How to upload video from a sandisk to imovie on a macbook air that only has mac os 9?

OK so i filmed a video on my camera and i put the sandisk into my laptop to edit it and when i pull up imovie i cant click on it, and when it sometimes lets me it says no clips found. When i tried to upload it to iphoto is said time 0:00 and it is actually 2 minutes long. Please help i need to edit this video and i only have mac software os 9 and i cant download imovie 10 or 11 because my mac is too old, and no i cant get a new mac so please dont say that. Are there any free editing softwares i could use? or any solutions? thank you so much.

Too bad you did not tell us anything about the camcorder.

If you can copy the files to the Mac, then convert them to something your set-up can deal with... HandBrake from www.handbrake.fr might work if an older version is available for download/install.

I am a sophomore in college pursuing a degree in film and I have an old PC currently. It is time to get a new laptop and while I am aware that Macbook pro is a superior laptop, I don't have the money for that! Is the Macbook air a good alternative or is it not compatible for film?

but you may want to look at softwares and requirements they need to run m more so desktops or workstations, not laptops,
