video editing software better than sony vegas image

C dogg

I was wondering, what are some good video editing softwares besides sony vegas and windows movie maker? I need software with good slow mo and fast motion editing. Any ideas?
Thanks
I need them to be free by the way

Answer
If you want true editing apps, go with Premiere, Final Cut, Avid. Premiere has an entry-level app "Elements"/ Final Cut does not nor does Avid. They have Express labled apps but they are not entry-level. That is not to say you can't take the leap but it will require a lot of reading and trial and error on your part. It's worth it in the long run. If you want to be able to do whatever you can think of, you need to start moving in this direction and away from the free ones. It'll cost you in several ways but it's worth it.

Is Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 10 Suite a good editing software?

If you have not tried Suite 10, but have tried another Sony Vegas editing program please tell me about it.

If you have not tried any Sony Vegas products, please recommend a good video editing software that I can purchase.

Answer
First, let me assure you that I am not connected with Sony in any way. I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio regularly and train others in its use. With that in mind, here is my answer:

Yes Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10 is an excellent video editing software package. It is rich with many features and works exactly like the professional Sony Vegas Pro used by broadcasters and movie producers. The Pro version adds in some high-end features that most users will never need. For a comparison of the features of the different versions of Sony Vegas, see http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/moviestudiope/compare

I recommend you get the Platinum Production Suite. For $30 more you get the Sound Forge Studio Audio Editor, 1001 sound effects, a DVD training video, extra audio and video effects and more soundtracks.

Over the years Sony Vegas has been known as the most stable video editor. I have worked with for years and have never had the program crash except when trying to use a third party plug-in that wasn't properly written. I can't blame Vegas for that.

You can learn a lot about how to use Vegas Movie Studio from the built in interactive tutorials, from the free tutorials at http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro9webinar and http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/support/trainingvids.asp?prod=moviestudio. Also, there are many good Sony Vegas tutorials on YouTube.

You can download Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 10 for a free 30-day trial from http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/trials/moviestudiopp and try it before you buy.
