on that file. Besides you cannot upgrade a Laptop this way, so it unlikely these program will run on most Laptops.

What is the Best Capture Card to record xbox 360 gameplay Non HD PVR?

Bob Stanbe

And do you need to buy any extra cables? Links Please

Answer
When I think of HD PVRs, I think of a internal hard drive (self contained storage space), and no need to use a computer for RAM, frame rate, or processor speed/power. If you consider Hauppauge, Dazzle, Ezcap, Easycap, etc then will notice that they all use the processor (at least dual core), RAM, and computer (MAC or PC) internal storage space (hard drive or HDD). The only real capture card that is marketed as such is Blackmagic. The others are using the term HD-PVR as a marketing word to earn sells. If you look at all the original HD PVR's like Tivo then you will notice that it includes it owns firmware, storage space (internal hard drive - hdd), RAM (memory), etc etc and can work without connecting your computer to it. So, if you are shopping for a capture card then Dazzle, Hauppauge, and whatever else uses your computer hard drive is considered a capture card as far as I'm concerned. Just imagine your capture card as not using the internal PCI slot of the computer but rather your USB port. This is a very clever design to make a product this way to ensure it can reach cross platforms. Capture cards can only be installed on desktop PC's so to make a capture card universal the designer went the USB route because PC's, notebooks, and laptops all have a USB, but not all of them have PCI slots. ;)

So you basically need to decide on what you are trying to do in this regard. Specs are subjective to the system that you select to use. You need to narrow down which system (capture card) you want to use. Most systems require the use of allot frame rate which in turn requires lots of RAM, storage space, and at least a dual core processor. Narrow down your system by reading this article http://www.zimbio.com/Gamers+Buzz,+News+and+Tips/articles/HCAiPoanRKE/Newelectronx+bunch+scammers+Tristar+MX+HD. I found it informative before I selected my system of choice. I use a Newelectronx HD-PVR. You can see a fresh look at it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcAygrA-awY or on the Newelectronx website. It costs from $140-179 depending where you buy it from, best choice is Newelectronx.com. It can uses component, s-video, and composite cables for output and uses composite upconverting cables for input, has no hdmi connection. For like $50 you can buy a Dazzle, it won't record in HD though and recording are suspect. Plus it uses allot of frame rate which requires lots of RAM and at least a dual processor. Or a Hauppauge ($185-$220), which is a Dazzle with component inputs and records pseudo analog component HD. The Tristar MX HD-PVR comes with everything you need to start recording - cables, remote control, etc; and it's one of the easiest to use with an internal 1TB hard drive. If you want to edit your videos then any of the HD-PVRs can use any software - just about. For editing software, you might want to use your favorite search engine and see what pops up. You can see what quality videos the HD-PVR makes www dot newelectronx dot com/help.php?faq_id=214 or youtube it.
If you want to record with hdmi, look up a company called Blackmagic Design - like $180 - 220, I think.

What would be the best laptop for video editing?

laptop for simple video editing

Joe E

I know this is a very general question, but in your opinion, what would be the best laptop for under $1300 that is good for video editing (I would also use it for school work, web browsing, movies and music)?
But couldn't I get a much better quality laptop with much better components thats not a mac for cheaper?

Answer
Well, I hear a lot of good about Apple, and I am sure they are good for video editing, but Mac's are generally expensive.

If you prefer to get a PC, I know the perfect one for you. It's an HP Pavilion dv6000 (also called the "HP Pavilion Entertainment PC"). It cost me $1209 with all tax, but included a free HP all-in-one printer (scanner, etc). There are many free inclusive programs. There is this one called Cyberlink Power Producer, it is by far the best I've used yet. I made a full DVD for my friend's birthday, with content about her. It has a full DVD menu, custom background of her & me, and I chose which scene I want on each page, and the style of buttons, etc. I even have background music on the menu. It allows me to make scenes, add subtitles, add transition effects, add audio, add music, add video, pictures, etc. You can even add effects such as snowfall, water rippling, and much much more. You can capture content directly from the program, as there is a built in webcam & microphones. You can even capture content from video cameras that are attached to the comp, it automatically detects theme. I honestly love this computer, and I look forward to producing even more videos. Even if you are just doing something simple, it can do it. It can extract audio from video too. Also, you can save as many file types, depending on what you are making (DVD video, data disc, etc.)

