What is the best basic video editing software out there for FREE for Windows 7/8?

Q. So I currently have a Windows 7 (Toshiba). I am in the process of upgrading to a Windows 8 (Sony Vaio) and am trying to decide what programs to install on it. I need a good video editing software with the following features:

- FREE
-vWindows 8 compatible (although I would assume that anything compatible with Win 7 is fine with Win 8, yes?)
- Simple to use
- DVD writable
- Export/save to any format
- YouTube compatible
- Subtitles/captions/credits/ect.
- Audio overdubbing

I'm sure there is more that I would like, but I am still new to the process of finding a good software to use. Basically, I'd like something that will do nearly everything, but I don't need anything complicated as I will not be using this to edit movies or anything of the sort. Just professional YouTube videos and DVDs for work. So something user-friendly is preferred.

Thank you very much. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
From the freeware listed in the following article, recommend that you consider FileLab based on your listed requirements. FileLab seems to fit most if not all of them:

To overdub audio, click on "Add Overlay" and select your audio file for dubbing.

As for DVD writing of your final edited video, recommend either of the following two freeware video converter programs listed in this article:

By the way, of the two listed converter programs, Freemake has a nice simple editor and automatic upload to YouTube (if desired). I personally use it quite a bit.
