I am buying a laptop to do some video editing. I use Adobe After Effects and Sony Vegas Pro at the moment. I was thinking of getting a laptop with 8 gb RAM, core i7 and 500 gb hard drive. For the graphics card, I was thinking Nvidia Geforce 635M or 610M. Can you please give some suggestions for the specs, especially the graphics card. Is this graphics card good enough? Thank you, I really appreciate it. My budget is $850-900. Thanks again
Also, does it matter if the RPM of the hard drive is 5400 or 7200? And the best screen resolution i can find is 1366 by 768, is this good enough? thanks!

What is the advantage of a better graphics card?

I am deciding between two laptops with different graphics cards: the ATI Mobility Radeon 5470 and the ATI Mobility Radeon 5650. The 5650 is a better card with more memory, but what does that mean? Will I get better graphics for games, faster video converting/encoding/editing, faster loading of HD web videos, faster live streaming, faster all-round performance?

By the way, the laptops are identical (i.e. processor, RAM is same) except for the graphics card

Answer
Not necessarily. a better graphic card will give you better performance when you using 3D and some 2D software, it also handles video as well. Your videos will perform better, smoother for example. but quality shouldn't be changed much since they all show the same but its how fast they can handle video.

Converting would be handled mainly by your processor, since its converting it, rather than outputting it to your screen. Streaming is handled by your internet, so that how fast your computer can receive the file, so a graphics card doesn't play a part in that.

You should expect better performance & quality with games since the items of the game are created and handled by the graphics card. All round performance, marginal, but i wouldn't say a lot, since using your operating system is using mainly the CPU, Hard Drive and Memory. The graphic card will handle everything that is outputted to your screen.
