What is the best type of (video)camera and video editing program?

I want to make excellent videos, but I feel like my equipment is so low quality.

I want opinions on what is the best (or at least the top 5) (video)camera and video editing program today.
P.S. It is most definitely not for home videos, but for preparations for classes I'm taking in the future. And my budget status is what can be obtained within the $1000 limit. Either camera total, program total, or both camera and program total.

Depends what you want?
Motion Picture camera? News? Everyday use? Do you have half a million for the best movie camera?
Canon 7D is beautiful and $1,500 but its not really fitted yet for sound as great.

Editing Software

Final Cut Pro hands down. Avid used to be good, now antiquated.

I have been wanting to make some YouTube videos for a while now but the only video editor that i can use without paying is windows movie maker, and that's just terrible. i also have a bunch of other ones, but you have to pay for those to even make them work correctly. so does anyone know any good, completely free, No trial time, video editing software?