And the laptop has 250GB hard drive, and 3GM RAM, never lags, runs smooth. Also has a fingerprint scanner, works amazingly. My HP laptop is intended for my next 5 years of university, so I do expect it to last :) And it has many free programs, I still haven't tried them all yet.

What is a reliable, easy to use video editing software?

Travis

Windows Movie Maker is constantly crashing, on both of my computers! (an older XP desktop and brand new windows 7 laptop)

I'll pay good money for a video editing software that works.

as a side note:
Is the fact my camera records in .AVI a possibility for the unstableness?

Answer

What effects or tools do you need or look for in Video Editing Software for making AMV's?
I like to make AMV's but I feel I'm missing the important things needed or used in making an AMV!!So the question is what video editing software do you use and what is needed or used?only help things!thank you!

Answer
Hi, for editting videos I recommend to buy licensed because are better than the Free. For example I installed Ubuntu Linux and I installed OpenShot from here: http://www.openshotvideo.com/ Open Shot is tottaly Free but hs not powerfull options like Adobe Premiere or Sony Movie Studio. I worked a lot with OpenShot but there are severeral times that the program closes and I lose my hours of work. So I decided to buy Adobe Premiere and Sony Movie Studio, Now I'm happy with both. Here I tell my story with each one:

Adobe Premiere Elements:
First off, I am no Spielberg, Howard, or Scorsese, I just need a good video editor that's more advanced than Windows Movie Maker. My only prior experience involves iMovie which I've used for the past five years as the need arose. I'm not the biggest fan of iMovie, not to mention I don't own a Mac (I was using a public Mac I have access to). I've recently taken on a project which requires me to edit and post video to YouTube, so being able to edit video in the comfort of my home was the driving factor in this purchase, not to mention that I didn't want to purchase another computer and/or switch platforms.

After install, which was very simple, I found PE10 to be intuitive and relatively easy to use though I'm sure if I had come into this without any video editing experience, I would have a different take. It took me about an hour to become comfortable working with it, and I'm only scratching the surface of what it can do. My typical use involves importing AVCHD files, editing the video adding transitions and titles, cutting out some extraneous scenes, adding audio and video fades, and then exporting the video. That's really about all I need at this point, nothing too fancy yet. It's handled what I throw at it easily and flawlessly and renders the 40 minute hd videos I'm creating in about an hour on the machine I'm using.

If I had it to do over, I'd probably take a harder look at Sony Vegas Movie Studio since it seems to have a ton more features (which I don't need yet). It seems to have a steeper learning curve and like I said, my needs are relatively simple right now. Plus I'd rather wait for the next version which will hopefully have 64-bit support.
You can buy Adobe Premiere here:

Sony Creative Software Movie Studio HD Platinum:
Sony Vegas is arguably the best bang for your buck video editing software on the market today. While the learning curve can be a little steep and it has some limitations, overall it's a fantastic package that hits the spot for most amateur video editing endeavors. I've tried a whole bunch of programs and this one seems to be the best value for money - especially once you take the time to learn it properly.

Sony has 4 different versions of the Vegas software suite, ranging from the low end Studio HD to the high end Pro. The HD Platinum version sits somewhere in the middle and offers most of the features that you'd require for a range of different projects. Most users won't require the features offered in the Pro version (though sometimes I wish some of them were available as paid plugins for HD Platinum).

It's got some fantastic features like automatic splitting between video and sound, quick video splitting with the press of a button, lots of effects including the ability to use a 'green screen' effect, easy sound/image fading, text effects, slow motion, credits, drag/drop clips, export to YouTube, layers, etc. It really does have most of the tools that you'll require to create some kick ass movies, quickly and efficiently. It's also got fantastic help and tutorials. Plus there are lots of YouTube tutorials too. Over all, it's a fantastic piece of software for the price which I highly recommend!

