Any good free video editing software out there?

George

I can't find any. All my friends are telling me to download a cracked version of Sony Vegas but I don't want to because it's illegal and I think it's unfair to Sony :/ So any good ones? I just want to make montages and stuff for my games. Windows movie maker seems a little basic for me, and I think the quality isn't always amazing exporting it. So any free ones? Thanks. 10 points for best one and even better if you could link a youtube video showing how it works and stuff :)

What is the best free video editing software?

Q. I'm looking for a free and easy to use video editing program, something similar to Adobe Premiere Elements or Mac's iMovie. Simple graphic interface, accepts multiple file types, doesn't crash all the time and most importantly: free software! Thanks for your input.

Answer
If you're serious about video, in the long run you'll want to invest in some quality software. Premiere for PC, Final Cut Pro for Mac.

There are a number of Open Source video editors out there that might suit your needs in the short term though.

Try the video section of this site for a good list of free video apps: http://osliving.com/archive/video/

Good luck!

I would like to start creating videos of some of my gameplay on my xbox 360. I have a Sony DV videocamera, but i need to know if there is any FREE video editing software out there? Good software. I am wanting to post these on YouTube.

Answer
Hey there,

There are a few decent options available for you, and I am assuming you are on a PC computer.

Videospin - has some cool titles/graphics, very easy & quick to use:
http://www.videospin.com

SmashMash - this is a really fun little program, which can do some cool things like animating photos etc. Good for unleashing your creativity. They also have an online video editing version along with the downloadable version: http://www.smashmash.tv

Videothang: super easy to use, bit lite on features
http://www.videothang.com

Loiloscope - this is a new video editing software I recently discovered. I haven't played with it much yet but it looks quite fun. There simple version is free:
http://loilo.tv/product/1/desc/1

Lastly, if you're up for trying something a little more complex, but has the capacity to try 150 different types of video effects including Green Screen, take a look at Zs4:
http://www.zs4.net
There are some helpful tutorials available on Youtube to help you learn how to get the best out of it.

Best of luck with all your video editing :)

Looking for free video editing software?

Charrd

I need free video editing software other than windows movie maker

Thanks

Answer
There's now quite anumber of free video editors available.

Windows Movie Maker is still one of the best because you can write your own transitions and effects for it - http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Tutorials/

Here's some free editors - http://www.akascope.com/2011/07/15/free-video-editing-software/

Here's some more...

CineFX - http://www.cinefx.org/
TrakAxPC - http://www.trakax.com/software/pc/download/
VideoPad - the free version - http://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/index.html
Lightworks - http://www.lightworksbeta.com/

Zwei-Stein is a good, but the user interface is horrible.
Wax is pretty good
Lightworks is good as is Cinefx but their website is having problems at the moment.

Also worth looking at are VirtualDub, RAD Video tools, AVITricks and Avidemux. Although not full editors like the others they have some useful tools.

What's a good free video editing software?

I'm using a Flip Ultra HD, and I'm wondering what's a good video editing software.

Answer
You'll need one capable of HD video editing. Some of the older freeware can't do that. However, this year saw the release of two very good freeware editors, both capable of HD editing (and saving).

FileLab is a freeware video editing program for just about all platforms (Mac, PC, etc...). I use it a lot to make YouTube videos. It runs in your browser using a simple plug-in download. It's also available as a free app on Facebook. It has many transition and video effects, very good title editor, and customized color correction to include brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, and gamma. This tutorial on FileLab was made with FileLab
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYbAe-mUscs

VSDC is also freeware, but has much more advanced capabilities than FileLab, such as green screen! It's not as obvious or easy to use as FileLab, but did I already mention it has green screen (chroma key), and it's free? Also, it is capable of editing in most most popular video formats and compression schemes including high definition (HD), AVI, H.264, MP4, MKV, MTS, 3GP, WMV, QT, MP3, MPEG2 FLV, SWF. YouTube. Get it now while it's free because eventually this will go payware.

Download links and more info on both, including a couple other editors here:

What is good but affordable or free video editing software for side by side videos?

water_skip

What is good but affordable or free video editing software for side by side videos? Like if I shot something with two different cameras from different angles and I want them together side by side in the same file, like that famous John Williams tribute music video. I have Windows Vista. It came with Windows Movie Maker but I couldn't figure out how to do it in there.

Answer
Movie maker is the best free movie making software,I think,,if you have a window system it always has movie maker.
But to make better slideshows you you need to pay for commercial software,it's worthy.
If you are looking for more advanced and professioanl but still user friendly software, i will recommend wondershare photo&video edting suit which can produce some genuine looking film effects doesn't take some learning.
you can get more information and sample videos on its offical site:
http://www.ourpix.com/#150

Good Luck
