Best Linux distro for me?

kevin

hey everyone... i was wondering if someone could help me pick the best Linux distro for my situation, I've basically narrowed it down to ubuntu or fedora... but I'm open to other suggestions too. The main reason why I want to install Linux on a second hard drive is because I'm taking a c++ class right now and i would like to program in the actual UNIX environment instead of using our schools remote access system. This isn't the only reason I want to use it though, I eventually want to try and replace my current OS eventually, which means that I want good media interface, like a good music player, video player, maybe even some music recording/editing software...I'm basically looking for the best all around everyday distro that also has all the bells and whistles that Linux is know for. thanks

I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 7 Main Edition which is built upon Ubuntu 9.04 Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 7 then you need to create a Bootable LiveCD for installation

Linux Mint 7 can also be run direct from the LiveCD from Booting up without touching your Hard Drive

ALSO WORTH CONSIDERING LINUX MINT 6

Video Editing Softwares?

Michael

I'm Looking for a GOOD video editing software for free that i can use on my Linux Mint laptop. I'm mainly looking for it to have things like slow/fast motion, video transition effects, and also to make a good-looking intro. I'm making some Quick-scoping Montages for my cousin, and he is currently using a Sam-sung Galaxy X 2 To film and edit.......Let's just say it looks like CRAP, so I'm going to edit it FOR him once he gets an HD PVR. If you can provide any good video editing softwares with some of those specifications, I'd be very appreciative. :D
