Do mac laptops and computers have video editing programs?

KoolDude

Do they? And what video formats (such as avi, wmv, mpeg, etc....) do they accept.

Answer
Sure do - video editing came to Macs way before it came to Windows computers. All current consumer Macs come with Apple's iMovie application pre-installed for free, but there are plenty of other options if you want to go semi-pro or even fully pro. The next step up for many users would be Apple Final Cut Express, and many Hollywood movies these days are edited on the high end Final Cut Pro. (All these applications are Apple-branded and Mac-only - no Windows version - though of course you can export your work in plenty of formats that will play on all platforms.)

For more info on iMovie, see http://www.apple.com/imovie/ and follow the links from that page. In particular, regarding formats and compatibility, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290

If you want more info on the higher end apps, see http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/ or http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/ Apple also makes companion high-end apps that do soundtracks, video grading, digital effects etc - see the links on the left of the Final Cut Pro page. But note that that these are serious professional tools, with a considerable learning curve, and hefty price-tags, so start with iMovie! And don't overlook iDVD (also free with a new Mac), which helps you create professional-looking DVDs with animated menus, etc, just like store-bought ones.

Finally, you also have non-Apple apps that are designed to run on Macs. For one 3rd-party option, Google "Adobe Premiere".

Which computer for video editing?

I recently received a GoPro Hero. I'm trying to edit HD videos in a program called Adobe Premiere Pro. My Current computer is from 2005 and is lacking the requirements needed to run Adobe Premiere Pro. I'm only looking to spend between $300-$450. More specific, I'm looking at a laptop with an intel i5 processor and 4g of ram. An alternative laptop to that one is one with an intel i3 processor and 4g of ram. Will the i5 make a vast difference?

Answer
If you want to get really serious with your video editing, I would highly suggest a desktop as opposed to a laptop. They're generally faster and all around more customizable. A good one to look at on your budget range is something with at least a Dual core processor, 4GB of DDR3 or more of RAM, and a 500-1TB SATA HDD. As for graphics, I just got a computer specifically for video editing, and an ATI Radeon HD 4XXX series works well. This would probably be a good computer for you: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+Inspiron+Desktop+/+AMD+Athlon%26%23153%3B+II+X2+Processor+/+4GB+Memory+/+500GB+Hard+Drive/3152154.p?id=1218380515754&skuId=3152154
