Q. I'll be using it for school, video editing and music. I'd like to know which laptop has the best quality and longest lifetime. I've heard that laptops only last from 2 to 3 years.

Answer
17" MacBook Pro, mine kicks butt, if you are looking for a small and portable laptop, you can get a fujistu LifeBook® P1500 Notebook, its very small with an 8.9" screen and it turns into a tablet go to http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Ecommerce/PrdBridge.jsp?pclass=P1500 for more info

What would be the best laptop for video editing?

Joe E

I know this is a very general question, but in your opinion, what would be the best laptop for under $1300 that is good for video editing (I would also use it for school work, web browsing, movies and music)?
But couldn't I get a much better quality laptop with much better components thats not a mac for cheaper?

Answer
Well, I hear a lot of good about Apple, and I am sure they are good for video editing, but Mac's are generally expensive.

If you prefer to get a PC, I know the perfect one for you. It's an HP Pavilion dv6000 (also called the "HP Pavilion Entertainment PC"). It cost me $1209 with all tax, but included a free HP all-in-one printer (scanner, etc). There are many free inclusive programs. There is this one called Cyberlink Power Producer, it is by far the best I've used yet. I made a full DVD for my friend's birthday, with content about her. It has a full DVD menu, custom background of her & me, and I chose which scene I want on each page, and the style of buttons, etc. I even have background music on the menu. It allows me to make scenes, add subtitles, add transition effects, add audio, add music, add video, pictures, etc. You can even add effects such as snowfall, water rippling, and much much more. You can capture content directly from the program, as there is a built in webcam & microphones. You can even capture content from video cameras that are attached to the comp, it automatically detects theme. I honestly love this computer, and I look forward to producing even more videos. Even if you are just doing something simple, it can do it. It can extract audio from video too. Also, you can save as many file types, depending on what you are making (DVD video, data disc, etc.)

And the laptop has 250GB hard drive, and 3GM RAM, never lags, runs smooth. Also has a fingerprint scanner, works amazingly. My HP laptop is intended for my next 5 years of university, so I do expect it to last :) And it has many free programs, I still haven't tried them all yet.

Photos
Thank you guys, and I hope you can help!

Answer
any laptop today will do what your asking. so you have to decide what features you want, i am gonna recommend this one. this is light weight, has a longer battery life and is light for being a 15 inch as compared to laptops with more powerful processors and graphics cards. this will work well for what you need it for. lenovo makes quality products and has excellent customer service. if you need more help.contact me. jdbj32m@yahoo.com

What is better: A Quad Core with a Intel HD 4000 or a Dual Core with a GT 635M?

Ken

I'm currently looking at budget laptops for college. I'm considering the Lenovo Z580 line of laptops at the moment and I'm conflicted on which is a better buy: an Intel Core i7-3520M 2.9GHz with Intel HD 4000 or an Intel Core i5 3210M 2.50GHz with an nVidia GT 635M graphics card. I am planning to do some casual gaming on the machine (League of Legends, Minecraft, etc) as well as use it for video editing and music making.
The video card has 1 GB of dedicated video memory.
Also, they're around the same price, give or take 10 or so dollars.

Answer
For gaming, go for the better video card (635M). Most games use only one core, so multi core does not help gaming as much as better video cards. Make sure the 635m has dedicated video ram, not shared system ram... (otherwise they will be about the same...)
