HP ENVY dv7t Quad Laptop, Intel® Core⢠i7-3630QM 2.4GHz, Blu-ray Player. It has a 1.0TB hard drive and 16GB of ram.

Answer
For gaming, the graphics card counts a lot. You need the GT 650M version to make it decent at gaming. You don't need 16GB DRAM unless doing video editing.
The 1080p option is an improvement.
It would appear the best config at HP.com is:
Components
⢠Windows 8 64
⢠3rd generation Intel Core i7-3630QM Processor (2.4GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)
⢠Included 2 Year Warranty
⢠NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GT 650M Graphics with 2048MB of dedicated video memory
⢠17.3-inch diagonal Full High Definition Anti-glare LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
⢠8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
⢠750GB 5400RPM Hybrid Hard Drive
⢠NO mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache
⢠Microsoft Office Trial
⢠No additional security software
⢠50% off 6 cell + 9 cell Lithium Ion Battery
⢠Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
⢠Backlit Keyboard
⢠HP TrueVision HD Webcam with integrated dual array digital microphone
⢠Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)
$1,204.99

I don't particularly think HP is a great brand.

Macbooks are incredibly overpriced and not gaming suitable. Ignore them.

Nice Samsung at $1300

Outperforms the $1204 HP by a lot.

This MSI also looks like a nice choice:

Good price on this one:

Now, if you are choosing either the HD 4000 or GT 630 model of HP, find a better value 15.6" with a better graphics card. Lenovo Y500 on sale units at Lenovo.com are pretty good.

What the best laptop for college, and gaming?

You

My budget is $1500. The games I'd like to play on it are battlefield 3, The Sims 3, Team Fortress 2, etc. For school I would need it for video editing, graphic design, Microsoft Office, etc. I would prefer something lightweight. What would you recommend?

Answer
Acer Aspire V3-771G-9809
At $949, the Acer Aspire V3-771G-9809 has a widescreen LED-backlit 17.3-inch display with high definition 1600 x 900 resolutions and a 5400 rpm 1 TB SATA drive that is standard in laptops at this price point

Asus N56VJ-DH71
Just $9 cheaper is the Asus N56VJ-DH71 which has a smaller but more gorgeous 15.6-inch display with full HD resolution at 1920 x 1080, giving it a higher pixel density than similar resolutions at a higher screen size

Lenovo Ideapad Y580
Priced at $989, you can play just about all the highly demanding RPG and FSP games at medium to high setting

Lenovo Ideapad Y500

Costing slightly less at $999 but more abled, the Lenovo Ideapad Y500 offers a stunning full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution on a 15.6-inch screen driven by a powerful GPU in the NVidia dual SLI GeForce GT 650M with a fast 2GB GDDR5 video RAM

MSI C Series CX61 0NF-258US

Last but not least is the MSI C Series CX61 0NF-258US which at $849.72 can be considered a great value for one of the better brands in gaming laptops in the market. Weighing only 5.3 lbs, this MSI model comes with a 15.6-inch 1366 x 768 display and a 750GB SATA hard drive