How do you install stuff on linux?

Phil

Im trying to find a Video editing software for linux that i can use to replace Pinacle Studio since it doesnt install on my OS. I havent gotten the hang of downloading/installing stuff. I save it, its in my downloads folder. Once its done i double click it, and it brings me to all of these files! I have no idea how to do this
I have ubuntu, and i remember the opening or saving deviced being called archive manager

Answer
Windows software doesn't work on Linux unless you use WINE and even then, Windows software doesn't always work at all or properly. Installing Linux compatible software depends on how the distro handles the packages. What Linux distro do you have?

EDIT: In Ubuntu, go to Applications > Software manager. You'll find tons of great free software that you can install. Also, you can download and install software from the internet that ends in .deb in Ubuntu. Similar to .exe in Windows.

Answer
Your laptop came with Windows 7. I'm sure you will like to make and edit movies too. Install Windows Live Movie Maker 2011:
http://explore.live.com/windows-live-movie-maker?os=other

WLMM 2011 will allow you to take videos using the webcam. Capture a few seconds of video of yourself and save it. Play the video and pause it. Take a snapshot and save it.

Where should I buy my computer?

paupau

I have 1000 to buy a laptop for college. I'm a English major so I don't need too much fancy stuff. I do take a lot of pictures and put them on my computer, if that means anything. I also need wifi. I'm not sure if I should get a pc or a mac, a mac would be more expensive, I understand, but I don't know if its worth it. Thank you for your help.

Answer
A mac wouldn't really be worth the extra money, based on your needs. I would suggest looking at either an ASUS or Toshiba laptop or a Lenovo Thinkpad. They all have very good build quality. Toshibas and Thinkpads are very durable while ASUS laptops have some of the highest quality hardware available.
For good prices on computers, you may want to check out Newegg.com and Tigerdirect.com

@Skylar Oh wow. Well, fanboys will be fanboys, I guess. Where to start?
Well, Macbooks do come with some simple photo and video editing software, but then, so do some Windows computers. And there are free programs for those that don't have this software. Both offer more advanced programs, but they're around ~$200 on both platforms(Final Cut Pro, Aperture, etc on Macs).
Microsoft Office Home and Student does not cost anywhere NEAR $400. You're just making stuff up, there. It costs $150 if you buy from Microsoft, and you can find it cheaper on Newegg and Tigerdirect.
PCs don't NEED virus protection, all you need is Common Sense 2011. Virus protection just means you have to be less cautious. And there are TONS of free antivirus out there. Most notably MSE and MalwareBytes free version.
I don't know where you got that "...the last time a Mac had one that wasnt installed purposly was 2006" thing from, but I know people who have had viruses on Macs. It's possible to get viruses on Macs, it's just unusual because there aren't many coded for the OS.
Many laptops come with warranties. Not sure what you're talking about there. Why are you calling Microsoft for a warranty?
Yeah, Windows PCs come with a "website builder", too. It's called a text editor. Of course, most people don't use those. They don't use Adobe Dreamweaver or whatever is on the Mac, either though. They make IDEs for these things.
"Microsoft says you need to get a new computer every 18 months to not lag." Oh wow, I have no idea where you pulled that one from, but that isn't true in the slightest. I've seen plenty of Windows machines last MUCH longer than that. In fact, I have one in my living room from '04. Still works fine.
"Add that up also. And for netbooks the life spam is 6 months". Again, no. Are you just making up numbers or something?
"Macs are used in so many schools, and by so many in college, and so many teachers for a reason." Well, yeah. They're fairly reliable and there aren't very many viruses on them. Guess what else a lot of schools use? Workstation desktops and Lenovo Thinkpads. Those run Windows.
"and they are so dependable." Yes, they are pretty dependble. Less so than ASUS, Toshiba, and the higher quality Thinkpads (X and T series, mainly), but Macs are definitely up there.
Oh, and you can't upgrade the hardware in a Mac. Personally, I view that as a problem. That's just me, though.
