I have Windows Live Movie Maker and it works okay until I start getting like more than 5 clips, then it lags really bad. So what video editing program can I download (preferably free) that fit these requirements?

1. Slow Motion
2. Black and White (and other effects)
3. fade (from video into another)
4. add music over a video
5. add text to a video

That's basically it, (I use it for music videos mainly)

If you can help, thanks, it means a lot, I appreciate it!

Answer
Free beginning and intermediate video editors for PCs are disappearing (bye-bye VideoSpin:-(. The free versions of commercial programs always watermark the best effects. Except for the "(and other effects)" on #2 above, I would have recommended Serif's Movie Plus Starter Edition. It's a great, free little program that complements Movie Maker really well but the only unmarked effects are the adjustments (color, brightness, sharpness, etc.).

If I had to have only free programs, I've use Movie Maker 6.0 (the Vista version) and Movie Plus SE. Do the basic editing and effects work with Movie Maker and then the specialty work (chroma keying, adding text, etc.) with Movie Plus. You'd have to create your own workflow (what you do first, second, third, etc.) and get used to double-saving projects as movies so you could move projects from one program to the other.

There's one freebie I haven't tried, NCH's Videopad. I don't know much about it except people who've used it have liked it. At this link, scroll down to the links to Videopad. Sometimes the "Get It Free" paragraph doesn't show up if you just go to NCH's site, so if you want to download it, use the download link on Gizmo's site.

IMPORTANT NOTE: An hour ago I installed a copy of Videopad I downloaded a couple of months ago just to try it out. Besides being an awful program and difficult to use, it installed a whole suite of NCH program trials even after I'd unchecked them all during the installation. Do not download and install Videopad unless you want to spend time uninstalling the suite it loads you with.

Other than Videopad, there are two free high-end editors: Lightworks and Zwei-Stein4, both of which have a reputation for being difficult to learn to use.

Answer
VideoPad : http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html

the free version is better than windows movie maker,
but the paid for pro just gives you more output formats.
(click on the get it now button for the free version)

it's a great little tool

while you are at NCH check out the Free PhotoStage Slideshow creator.
