What kind of video editing software can I get for less than $100 that works on a windows and I can get at Best Buy or Circut City? Something that has great graffics, sound effects, makes great music/youtube videos, is easy to use, etc. Please help.

Answer
Here are some helpful options for you.

1 - Windows Movie Maker - The best video editing tool for Windows that's absolutely free and chances are you already have it installed on your computer as part of XP SP2. Microsoft Movie Maker has all the basic video editing tools plus a good collection of transitions and video effects.

There's an in-built movie titler that lets add you styles to text titles including ticker taps, zoom and even the scroll effect. And if you are feeling lazy, just hit the AutoMovie command to have the entire video produced for you with intervention.

Answer
Photobucket is a great web based and FREE editing tools. The software behind it comes from Adobe who make some of the best commercial ($$$) photo and video editors. Also check out Jaycut which allows you to export and save your videos! If you need/want more features downloading VideoSpin, VideoPad or VideoThang are great options. Still free, but you have to download the software. For under $100 you can buy Adobe Premiere Elements.

There is also new freeware version of Windows Movie Maker that works on Windows Vista, XP and even Windows 7. Microsoft has added and deleted features from each version and this version has all the features from each version plus some extras.

Is there a free program I can download to use instead of the video editing software that came with my webcam?

I own a Microsoft Lifecam webcam and it came with it's own video editing software. After constructing the video, however, the format in which your movie automatically saves is not compatible with many websites such as YouTube and Tumblr. I have looked into and visited many different sites that allow you to change the format of your video in hope that I could change it, but with no avail. I was wondering if anybody knows of a free downloadable software that allows you to export videos to different formats no matter what their original format is. An added bonus is more video composing and editing features. It is vital that the format the software saves your creations in is necessarily compatible with most websites.

Thank you for your time and effort.

Answer
As with any video editing application, saving your work and rendering are two different things. What I mean to say is, when you save your work you are really saving it as a project form. However, if you want to produce your project in its final state, you need to render it to various suitable video formats like .mp4, .mpg, .avi to make it acceptable to various video sharing websites. Try to look for the keyword export in the menu of your video editing application.

What is a video editing software I can get for free or from Best Buy? I need it soon so nothing I have to order from the internet that will take forever and a day. I need it to be able to play clips backwards. Plus, Windows Movie Maker just is not cutting it.

Answer
Pinnale Studios one (I forget the full name) is okay for a lower priced one. I wouldn't consider it great, but its a step up over Windows Movie Maker at least. It s definitely a consumer product though.

There is then Sony Vegas. This is very popular around the consumer scene. Its a little pricey though perhaps for what you're getting. But I hear its really easy to use and pickup. I've not used it personally though, just hear people are fairly satisfied with it.

There is Adobe Premiere Pro or Premiere Elements. The Pro one is far more expensive but far more robust. Elements would be a huge step up over Windows Movie Maker for you and not nearly as costly. That might also be the easiest one to just pickup from a BestBuy or such. I've used Pro only, so can't comment to heavily about Elements. But as its just a slightly "weaker" version of Pro, I would imagine its a pretty solid application.

Cheers.

I have a pc computer and I'm looking for the best video editing software. I want somthing that can play a soundtrack in the background (without song lyrics), speed up/slow down clips, trim clips, and place clips together to make a movie. I want to make a youtube channel and I need a good editor that I can download to do that:) any suggestions???

Answer
Here's a list of some of the free ones:

Windows Movie Maker -- WMM is already installed on computers that are running Windows XP and Vista. But if you have Vista or 7, you can use the latest version:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/movie-maker-get-started

You may add 3rd party effects that don't come with the WLMM with this:
http://www.thefxarchive.com/index.php?category=WLMM_2011

VirtualDub -- may lack the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. You can take a captured clip, trim the ends, clean up some of the noise, convert it to the proper frame size, and write out a better one. Remove and replace audio tracks without touching the video. It has extensive video filter set, including blur, sharpen, emboss, smooth, 3x3 convolution, flip, resize rotate, brightness/contrast, levels, deinterlace, and threshold.

Avidemux -- a free video editor designed for simple cutting, filtering and encoding tasks. Trim, add filters and even encode video. You can remove the audio portion of a video file, or remove the video portion and retain the audio part, among others. You can even reformat and resize your videos. It's a great and effective free video editing software for those who havenât obtained much, if any, experience in video editing.
http://avidemux.sourceforge.net

Blender -- a 3D graphics video creation program which hosts a variety of features. These include modeling, animation, rendering, post-production and real-time interactive 3D, as well as game creation.
http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/

Zwei-Stein -- a great free video editing software, but the user interface is very technical. It is full featured, offering many different effects. There are up to 64 effects, which can be chained serially.
http://www.thugsatbay.com/tab/?q=zweistein

Wax -- a high performance and flexible free video editing software program, good for both home users and professionals. It can create 2D & 3D special effects and can work in two modes - as a standalone application which would appeal for home users/beginners, and as a "plug-in" to video editors/NLEs which would be more useful for professional editors.
http://www.debugmode.com/wax

VSDC Free Video Editor -- It's the only free advanced video editor with chroma key editing, and even split screen editing. With a full support for dozens of video codecs and formats including but not limiting to AVI, MP4, MKV, MPG, WMV, 3GP, FLV for video; MP3, WAV, WMA, FLAC, PCM, OGG, AAC, M4A, AMR for audio; and BMP, JPG, PNG, PSD, ICO, TIFF for images, VSDC Free Video Editor provides one of the easiest ways to combine multiple source chunks in different formats into a resulting high-quality video.

Are you familiar with those green compositing stuff that you hear in the movie editing world? This software can do that. Here's a sample of what it can do:

http://www.videosoftdev.com/free-video-editor

Note that this software is free but comes with a stupid 'Conduit Toolbar' it is trying to promote. It gets installed on your browser. You can easily remove that toolbar by going to Control Panel ⺠Uninstall a Program. select 'Conduit Toolbar' from the list of currently installed programs, and uninstall. Next, if you are using Mozilla Firefox, click the Firefox menu ⺠Add-Ons ⺠Extensions tab. Find and click on Conduit Toolbar and select Remove. Restart your browser afterwards.

What video editing software comes standard with a laptop with Windows 7?

Kevin

I'm thinking about buying a laptop with Windows 7 and not a mac but I need to know what kind of video editing software it will come with mainly because I am a video maker for YouTube.

Answer
There's Windows Live Movie Maker, not included due to the lawsuit about prepackaged programs leading to monopolies. Anyways, it's now a free download off Microsoft's website.

You can probably find better free or paid video software elsewhere on the internet for Windows.
