JVC everio help please!?

we have a jvc everio GZ-MG330ru and I cannot figure out how to get the video off of it and onto our computer so I can edit it or just save it. The file type is not compatible. I am beyond annoyed is there any way I can make it play or am I out of luck. When I had a mac I'd just plug it in and itd be ready but on the pc we have now it never works.
where is there software for it. None came with it.

Install the software, connect to pc with usb cord. Put the camcorder in review/playback mode and download. If the files are not compatible your editing software then you will have to convert. http://www.handbrake.fr free converter.

I have the GZ-Hm50 and i want to know what are the best settings for it? I will just be taking home video and travel type video. Oh what software do you use to edit and upload video?
