What's a good, downloadable video-editing software for PCs?

Does anyone know of any good video-editing software(s) for PCs? Preferably for free download. I realize this might be a little unrealistic but I'd like to know if anyone is familiar with one. I'd like to be able to trim videos, add text/images without cutting away from the actual video, and be able to add narration over video/images. I also realize that a Mac is a little more geared toward this sort of thing, but I really like my Toshiba and I'm not about to go out of my way to get a whole new laptop just for the sake of video-editing.

You may try AVS Video Editor, it's a nice video editing software that can help you edit, join, trim, crop, convert and cut video, my friends recommend it to me, it's easy to use and works pretty well for me, it embeds many special effects. I had made a video with it and the video got award, that's pretty cool. And here is the free download link
